Update on my dog

Hindsight Man

So a little while ago I started a thread about thinking of getting a dog.Well I went through with it and adopted a medium sized staffy mix. She's quite an energetic little bug,but very sweet with me and my mum.She is quite reactive to other dogs (especially cats) however,so I'm gonna need to get some lessons in manners. It's been a couple of weeks now and she's settling in nicely, resting under my desk as i type this :).She did have some dietary issues however and I had to take her to the vet to get her checked out.He prescribed some antihistamines and a change in her died, which will hopefully help with her irritated skin and her gassiness (i need a gas mask in here).Other than that Nissa is very playful and quite polite,at least for a shelter rescue.Anyway, that was just a quick update, thanks for all the previous advice you guys. ;)

Great! Good luck with your new puppy, and share picture with us when you'll be able to. ;)

Also, maybe you were already told all of this, but just in case, since you didn't mention, that you better do a deworming to your dog (Drontal Plus appears to be the safest), also probably a course of probiotics along with the diet. Also, are you planning to feed your doggie raw? May solve and prevents various skin and GI tract problems. For example, if the skin "stinks" and there is gas, it is a sure sign of candida. Proper natural diet can solve it.

Congrats on your new little one Hindsight Man! If you're not already listening, there are a lot of tips on the Pet Health segment of the Health and Wellness show. Here are the podcasts that you can download: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/sottradionetwork/podcast

Yeah I've taken her to the vet and he prescribed some pills for her rash and we talked about the diet. She's on a plain one right now (rice and boiled chicken) for a week or so,which should hopefully calm her belly down a bit. Also, she's a 4 year old shelter rescue, not a puppy lol.I'm gonna get her some training so she can get along with other dog better, right now she's a bit wild, but that could just be due to being at the shelter for 6 months, that kind of environment takes a toll on dogs.I was told that she got along with them really well on her arrival, but by the time I went to pick her up they had to take her around the back because she got way to excited to be around them. And yeah,I'll try to upload a picture in the next couple of days :)

Just a note that rice should be avoided as it contains way to many carbs which will favor the yeast overgrowth. In fact all complex carbs are not part of species appropriate diet for dogs. If she is a shelter dog she was likely feed cheap stuff so it may take some time for body to get rid of the toxins, you will see the full result in couple of months after you start feeding appropriate diet. To speed up detoxification I would recommend milk thistle extract ( in form of capsules or tincture, see what you find and I will advise a correct dose). Also supplementing good qualiy ( cold distilled) omega 3 acids is a must.
Good luck
