Bariloche trembled and the sky was illuminated after meteorite fall​


Last night around 00:35 the sky of the city was illuminated for a few seconds and in many areas rumbles and vibrations were felt by the fall of a "bolide". It was seen over the Nahuel Huapi Lake.

A listener of El Cordillerano Radio (93.7) sent a video where the event can be perfectly appreciated. In the social networks, videos also began to circulate commenting on different possibilities: the fall of an asteroid, a meteorite or space debris.

In his official page Astropatagonia. Astroturismo en Bariloche on Facebook, Daniel Chiesa shared another record citing that it was the fall of a fireball at 00h,33m,05s. with north direction.

Well I would like to clarify this news, at the time it seemed strange to me, as I mentioned, I was very immersed in the work I was doing on the iconography of Icarus and when I rested to look at a round of news I was surprised by the coincidence with the subject and place. I usually look at this Russian source that I link that seems reliable, but yes, contrasting with another source, which I usually do, would have clarified and expanded this information better.
As far as I could find out, there is only one photographic source and the image appeared in July 2024 in the island of Icaria in Greece,. And as is “normal” with this type of subject there are all kinds of reproductions,pareidolia, digital retouching, edits, Marian or Blue bean speculations, which at this point is to be expected given the amount of high strangeness we are now seeing.

In my opinion I think they are lights produced by chemical elements, or under earth gases that are called Earthquake Light, together with all this activity in the form of dust or condensation clouds that remains in the atmosphere and that now after six months have to do with tectonic events that are occurring in Greece.
Earthquake lights (EQL) are an unusual luminous aerial phenomenon, similar in appearance to an aurora borealis, that appear in the sky above or near areas of tectonic stress, seismic activity or volcanic eruptions. They are especially visible at night.
According to researchers at Rutgers University in the United States, these flashes of light occur because landslides near the Earth's geological faults may generate an electrical charge.
Although rocks are insulators, it has been shown in laboratory experiments that they are good conductors of electricity on their surface. This phenomenon was discovered by the mineralogist physicist Friedemann Freund. He realized that the mineral grains in rocks are full of imperfections, because they have oxygen atoms in imperfectly ionized states, which led to the formation of so-called electron holes, which carry a charge similar to that of an electron, but opposite, i.e., not negative, but positive.

Perhaps the story of Icarus and his melting wings is a (technological) reflection of the fall on an island to be explored and the presence of the Sun is all this plasma and psychic activity that we have seen, that overwhelms and surprises us? is evidence that we are getting closer and closer to change.

Here's is something interesting from Russia from the end of last year that proves an already established connection between meteorites and noctilucent clouds. But not only. It also shows changes in the upper atmosphere.

The mystery of winter silver clouds that appeared over Siberia and the Far East on December 17-18, 2024 has been revealed!

A month ago, silvery clouds (AstroAlert | Наблюдательная астрономия) suddenly appeared in the Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk and Magadan regions - a purely summer phenomenon in the upper atmosphere.

At that time there were several hypotheses about the nature of this phenomenon. The main version was a man-made cause: a rocket launch. But a very large distance between the regions where it was possible to observe this phenomenon and identified anomalies in the upper atmosphere indicated that these clouds of natural origin!

In fact, this is the first documented observation of silvery clouds in winter in the history of astronomy!

2 weeks prior to this, the meteoroid-asteroid 2024 XA1 (C0WEPC5) fell in Yakutia, and 3 days before the clouds appeared, the most powerful peak of Geminid meteor shower activity in the last 10 years occurred. It is possible that this also had some effect, but the main contribution was made by the dynamics of the Earth's atmosphere itself.

The mystery of winter silvery clouds was revealed by Oleg Stanislavovich Ugolnikov (Олег Угольников) (Institute for Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences) in his paper, which he published 3 days ago in arxiv.org. (Winter Noctilucent Clouds Following Sudden Stratospheric Warming: First Observations)

Following is a short excerpt from the author of the paper:

“The silvery clouds that suddenly appeared in the Siberian sky in winter on December 17-18, 2024 were not man-made. They were the most real silver clouds of natural origin, which, as in summer, appeared in the mesosphere, only slightly lower, and consisted of ice crystals. These may be the first winter silver clouds in the history of observations.

This may surprise you, and at first I didn't believe it myself. After all, it is known that the mesosphere is much warmer in winter than in summer, and under normal conditions the ice there would immediately evaporate. But there is a process by which the winter mesosphere, as well as other layers of the middle atmosphere, abruptly ceases to be “normal”. This process is known and described since the middle of XX century, but earlier it did not acquire such scales that it came to ice freezing.

And everything starts significantly lower - in the stratosphere, where it begins to suddenly ... warming. This process is so called - “sudden stratospheric warming” (in English-language literature it is denoted by the abbreviation SSW - sudden stratospheric warming). In this case, planetary waves destroy or shift aside the cold polar stratospheric vortex formed in winter over the pole. It is in this vortex that another type of high clouds - nacreous clouds - form, and in it that “ozone holes” also occur.

According to the EOS Aura satellite, after December 10, during the week of the “sky show”, the cold cyclone began to shift to the western hemisphere, and over winter Eurasia at an altitude of 45 km, the temperature began to rise and at one point reached 300 K, that is, +27 Celsius!

Such events change the conditions of wave propagation and the pattern of air movement in higher layers as well. In the mesosphere, the usual movement from the equator to the pole and further from top to bottom, which provides it with high temperatures, changes to the opposite - upwards and further towards the equator. This is exactly what happens in summer, generating adiabatic cooling and - as a result - silvery clouds. Here, the “cold mesospheric summer” came to Siberia for a few days in winter.

All of this has been observed many times, but usually temperatures in the mesosphere dropped to 180-200 K, which is certainly cold, but not cold enough to freeze ice. In December 2024, it seems that an extreme event occurred - average temperatures at an altitude of about 70 km over central Siberia fell to 165K, and in some narrow minima associated with wave propagation - to 150-155K, “reaching” the threshold of ice freezing. It remains only to add that this is almost 70 degrees below the norm for this season, latitude and altitude!”!

“Full clarity emerged when we were able to determine the height of the clouds using the “shadow” methodology - and it also amounted to 70 km, coinciding with the height of the temperature minimum. This result became possible thanks to eyewitnesses of the event, who responded to the request to send original photos. Their authors are thanked in a paper on the phenomenon, the preprint of which can be viewed here: Winter Noctilucent Clouds Following Sudden Stratospheric Warming: First Observations . The figure below (in post one) shows the distribution of temperatures over the observation area in December, the author of the photo of clouds is Lyubov Yakovleva.

What's next? It's hard to say. Most likely, this very rare phenomenon will remain as rare. And it occurs only in winter, so silver clouds will not become all-season. If it ever happens again - we can start thinking about what it might be related to. What we can be sure of is that the observers of this new type of high clouds in the atmosphere are very lucky. I wish I had witnessed it myself - I was too far away.”

Yes, it’s been crazy foggy here this past week. Furthermore I slept in my underwear right in front of the open window two nights ago. It was in the 80s on Wednesday. The fog is normal this time of year, but the heat not so much. It’s supposed to start raining any minute, and for the next week or so, which is also a return to normal.

Meanwhile we’re officially on pip-watch 2025 in the local mountains!

Glad you’re enjoying it! Sadly last year none of the eggs showed any signs of life, and she finally gave up. It was a rough winter that saw her stay on the nest for 63 days of blizzard conditions. It was a valiant effort but unfortunately unsuccessful. We were all really disappointed.

But this year, we are officially on pip watch: we’ve got our first cracks!!

More than six inches of snow paired with 60-plus mph winds left impassable roads, more than 100 cars stuck in ditches and drifts, and a mess for area first responders and road departments to work through.

“It’s been busy,” said Webster County Emergency Management Coordinator Dylan Hagen.

Hagen spent most of Wednesday morning checking on stranded motorists in the county’s side-by-side Polaris Ranger.

“I just finished checking on vehicles up by MidAmerican on First Avenue South,” said Hagen. “There’s four vehicles stuck up there and even more stuck in ditches and drifts throughout the county. When local officials ask you to stay home, there’s a reason for that. Please heed the warnings and listen.”

Hagen said it wasn’t just cars that were stuck throughout the county. There were reports of jackknifed semis stuck on the Kalo hill and on the hill between Dayton and Stratford on Iowa Highway 175.

“The plows are out as workers are able to get into their local shops,” said Hagen. “But opening the roads is difficult because they’re drifting shut as quickly as they’re opened.”

Webster County Chief Deputy Derek Christie turned vehicles around on the Iowa Highway 175 hill outside of Dayton for hours Wednesday after a semi jackknifed halfway down the hill.

“If you can stay home, please do,” said Christie. “Right now there are around 50 vehicles stuck in dutches and in drifts and at least two big county plows and a maintainer that are stuck. As soon as they’re pulled out, they’ll get back to work.”

According to Christie, there continued to be multiple impassible roads both in Fort Dodge and in the county.

“Plows are getting out as they’re able and will be pulled at dark because of visibility,” said Christie. “If the winds pick up again, they’ll drift back in and deteriorate. We’re going to keep going as long as we can.”

City of Fort Dodge plows fought the winds and snow as well. Fort Dodge Public Works Director Brett Daniel said the city had 10 plows, four loaders, and a grader going throughout the day to clear emergency routes.

There were impassable areas on the outskirts of town, specifically 32nd Street by WalMart and First Avenue South by MidAmerican Energy. Daniel said those areas were more difficult to plow because of stranded vehicles that then required tow trucks.

According to Daniel, city plows continued to focus on clearing emergency routes, but were able to break off and get some residential areas plowed.

“We’re going to try to get at least one pass through in residential areas before the core crew heads home for the night,” said Daniel. “Then in the morning we’ll come back and start all over again.”

First response agencies weren’t just fighting snow and wind throughout the blizzard, they were also fighting power outages. More than 9,000 customers in Fort Dodge were without power Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. By noon Wednesday, 5,078 residents were awaiting power and by 4 p.m.. 1,580 residents were still without power.

Three operations staff members were at the airport clearing snow all day. Chambers said she didn’t know if the airport would be open for flights on Thursday.

While agencies continue clearing snow from Tuesday’s blizzard, the National Weather Service has forecast another four-to-six-inches of snow for Webster County beginning later today.

“So many people are out working in this,” said Christie. “EMS, fire departments, law enforcement, hospital staff, there are so many people helping others in adverse conditions and I just want to say thank you to every single one. And then we get to do it all over again on Thursday and Friday.”

Forecast data continues to support higher confidence in heavier snowfall totals across the northwest Panhandles, likely 4-6 inches. However, latest trends have begun hinting the potential for an additional heavy snow band to take shape across the central to eastern Panhandles. There's lower confidence in this scenario, but snow totals could exceed 5 inches if it develops.
