I keep several bottles of liquid iodine on hand, mostly for infections, but it would work if our water was somehow contaminated. Our bodies need iodine anyway, so I would use it for long term water storage if necessary.
We have great well water, over 500 ft down into an aquifer in the mountains, so we just store water as it comes out of the pump. We fill 1 gallon glass jars that originally contained organic apple juice, and stick them under sink so they don't freeze.
