Weird Sensation, Has Anyone Experienced This?

Cat

The Force is Strong With This One
I just thought I would throw this out there, to see if anyone has experienced this very odd sensation I experienced a few nights ago.

Laying in bed, I felt this rocking sensation. It wasn't side to side but more of a playground teeter-totter effect from head to toe. It went on for quite sometime, not a passing moment. Never felt that before, searched my grey matter if I did anything during the day odd or experienced anything during the day that was odd to produce this feeling. It hasn't happened since.

Any takers to help me figure this out? Very strange indeed.

Hey Cat,

Without knowing exactly what you experienced it sounds as if you may have had a slight case of vertigo. If that is the case you could try reaching out and touching something solid with your hand like a wall or your headboard. Were there any other accompanying symptoms you noticed?

I've experienced vertigo before some in my teens and few times when I was older but it never made me sick to my stomach or anything so maybe my experiences weren't extreme relative to some other accounts I've read on the internet.

It wasn't side to side but more of a playground teeter-totter effect from head to toe.
This is interesting. I thought vertigo was usually constrained to a sensation within your head.

OK, thank you for the feedback. I know what vertigo is and this wasn't it. This was strange, a total body rocking sensation from head to toe, I wasn't dizzy or lightheaded. Very odd.

I think i had something similar once or twice. Like transverse waves of energy penetrating my body from toes to head. The frequency was around 1 "hill" per second. It felt like one of those hypothetical subtle bodies was displaced or perhaps deformed by the flow of these waves. Definitely not a vertigo and not the common feeling of floating around in your bed.

In general, such weird sensations tend to occur much more often when i'm in a state of mental stress. I've learnt not to pay too much attention to them.

Probably related to your diet.

I was thinking the same thing. B12 deficiency can lead to all sorts of abnormal body sensations. Lacking the proper fats in the diet (saturates from animal sources) can also affect the nervous system by failing to maintain the myelin sheath on the nerve cells. Cholesterol deficiency can have a similar effect. The first place I would look for answers would be diet.

A) at the risk of sounding odd, have you been swimming lately? Specifically in the ocean? I struggle with vertigo and motion sickness and swimming in the ocean always sets it off. I know you said it wasn't vertigo but as I was reading your post-the sensation you described reminded me of the feeling I get from the ocean.
B) if not, then I'm inclined to agree that it's most likely diet related. What did you eat that day? And have you had any reoccurrences?
