Weathercock...

some good old piece of Jethro Tull..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h52njcxZptc

and here the text for those who want to join in singing :) :

Good morning Weathercock: How did you fare last night?
Did the cold wind bite you, did you face up to the fright
When the leaves spin from October
and whip around your tail?
Did you shake from the blast, did you shiver through the gale?

Give us direction; the best of goodwill ---
Put us in touch with fair winds.
Sing to us softly, hum evening's song ---
Tell us what the blacksmith has done for you.

Do you simply reflect changes in the patterns of the sky,
Or is it true to say the weather heeds the twinkle in your eye?
Do you fight the rush of winter; do you hold snowflakes at bay?
Do you lift the dawn sun from the fields and help him on his way?

Good morning Weathercock: make this day bright.
Put us in touch with your fair winds.
Sing to us softly, hum evening's song.
Point the way to better days we can share with you.

Thanks, ines, for sharing the link. I love Jethro Tull. :) Ian Anderson is awesome. A whole bunch of other Jethro Tull videos came up, but I'm getting offline, so I'll watch some more some other time.

Thanks for the link. My daughter was telling me she likes Rihanna. I checked out her music and her singular achievement is to be totally devoid of originality. I don't know how Rihanna does it! :O And then - the perfect antidote - I came across your link to Weathercock. Real original music by a real musician. After listening to Weathercock I listened to 'Songs from the Wood' by Jethro Tull which is simply electrifying!

Edit:

I had to add this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlE2DjOX2FE&feature=fvwrel

Ian Anderson performing 'Wondering Aloud' with a string quartet and piano in 2001. Absolutely lovely!

And this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE8YLPHZImw

Anderson performing Life's a Long Song with the same musicians and a drummer.

STOP THE CAVALRY - JONA LEWIE

Hey, Mr. Churchill comes over here
To say we're doing splendidly.
But it's very cold out here in the snow
Marching to and from the enemy.
Oh I say it's tough, I have had enough,
Can you stop the cavalry?

I have had to fight almost every night,
Down throughout these centuries.
That is when I say, oh yes yet again,
Can you stop the cavalry?

Mary Bradley waits at home,
In the nuclear fallout zone.
Wish I could be dancing now,
In the arms of the girl I love.

Dub-i-dub-i-dum-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dum-dum-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dum-dum-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Wish I was at home for Christmas.

Bang goes another bomb on another town
While the Czar and Jim have tea.
If I get home, live to tell the tale,
I'll run for all presidencies.
If I get elected I'll stop
I will stop the cavalry.

Dub-i-dub-i-dum-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dum-dum-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dum-dum-dub-i-dum
Dub-i-dub-i-dum
Wish I was at home for Christmas.

Wish I could be dancing now,
In the arms of the girl I love.
Mary Bradley waits at home,
She's been waiting two years long.

Wish I was at home for Christmas.

''You Said Something'' / P. J. Harvey
---------------------------------------

On a rooftop in Brooklyn
One in the morning
Watching the lights flash
In Manhattan
I see five bridges
The empire state building
And you said something
That I've never forgotten

We lean against railings
Describing the colours
And the smells of our homelands
Acting like lovers
How did we get here?
To this point of living?
I held my breath
And you said something

And I am doing nothing wrong
Riding in your car
Your radio playing
We sing up to the eighth floor
A rooftop, in Manhattan
One in the morning
When you said something
That I've never forgotten
When you said something
That was really important

I'm not a fan of hardrock but this one is good.
the video is also very interesting. It has something of a messianic touch.

Disturbed - Land of Confusion

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching of feet
Moving into the street

Now did you read the news today?
They say the danger's gone away
But I can see the fires still alight
Burning into the night

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

Ah Ah Ah Ah

This is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the hands we're given
(ohh oh)
Use them and let's start trying
(ohh ohh oh)
To make it a place worth living in

Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, these men of power
Are losing control by the hour

And this is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion

Ah Ah Ah Ah

This is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the hands we're given
(Ohh oh)
Use them and let's start trying
(ohh ohh oh)
To make it a place worth living in

I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright
All through the night
In the wake of this madness
As I held you tight
So long ago

(sha sha)
I won't be coming home tonight
(sha sha)
My generation will put it right
(sha sha)
We're not just making promises
(sha sha)
That we know we'll never keep
Ah

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?

Ah Ah Ah Ah

Now, this is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the hands we're given
(ohh oh)
Use them and let's start trying
(ohh ohh oh)
To make it a place worth fighting for

This is the world we live in
(ohh ohh oh)
And these are the names we're given
(ohh oh)
Stand up and let's start showing
(ohh ohh oh)
Just where our lives are going to

"Death By Chocolate" / Sia
_________________________

Death by chocolate is myth
This I know because I lived
I've been around for broken hearts and how
Lay your head in my hands little girl
This is only right now

Death by crying doesn't exist, though
The headaches feel a bit like it
You might explode
But you reach the end of the road
And you, little tree
I'm certain you will grow

Tears on your pillow will dry and you will learn
Just how to love again
Oh my weeping willow
Let your leaves fall and return
Oh darling the seasons are your friend

Death by anger this is true
Just let him go he can't hurt you
Oh little girl this is such a cruel cruel world
This is the first, of a million broken hearts

Tears on your pillow will dry and you will learn
Just how to love again
Oh my weeping willow
Let your leaves fall and return
Oh darling the seasons are your friend

Oh it won't be long you will grow strong
Up up and away

He's but a falling leaf
