This is beautiful Saami music: Máddji - "Dawn Light"

While listening to this, it is almost impossible to not imagine the cold snowy landscapes of the Saami areas in northern Scandinavia.

beautiful indeed, thanks for sharing. the way of singing reminds of that of Mari Boine a bit, but is more delicate and ethereal.

speaking of ethnic music (and Mongols ;-)), some time ago i've become fascinated with some mongolian folk songs, especially those from Altai region, featuring a specific way of throat singing called "kai". in large part this traditional music sounds like a cultural heritage of Mongolian Empire (ie. warriors' songs) but some of it is truly mystic. here are some recordings by Altai Kai ensemble (webpage):

and here is one of the most beautiful melodies i've heard (instrumental):

"Seek an everlasting life through this Hell for what its worth."
Some very good Hip-Hop.

Visual Drone 12 by Boards of Canada. :D

excellent ambient by the arguable regents of 90's analog. Oh, and of course, more Emmanuel Gottsching

ayla by the maccabees. i love that song, it's very catchy and strangely addictive. i listened about 10 times in a row the other day, never get tired of it. :)

Thank you. :flowers: Indeed it has the "sound" of a cold Lapp-scape, but how much of that is association and how much is conveyed by the sound itself which is a mystery separate from sight...

Four-Calendar Café is Cocteau Twins's 1993 album and contains an internal language of forms. BlueBeard is especially enjoyable. Just over a minute into the song, Ms. Fraser opens up, adding an internal language to the blend, intensifying the waves of feeling for me.
