Yup, a similar style as Planet X for sure. I've been a fan of Planet X since high school, particularly their drummer, Virgil Donati, who I think is one of the greatest drummers in history. The song you shared is an excellent example of why I feel that way, especially the part from 4:26 to 5:34. "Quantum" is such an outstanding record - highly recommended. Glad to know other forum members are familiar with them, too. :)

I have to agree that Virgil is one of the best drummers for sure, and he's an Aussie :)

Same here. Danny Carey and Tool are legendary. What I find so interesting about him is that he studied Indian tabla hand-drumming under a master and then took those complex traditional Indian rhythms and patterns and began to apply them to the drumset, which is a major factor in his unique style.
