What are you listening to?

"I suffered so much as a child from being a fat boy that I really didn't want to show it. What happens is that you learn not to look like it. […]. Today, I even seem extroverted, but there is a great load of insecurity that comes to me from my childhood. There are many people who think, because of their suffering, that despite hunger, they have managed to do great things with their lives... But it is quite the opposite! It is thanks to hunger that we manage to be great. If hunger does not destroy you. It must always be kept in mind. Especially when you think of those who are suffering now. If you know what it's like to be hungry, you understand other people's suffering. Those tears from my mother because she didn't have anything to eat were the strongest motivation for me. When I grew up and started making money, I said to myself, "Now what? What motivation? "So I decided to be a musician of truth. The motivation was no longer an empty stomach, something that quickly filled up. It was to try to satisfy your mind with art, to reach a spiritual fullness, something already much more difficult. And I went on like this. »

I'm listening to some Glen Campbell, Wichita Lineman and others. I heard it recently in a flashback scene in the series Ozark. I remember the song in my real life. It was not a happy period in my life, but somehow the songs from that time (late 1960s) bring back a lot of joy.

Jim Reeves live in the 1950's. It makes me want to slip on some cowboy boots, saddle up a trusty steed, and ride out west following the setting sun ( and being called 'pilgrim' by John Wayne would be absolutely fine by me :-D ).

From the same decade I think this guy maybe had a valid point  -

Julie Andry's cover of Agnes Obel's 'Falling, Catching':

It has an autumn feel to it.

I found it while listening to a live version by Agnes Obel here:

Lyrics
There are those who think that life
Has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors
To direct our aimless dance
A planet of playthings

We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign
Blame is better to give than receive

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will

There are those who think that
They've been dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them
They weren't born in Lotus-Land

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt
That's far too fleet

You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose free will
