Awoke with this playing in my head. My dad was an astrophysicist, so Tom Lehrer was his jam in his bright college days. In the live version of this song, he introduces it by way of a brief monologue in which he makes the observation that “the army carried the American democratic ideal to its logical conclusion in the sense that not only do they prohibit discrimination on the grounds of race, creed, and color, but also on the grounds of ability“. And this 70 years before DEI was even an acronym. If he only knew!
