Two absolutely prime rock n' roll bluesy bangers from the masters of all things heavy, Led Zeppelin! When I get my chromatic harmonica later this week I wanna play along to "Bring it on Home" for sure! Both these tracks are from the famed "Brown Bomber" record from 1969, Led Zep 2. They took the bluesy psychedelic rock of Jimi Hendrix and Cream and turned it all up a few notches. There's a real controlled aggression in the playing. And a superb rhythm section. Never fails to impress me.
I've just found this old live recording of Zeppelin's early classic, "Dazed and Confused". This captures four talented individuals locking in together as a unit for explosive results. Jimmy Page is a fabulous guitarist and sonic architect. Singer Robert Plant is just 20 years old here, he sounds as old and whisky-soaked as the old Blues greats he was seeking to emulate. They were a fantastic live band.
One last Zeppelin live cut, a ferocious tear through of Trampled Underfoot. Heavily inspired by Stevie Wonder's Superstition, combined with a nod to the old legend Robert Johnson's Terraplane Blues.
