What are you listening to?

On any given day I will listen to whatever mood dictates from my fairly large all genre music collection.
Right now I am enamoured with the last single from “TV on the Radio" - “Province"
(featuring David Bowie).
I am still looking forward to hearing the whole album. “TVOTR" has quite eclectic style and sounds. I do not know them so well but I love this song - gorgeous lyrics.

I not so crazy about the video and not quite certain what it is all about with the female soldier being shot by the animals in the forrest and propped back up over and over , but it can be viewed here with the full lyrics
TV on the Radio - Province

Province

Suddenly, all your history's ablaze
Try to breath, as the world desintegrates
Just like autumn leaves, we're in for change
Holding tenderly to what remains

And all your memories, are as precious as gold
And all the honey, and the fire which you stole
Have you running through all your red-cheeked days
Shaking loose these souls, from their sacred hiding space

Hold your heart courageously as we walk into this dark place
Stand, steadfast erect and see that love is the province of the brave

Pushed under this expanse of bursting stars
Let this burning brightly illumintate the where we are
In this hollow that lovers' voices occupy
Let it follow that we let it free, let it fly
Breaking open the walls of this cage
Intoxicated, oh so amazed
Much like falcons tumbling from the heights at play
Conjoined, talons engaged
Hold these hearts courageously as we walk into this dark place
Stand, steadfast beside me and see that love is the province of the brave.

Today's spin...
An old favourite...
Known as their most “normal" , mr.bungle’s final album “California" is still difficult for many people who do not like a roller coaster, acid jazz, grind core sound, (although styles on the disc are fairly well varied).

I have always found the lyrics challenging and fascinating.
I like to spin this disc whenever life moves too slowly and the blues begin to turn black.
Blows out the cogs and makes the cats dance.

track 2:
"None Of Them Knew They Were Robots"
by Mr. Bungle
album: California (1999)Copyright: Beat Me Up Lord Music

Mendel's machines replicate in the night
In the black iron prison of St. Augustine's light
He's paying the bills and they're doing him proud
They can float their burnt offerings on assembler clouds

With omega point in the sight
The new Franklins fly their kites
And the post modern empire is ended tonight

From history
The flood of counterfeits released
The black cloud
Reductionism and the beast
Automatons gather all the pieces
So the world may be increased
In simulation jubilation
For the deceased...

Spray-on clothes and diamond jaws
Wrinkles smoothed by nanoclaws

With my machines I can dispatch you
From this world without a trace
Our nostalgia ghosts are ready to take your place

Content-shifting shopping malls
Gasoline trees and walk-through walls

None of them knew...

I feel the gray goo boiling my blood
As I watch the dead rise up out of the earth
Try to hide from the lies as they all come true

Deus absconditus
Deus nullus deus nisi deus

I feel the grey goo boiling my blood
As the fenris wolf slowly bites through his chain
Try to hide the myth as it becomes a man

None of them knew they were robots

Buying an X or an O
In state craft tic tac toe
Cats game for Joe Blow

Post industrial bliss
A binary hug or kiss
Can be wrung from utility mist

They stole the great arcanum
The secret fire
Moloch found his gold
For the new empire
Once again
The necrophage becomes saint

Lindy hop around the truth
Jump back wolf pack attack
Slap back white shark attack
Swingin' up there in the noose
Jump back wolf pack attack
Slap back white shark attack

Phased array diffraction nets
From full-wall paint-on TV sets
Migratory home sublets
And time shared diamond fiber sets

Recombinant logos keys
Bitic Qabalistic trees

I feel the grey goo boiling my blood
As leviathan and his bugs freeze the sea
Try to save the world by immolating myself

From history
The flood of counterfeits released
The black cloud
The resurrection of the deceased
Automotons gather all the pieces
So the world may be increased
In simulation jubilation
For the builders
Of the body of the beast

track 9:
"Vanity Fair"
by Mr. Bungle
album: California (1999) Copyright: Beat Me Up Lord Music

You're not human
You're a miracle
A preacher with an animal's face

In your sexy
Neon smokescreen
Lie the supersalesmen of vanity

Even your shadow worships you
In your jungle solitude

With the orgies of the sacrament
And the seal of flagellants

God saves those who save their skin
From the bondage that we're in

I'm elated
I could cut you
And remove the sheath of your ignorance

Bless the eunuch
And the skoptsi
Will you hurt me now and make a million?

Say cheese, baby
We all love you
But it's a cheap world and you don't exist...

Slit the fabric of the right now
Spread your legs and wear the crown

Tell me how long, lord, how long?
Till I get my beauty sleep?

Now the hourglass is empty
The moment of my de sex-ing

Cut it
Cut it
Cut this cancer from my soul

Now that I've made it...

I'm finally naked...

ALANIS MORISSETTE LYRICS

"Precious Illusions"

You'll rescue me right?
In the exact same way they never did..
I'll be happy right?
When your healing powers kick in

You'll complete me right?
Then my life can finally begin
I'll be worthy right?
Only when you realize the gem I am?

But this won't work now the way it once did
And I won't keep it up even though I would love to
Once I know who I'm not then I'll know who I am
But I know I won't keep on playing the victim

These precious illusions in my head did not let me down
When I was defenseless
And parting with them is like parting with invisible best friends

This ring will help me yet as will you knight in shining armor
This pill will help me yet as will these boys gone through like water

But this won't work as well as the way it once did
Cuz I want to decide between survival and [truth]
And though I know who I'm not I still don't know who I am
But I know I won't keep on playing the victim

These precious illusions in my head did not let me down when I was a kid
And parting with them is like parting with a childhood best friend

I've spent so long firmly looking outside me
I've spent so much time living in survival mode

Michel Sardou - La rivière de notre enfance

Prelisten (RealAudio alert)

I'm generally more sensitive to music than words, but I'll paste them anyway:

Je me souviens d'amour
Je me souviens des gestes
Le fiacre du retour
Le parfum sur ma veste

Je me souviens si tard
Je me souviens si peu

Break Your Heart lyrics

People downcast, is despair
See the disillusion everywhere
Hoping their bad luck will change
Gets a little harder every day

People struggle, people fight
For the simple pleasures in their lives
But trouble comes from everywhere
It's a little more than you can bear

I know that it will hurt
I know that it will break your heart
The way things are
And the way they've been
And the way they've always been

People shallow, self-absorbed
See the push and shove for their rewards
I, me, my is on their minds
You can read about it in their eyes

People ruthless, people cruel
See the damage that some people do
Full of hatred, full of pride
It's enough to make you loose your mind

I know that it will hurt
I know that it will break your heart
The way things are
And the way they've been

I know that it will hurt
I know that it will break your heart
The way things are
And the way they've been

Don't spread the discontent
Don't spread the lies
Don't make the same mistakes
With your own life
You never will let love survive

I know that it will hurt
I know that it will break your heart
The way things are
And the way they've been

Don't spread the discontent
Don't spread the lies
Don't make the same mistakes
With your own life
Don't disrespect yourself
Don't loose your pride
And don't think that
Everybody's gonna choose your side

The song Survivor by Destiny’s Child is interesting. A cool video but it’s got an interesting ‘twist' at the end (in my opinion). Towards the end of the video they sing:

'After all of the darkness and sadness,
Still comes happiness,
If I surround myself with positive things,
I'll gain prosperity'.

Shorly after singing these words these helicopters come to the island to rescue them. Hmmm, I wonder if they are really being 'saved' or are the helicopters really taking them from the frying pan into the fire?

(Verse 1)
Now that you are out of my life,
I'm so much better,
You thought that I'd be weak without ya,
But I'm stronger,
You thought that I'd be broke without ya,
But I'm richer,
You thought that I'd be sad without ya,
I laugh harder,
You thought I wouldn't grow without ya,
Now I'm wiser,
You thought that I'd be helpless without ya,
But I'm smarter,
You thought that I'd be stressed without ya,
But I'm chillin'
You thought I wouldn't sell without ya,
Sold nine million.

[Chorus]
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what).

(Verse 2)
Thought I couldn't breathe without you,
I'm inhalin'
You thought I couldn't see without you,
Perfect vision,
You thought I couldn't last without ya,
But I'm lastin'
You thought that I would die without ya,
But I'm livin'
Thought that I would fail without ya,
But I'm on top,
Though it would be over by now,
But it won't stop,
You thought that I would self-destruct,
But I'm still here,
Even in my years to come,
I'm still gon' be here.

[Chorus]
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what).

(Bridge)
I'm wishin' you the best,
Pray that you are blessed,
Much success, no stress, and lots of happiness,
(I'm better than that)
I'm not gonna blast you on the radio,
(I'm better than that)
I'm not gonna lie on you or your family, yo,
(I'm better than that)
I'm not gonna hate you in the magazine,
(I'm better than that)
I'm not gonna compromise my Christianity,
(I'm better than that)
You know I'm not gonna diss you on the Internet
Cause my momma told me better than that.

[Chorus]
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what).

Oh (Oh) Oh (Oh) Oh...

After all of the darkness and sadness,
Still comes happiness,
If I surround myself with positive things,
I'll gain prosperity.

[Chorus]
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what)(Don't stop me now)
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what).

Eye of the Beholder by Metallica

Do you see what I see?
Truth is an offense
You silence for your confidence

Do you hear what I hear?
Doors are slamming shut
Limit your imagination, keep you where they must

Do you feel what I feel?
Bittering distress
Who decides what you express?

Do you take what I take?
Endurance is the word
Moving back instead of forward seems to me absurd

Doesn't matter what you see
Or into it what you read
You can do it your own way
If it's done just how I say

Independence limited
Freedom of choice
Is made for you, my friend
Freedom of speech
Is words that they will bend
Freedom with their exception

Do you fear what I fear?
Living properly
Truths to you are lies to me

Do you choose what I choose?
More alternatives
Energy derives from both the plus and negative

Do you need what I need?
Boundaries overthrown
Look inside to each his own

Do you trust what I trust?
Me, myself, and I
Penetrate the smokescreen I see through the selfish lie

Doesn't matter what you see
Or into it what you read
You can do it your own way
If it's done just how I say

Independence limited
Freedom of choice
Is made for you, my friend
Freedom of speech
Is words that they will bend
Freedom with their exception

Do you know what I know?
Your money and your wealth
Your silence just to hear yourself

Do you want what I want?
Desire not a thing
I hunger after independence lengthen freedom's ring

Doesn't matter what you see
Or into it what you read
You can do it your own way
If it's done just how I say

Independence limited
Freedom of choice
Is made for you, my friend
Freedom of speech
Is words that they will bend
Freedom no longer frees you

Doesn't matter what you see
Or into it what you read
You can do it your own way
If it's done just how I say

The album this song is on, ...And Justice For All, is great.

This song has been stuck in my head ever since the VT shooting and Laura's post about the "drop dead date."

All Along the Watchtower - Bob Dylan

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.

And who could forget this merry little jingle.

Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth
You take a mortal man,
And put him in control
Watch him become a god,
Watch peoples heads a-roll
A-roll...

Chorus:
Just like the pied piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes,
Swaying to the symphony...
Of destruction

Acting like a robot,
Its metal brain corrodes.
You try to take its pulse,
Before the head explodes.
Explodes...

(Chorus)

The earth starts to rumble
World powers fall
A-warring for the heavens,
A peaceful man stands tall
Tall...

REM's Aftermath from about 1981, if I'm not mistaken, sure sounds a lot to me like someone describing a transition from 3rd to 4th density. If someone has already submitted this song with comments, I apologize for not having seen it. Check it out:

Now the radio stutters, snaps to life.
Some sour song that sets it right.
And when London falls
He'd [Jesus, perhaps?] like to call
But the stars collide.
They're beautiful and much maligned.
In a universe [3rd density?] where you see the worst,
And it's up to you to fix it [discernment?]

Now you've worked it out
And you see it all[!]
And you've worked it out
And you see it all
And you want to shout
How you see it all [whoa!]

It's easy to dismiss the "what's it all about" crowd,
There is no doubt - it's this, here, now.
And you close your eyes,
He's [again Jesus, perhaps?] not coming back.
So you work it out, overfeed the cat.
And the plants are dry and they need to drink.
So you do your best, and you flood the sink,
Sit down in the kitchen and cry.

Now you've worked it out
And you see it all
And you've worked it out
And you see it all
And you want to shout
How you see it all [Yes, one definitely wants to shout how one sees it all!]

Now the universe left you for a runners lap.
It feels like home when it comes crashing back.
And it makes you laugh
And it makes you cry.
When London falls
And you're still alive [you gotta be kiddin' me!].
The radio stutters,
it makes you laugh
And the aftermath,
Open up your eyes,
You're so alive [no, he ain't kiddin'].

Now you've worked it out
And you see it all
And you've worked it out
And you see it all
And you want to shout
How you see it all
How you've worked it out
And you see it all
How you've worked it out
And you see it all.

Dreams Within
(from "Final Fantasy: Spirit Within" movie)

Free
The dream within
The stars are crying
a tear A sigh
Escapes from heaven
And worlds end
Breathe
The dream within
The mystifying

We tremble and spin
Suspended within

Look beyond
Where hearts can see
Dream in peace
Trust the belief

We tremble and spin
Suspended within

Free
The dream within
The voice is calling a song
A prayer
From deep inside you
To guide you
Be
The dream within
The light is shining

A flight on the wind
Salvation begins

Look beyond
Where hearts can see
Dream in peace
Trust the belief

We tremble and spin
Suspended within

Free
The dream within
The stars are crying
A tear
A sigh
Escapes from heaven
And worlds end

I pulled out an old Golden Earring album the other day. Did I say album?

Here is a love song…

From the Album * Switch

Here's a sad - real sad record I've gotta dedicate
To a friend out there, somewhere on a big highway
That's quite a note you wrote
Before you sneaked out with that - what's his name...?
Here's our song - yes the one
I used to play for you all day
You've gotta call and explain
Before you leave the station's range
I don't care who's listenin' in
Honey I'm against the wall
I'll adjust my programme
To the kind of fool I am
I can only hope that you're tuned in
I have no choise, baby
I sell my voice, maybe
I'm just another lonesome D.J.
Alone, with a phone and a stack of black vinyl
And I know, that home could be just as futile
Without your prescence
It wouldn't make any sense
So I beg - I never did
never realized my love for you was that immense
Let me tell you she didn't call
A FINGER to you all
I might as well have a ball - and play some ROCK

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullsh*t three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless f***ing hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any f***ing time. Any f***ing day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullsh*t three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipsh*ts.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly sh*t, stupid sh*t...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

F*** L Ron Hubbard and
F*** all his clones.
F*** all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

F*** retro anything.
F***your tattoos.
F*** all you junkies and
F*** your short memory.

Learn to swim.

F*** smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
F*** these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

I listen to this song every once in awhile. "learn to swim" has taken a knew meaning for me. Used to be an "F it all" type attitude.

Sounds of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools", said I, "you do not know"
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.
