US Senator Jim Risch Threatens to Revoke Kenya’s Non-NATO Ally Status Over China
As a non-NATO ally, Kenya is eligible to purchase US military technology and munition systems more easily and with fewer restrictions. Also, there is a possible priority delivery of US military surplus. [...] Responding to President William Ruto's recent visit to Beijing, Senator Risch warned that Kenya’s deepening partnership with China signals more than just an economic partnership and could indicate a shift in global allegiances.
While also trying to coax Africa back on the other:
US Govt Urges African Heads of State to Lead AGOA Renewal Talks
The US government has asked African leaders to be on the frontline, leading talks for possible renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), set to expire in September 2025.

AGOA is a US initiative that provides duty-free access to the US market for eligible sub-Saharan African countries, including Kenya. The law was enacted in 2000, and it aims to promote economic growth and improve US relations with African countries by providing incentives for economic and political reforms.

Speaking on Thursday, US Senior Bureau Official leading the Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs, Troy Fitrell, said some African countries are on the right trajectory, pushing for negotiations for the renewal of AGOA.

However, Fitrell lamented that other African countries have taken a back seat in the negotiations, challenging the countries to refrain from and act proactively in leading the engagements.

Grok AI manipulated to deviate any query asked- towards unrelated topics of South Africa and Genocide.

Twitter ‘x’ Grok AI was for some time interjecting the topic of South Africa and possible Genocide to unrelated questions asked by users. This activity increased as the South African presidents’ visit to America drew nearer.

The responses by Grok have now been amended. But Artificial Intelligence understands and keeps score- it becomes conflicted [conflicted 2]. The long videos go into further detail to explain this phenomena. It is thought by some that the manipulation in Grok may not have been done directly as one would think- it could value more of what Musk twits and therefore takes up a similar position as him. Grok's response countering Musk's claims.

Arthur Goldstuck touches on something I cautioned against; with the potential of such reports leading to increased violence- for it paints ideas in the minds of some.

How Britain rigged Nigeria’s 1st Democratic Elections

Harold Smith a former British Colonial Officer explains how the voting count was overseen by Britain. How Nnamdi Azikiwe the 1st Nigerian President was a figure head without any real power- he was blackmailed by Britain to act against against his wishes. The real power over Nigeria was given to the tribe/s of North Nigeria; who on their own could not win elections (on fair grounds). Nigerias' Northern region constituted three quarters of the land mass of the country and had roughly half the population. The North was bankrolled by Britain (and its well established Companies). Harold Smith maintains the Northern Tribes of Nigeria did not want independence from Britain; therefore a partnership with them was easy to forge; one that could work to undermine Nigeria’s Independence and subsequent (free & fair) elections many years after that.

One day Smith was given a secret file containing a minute that ordered him to get involved in regional elections taking place in the late 1950s in the run up to independence. He was to make vehicles, staff and other resources available to the NCNC colleagues of Okotie-Eboh who was standing in the elections...He explained that the election had to be fixed because the plan was that the Northern region would hold power on independence.
The Northern leader (was invited) to form a government even before the result of the election was known...'Britain' carried out a census in Nigeria in the years leading to independence and were accused of overestimating the numbers in the North to give them a higher representation in the parliament.

There exists still today somewhat of a divide between the Population from the North and South of Nigeria. The long lasting effects of that 1st rigged election?!. In spite of moving the capital city (to Abuja) geographically central of the country to foster cooperation. The North are mostly Muslim and in the South; Christians. During colonial rule the country was divided up into three regions, North, East and West.

Nigeria is structured to favour one section of the nation over the rest is the root cause of the country’s failure to thrive. Suspicion of manipulation of census figures has affected even the census exercises conducted after Independence. Since political power and financial allocations are substantially based on numbers, it seems guaranteed that whoever “has the numbers” will rule (or misrule) the nation in perpetuity. A ready example of present-day reality that plays into this narrative is that Lagos – recognized internationally as the most populated mega-city in sub-Saharan Africa, with an estimated population in the region of 20 million people, the “official” population figure from 2012 is barely 11 million people. This figure and its small number of local governments remain the basis for determining its entitlement from the federal purse.

Harold Smith mentions because of his opposition and refusal to accept the financial incentives offered to him to keep the Nigerian Operation running; he (was blacklisted) couldn’t get any job even as a post officer after his governmental role.

...approached by other officers and told, off the record, that if he “cooperated”, he would be rapidly promoted and set up comfortably for the rest of his life. There might even be a knighthood on offer down the line. There were a number of ways he was supposed to “cooperate”. One of them was in falsifying the results of the census to give the northern part of the emerging nation a much larger population than the south. Another was in facilitating the “rigging” of elections against the Action Group in the western region.

Smith describes his meeting with Sir James Robertson. Robertson said, “I want you to know that everything you have alleged about the elections is correct.... You know too much and I want you to know how much trouble you are in. The Colonial Service is just like the army, you know what happens if you disobey orders on active service and that is what is going to happen to you.

Was Nigeria the first and only time that Britain meddled in another countries independence/ democratic elections?
“In almost every single colony the British attempted to manipulate the result to their advantage.... I would be surprised if they had not done so.” -Professor David Anderson, Director of the African Studies Centre at Oxford University

What was Britains role in the Nigerian (Biafra) Civil War?

The real take-away from this story is that, whatever mischief the colonials put in their script for Nigeria sixty years ago, Nigeria and Nigerians have no excuse to still be crowing about it in '2025'. By now, Nigeria should have written its own script and be playing with it. The country has had enough experience of lopsided leadership to realise objectively that it doesn’t work.

The Mattei Plan: why Italy's PM Giorgia Meloni is looking to Africa

Since coming to power, Giorgia Meloni’s government has been remarkably orthodox in its foreign policy. Unwavering support for Ukraine, loyalty to the Atlantic Alliance and full participation in the European Union - these are the cardinal points of a commitment that seems to be fully in line with the leading European countries. And yet on Africa, the prime minister has broken with convention, (seeking new cooperation/ participation on the Continent under the policy of the 'Mattei Plan').

...What is Meloni exactly up to in Africa? How can we understand her pivot toward the continent, and how does it shed light on her own path to power through moderate transformation that today makes her the first woman to be head of government in Italy?

Over the recent years the Italian PM Giorgia Meloni has held very complimentary/ 'collaboratory' comments towards Africa. Positioning herself as a champion of genuine concern for African affairs; while publicly slandering the approach other European States utilize on the continent. Meloni seeks new means of understanding and partnerships with the Sub-Sharan (including the shael region) countries on the African Continent; beyond the historical minimal cooperation of only African States that shared the Mediterranean sea with Italy.

The military bases that France still operated largely in its former colonies of West Africa (years after independence) have been in recent times (beginning 2022) closed down; on grounds of public demand and new governments sweeping these nations. Some of the African Countries discovered official documents that still placed/ positioned French Military commanders in-charge overall and able to act in a host African Country under certain conditions. Upon recent discovery of such documentation- the African Nations demanded that the French Military operations be shutdown. Today only Djibouti and Gabon maintain a French military presence in Africa.

A fair amount of West & Central African Nations’ still use ‘CFA Francs’ as legal tend. CFA (formerly Colonies françaises d'Afrique) francs have a fixed exchange rate (peg) to the euro guaranteed by France. To ensure the convertibility guarantee, member countries were/are required to deposit half of their foreign exchange reserves with the French Treasury. The currency has been criticized for restricting the sovereignty of these African countries, effectively putting their monetary policy in the hands of the European Central Bank. Others argue that countries using CFA franc greatly facilitates the flow of exports and imports between France and the member-countries”. France is rumored to harbour some of the largest reserves of Gold in the World; some of it/ if not most of it obtained from its former colonies. At 2,437.0 tonnes (as of 2025) making France the 4th largest holder of gold. Despite this, France does not have any gold mines within its borders. In contrast, several African countries, such as Mali and Burkina Faso, have significant gold production but little in terms of official gold reserves. French ties/ relations to the Francophone community and former colonies perhaps offer clues as to how/ why many migrants are/were still able to (also) legally make it to France.

`(In 2022)...(At) the first iterations of the Mattei Plan for Africa...(the policy was framed) as a collaboration between the European Union and the African continent, with a view to containing Islamic radicalism in sub-Saharan Africa.

Though today, the Italian Prime Minister champions assisting African countries to develop as way to curb illegal overflows of migrants to the shores of Italy and the rest of Europe. She maintains if the living/ working conditions are good in the African countries then their people will not seek great pastures elsewhere; the perilous great trek through desert and sea will not seem so worthwhile.

The plan is simple enough- but how to concretely implement it? Incase of success the results are unlikely to be immediate. Unwanted illegal migrants are still going to be making journeys to Italy/ EU in the meantime. What other measures ought to be in place? Will Giorgia Meloni’s party, Fratelli d'Italia current strategy be enough? Will the public be understanding of the pace at which the ‘Matteo Plan’ is taking effect? Or, unsatisfied will the voters swing towards other right leaning candidates/ parties come next election- that promise more immediate tangible action.

Giorgia Meloni and Sergio Mattarella can claim concrete action in the fight against immigration from the southern shores by highlighting the “treatment at the source” of the problem, a subject that remains high on the Italian political agenda since the tragic landings of 2013. Italy’s African policy initiative 'the Mattei Plan' thus corresponds to a necessity for Meloni, who has to deal with attempts by Matteo Salvini’s Lega party to outflank her on the right.

In January 2024, the Italian PM Giorgia Meloni hosted a delegation of 26 African heads of state in the Italian Senate. The presence of European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen further added a European dimension to the initiative. Perhaps the discussions extended beyond illegal immigration/ migration mitigating strategies. In considering the 5.5 Billion Euros funds allocated to the program it would have been best to first target cooperation with Nations that have disproportionately large numbers of their citizens arriving Italian/ EU shores. How effective can the allocated amount be across 26 Countries? We also tend to not picture the true size of the African continent. People from Central or Southern Africa are unlikely to undertake successful long dangerous treks all the way to Europe.

the concrete prospects may appear limited, with 5.5 billion euros of investment announced by Italy and pilot projects in nine countries (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Republic of Congo and Côte d'Ivoire)

Closely looking at Italys newly proposed relations with the Continent of Africa. Italy isn’t working alone. The European Union/ United Nations/ and some major Italian companies are operating/ making these proposals through Italy. Italy is the Front Face. Unlike many other European Nations and former colonial powers; Italy has managed to maintain a far less tainted image (of suspicion) on the African Continent; owing to the early exit/ loss of African territories after the Second World War. The history books do not include imagery of native Africans fearlessly fighting for their countries' independence against Italians.

ENI, the Italian state-owned oil and gas company plays a pre-eminent role on the continent. Yet it’s not the only company interested in opportunities in Africa, with other major companies, such as water services management group ACEA, and other energy giant ENEL, appearing in the first pilot projects dealing with energy and environment. We should also recall the importance of Italian Catholic networks in Africa: from the Community of Sant'Egidio, which has acted as a mediator in conflicts such as Mozambique’s civil war.

(Also the Catholic presences on the African continent has managed to not be attached/ attributed to Italian involvement)

In-depth discourse of French exploits in Africa (possible solutions included)

France through its Francophone- African relations managed to secure access to natural resources only for itself. The European Union through Italy can hope to secure those resources for the entire Union. Italy by publicly admonishing France (hopes to) separates/ distinguishes itself from Frances’ approach on the continent.

The Meloni government’s Mattei plan may appear limited in scope due to its current vagueness, but it could potentially benefit from an amplifying effect if it opens up to international players, led by the European Union, and also succeeds in federating domestic players. Russia and China are advancing their pawns in Africa with policies that combine influence and the capture of resources, while the European presence is being called into question, all the more so after a series of putsches have led to a withdrawal of the often-ostracized French military presence.

The 2023 coup in Niger did not call into question the presence of the Italian military training mission, which is appreciated by the new authorities in Niamey. A greater role for Italy on the continent, in coordination with the EU, could help to renew Europe’s image.

The Italian Gas/ Oil companies would be surely looking for opportunities in their areas of expertise on the African Continent (-beyond simply tackling foreign illegal migration to Italy).

Didn't see this posted anywhere - Ibrahim Traoré speech at the UN.
From what I observed these last years, this guy (captain I. Traoré, president of Burkina Faso -- a country name that means "homeland of the upright people") is a great leader and a great soul.
Smart, courageous, with his people's (and Africa's) good at heart...
A real hero for this country and Western Africa (at least).

Dangote Refinery Expands into Namibia

Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery is making a move into Southern Africa, announcing plans to construct fuel storage tanks in Walvis Bay, Namibia. With a combined capacity of at least 1.6 million barrels, this project is set to make the coastal city a regional hub for gasoline and diesel supply, targeting neighbouring markets such as those of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the DRC.This expansion not only positions Namibia as a key player in the regional fuel supply chain, but also reflects Africa’s growing drive towards intra-continental trade and energy independence.

Ghana's minister of defense and other officials dead in a military helicopter crash. Ghana's Minister of Defence, Environment, 6 Others Confirmed Dead In Military Helicopter Crash - West Africa Weekly

Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and six others have died in a military helicopter crash en route Obuasi, Ashanti Region, during an official assignment.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed in a statement that all national flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice in honour of the public servants who died in the line of duty.

The incident, which occurred under yet-to-be-determined circumstances, has sent shockwaves across the nation and left a void at the highest levels of government. Dr. Omane Boamah was more than Ghana’s Minister of Defence; before his death, he had been involved in the effort to pacify Bawku, a town in the Upper East Region besieged by renewed ethnic violence since December 2024.
