When did human civilization peak?

If you want to compare culture, you also need to include all the problematic aspects of life centuries ago.

I think a better question is whether there were percentage-wise more awake people who had a lot of knowledge or a higher FRV. I don't have the answer to that.

In absolute numbers there are almost certainly more people like that today, simply because the world population is many times higher.

No doubt. I was thinking more narrowly about the cultural aspects creativity and craftsmanship (i.e. skill mastery, dedication, persistence and the valuing of beauty and excellence).
