White Helmets

Alexander Shulgin, the Russian envoy to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said Moscow can prove that the footage containing the scene of an alleged use of a warfare chemical agent in the Syrian city of Douma was crudely staged by the so-called White Helmets.

"We can prove today that the White Helmets’ runner was a crudely staged product," Shulgin said on Thursday at a news conference where eyewitnesses of the April alleged chemical attack in Douma made their first-hand evidence, TASS reported.

"Consequently, the references our Western partners - we call them ‘partners’ - make to the runner as a piece of evidence of the chemical attack are simply null and void," he stated, adding that "our news briefing today was aimed to show precisely this fact".

Unfortunately, after having a discussion with a pair of people in Twitter, I got such a feeling that even though the truth about the WH is very obvious by now, some people will just not care a bit about it, so this huge effort by the Russians gets completely lost for them. They might even find excuses to defend the White Helmets actions because they are, "oh, such an honorable organisation saving lives, how dare you say bad things about them?!" :umm: It's depressing...

But well, I guess all we have to do is keep on spreading that truth so that it gets to some people willing to see it at least, so keep on posting this info and thanks! I also see people sharing a lot, so I guess there's a positive balance to it as well.

Thursday 26 April 2018 - Russia slammed for 'stunt' of presenting unharmed Syrians to gas attack probe
Russia slammed for 'stunt' of presenting unharmed Syrians to gas attack probe

Russia and Syria presented more than a dozen unharmed people from Ghouta, Syria, at the premises of the Organisation for the Prohibition for Chemical Weapons on Thursday to support claims there was no chemical attack in the region this month.

Britain dismissed the move as a theatrical "stunt" and said allied powers including France and the United States had boycotted the closed-door briefing at The Hague in the Netherlands. (It was not "a closed door briefing" but was conducted with reporters and news agencies present, during the scheduled meeting.)

"The OPCW is not a theatre. Russia's decision to misuse it is yet another Russian attempt to undermine the OPCW's work," said British ambassador to the OPCW Peter Wilson in a statement.

French ambassador Philippe Lalliot also denounced the briefing as an "obscene masquerade".

"This masquerade only betrays the huge nervousness of those who organised it and who have the most to fear from the OPCW investigation," Lalliot said.

"No-one is fooled. The truth will come out."

The OPCW is investigating the deaths of dozens of people in Douma, an enclave in Ghouta, on 7 April which the United States and its allies said was caused by chemical weapons, possibly a nerve agent, used by forces of the Syrian government.

The suspected attacks led to air strikes by the US, France and Britain against sites in Syria. Both Syria and Russia have denied the accusation and said rebel forces staged the attacks.

Russia and Syria on Thursday later brought 15 Syrians to a news conference in the Hague who said they had not seen any evidence of chemical weapons being used in Ghouta.

The OPCW has also criticized the meeting in its headquarters, saying it had recommended to Russia that it should wait until its inspectors had completed their work. (OPCW was eleven (11) days late getting to the site to investigate. For one, the FUKUS bombed Syria the day OPCW was to arrive to the location of the suppose chemical attack. Yet, it is FUKUS who are the loudest to voice strong opposition of Syria and Russia for calling upon the Hague, so an emergency meeting could take place - to document individual testimony.)

One child, identified by Syrian government-provided translators as 11-year-old Hasan Diab from Ghouta, said he had been to a hospital after the attack.

"They started pouring water on me in the hospital. I don't know why," he said.

The boy resembled a child seen in a video widely shown on Western television stations after the alleged attack.

Russia's ambassador to the Netherlands said the video was "staged" by the White Helmets, a Syrian aid group that receives funding from the US and other Western governments.

OPCW investigators on the spot visited a second site in Ghouta on Wednesday to take samples.

It's hard to discern the real "Truth" when carefully crafted propaganda pieces, like this one - flood the main stream news outlets.

I don't know if they can even craft their 'propaganda' carefully anymore. The accusations against Russia and Syria for 'exploiting' Hasan have quickly gone underfire. The west did essentially the same thing with Bana, the main difference is that whole thing turned out to be a lie. It's another one of those things that are so in your face hypocritical that it's almost comical. What I've noticed is that the middle ground is sort of disappearing. People either right away call bullshit or the propaganda works. Though lately and more often than not, I'll see a flood of comments denouncing a story or calling out their hypocrisy when these stories come out (esp. on Twitter). Here's some stuff that popped into my feed for example:

So I think there's something going on where more and more people are not buying into it. It's all very interesting!

ROGER WATERS - WHITE HELMETS ARE FAKE PROPAGANDA CONSTRUCT FOR TERRORISTS

Had initially missed this and it is over a couple of weeks old, so thanks for posting it, and especially to Mr. Waters!

It was interesting as some of the 'crowd' were reacting in a way opposite to Mr. Waters thinking, and they were not expecting his words, they were going off the trigger words they have come to accept in the MSM. Their clapping and vocals quickly faded away when realizing what was being said.

Speaking of the media and this event, the JPost picked up on what Rodger had to say (their video link does not work, at least here anyway): https://www.jpost.com/International/Roger-Waters-slams-Syria-intervention-attacks-White-Helmets-as-fake-549894

Roger Waters slams Syria intervention, attacks ‘White Helmets’ as 'fake'
Waters claimed that listening to “propaganda” of the White Helmets about the chemical weapons attack would lead to bombing of Syria.

By Seth J. Frantzman

April 15, 2018 20:32

In a concert last Friday in Barcelona, former Pink Floyd leader Roger Waters launched into a tirade against a Syrian volunteer group called the White Helmets that does search and rescue in rebel-held areas. He called them a “fake organization” that created propaganda for “jihadists and terrorists.” He then claimed by that listening to the “propaganda of the White Helmets and others, we would be encouraged to encourage our governments to go and start dropping bombs on people in Syria.”

The video of Waters’s statement was posted on Youtube by a group called Hands Off Syria. It showed Waters at a concert in his “Us+Them” 2018 tour.

{video}

Waters begins by claiming that someone had wanted to come on stage and make a speech about the chemical-weapons attack in Douma: “He is one voice. I personally think he is entirely wrong, I believe the organization that he purports to represent and who he supports, the White Helmets, are a fake organization that is creating propaganda for jihadists and terrorists – that’s what I believe.”

The White Helmets group was the subject of a 2017 documentary and was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize that same year.

Waters claimed that listening to “propaganda” of the White Helmets about the chemical weapons attack would lead to the bombing of Syria. The US, UK and France launched air strikes in the early morning hours of April 14, after the Barcelona concert.

“This would be a mistake of monumental proportions, in terms of us as human beings,” Waters said. “What we should do is be persuading our governments not to go and drop bombs on people – and certainly not until we have done all the research that is necessary, so that we have a clear idea of what is going on.” He claimed that “we live in a world where propaganda appears to be more important than the reality of what is going on in places.” {good quote}

Opposition in the West to the air strikes in Syria has taken many forms. Waters was accused of “echoing Russian propaganda” in The New Arab, an online publication. Idrees Ahmad, a lecturer in digital journalist at Scotland’s University of Stirling and a contributing editor at the Los Angeles Review of Books, wrote on Twitter that Waters “debuts a new career as a conspiracist crank promoting racist slurs against Syrian first responders.” { :rolleyes: }

Janine di Giovanni, an Edward Murrow Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the musician’s comments were disappointing. “I love Pink Floyd as musicians. But WTF does Roger Waters know about Syria? He once promoted the Palestine [sic] cause. Now he’s promoting [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s propaganda,” she tweeted Saturday.

Waters has been a long-time supporter of BDS against Israel and encourages other musicians to boycott the country.

Thank you CFR Janine, I think Mr. Waters knows plenty.

There was no comment section, yet it made it to thier headlines even if JPost had a couple of numbskulls weighed in at the end.

Tip of the hat, Mr. Waters!

04.05.2018 - US halts Funding for White Helmets in Syria - Reports :phaser:
US Halts Funding for White Helmets in Syria – Reports

The US administration has reportedly halted funding for the White Helmets in Syria, a nonprofit praised by the West for helping civilians and blamed by Russia for faking proof of the Syrian government’s alleged atrocities.

Raed Saleh, the leader of the controversial group, told CBS the flow of US cash, which amounts to a third of their budget, had stopped in recent weeks, almost two months after their delegation was hosted by the US State Department in Washington, DC in March.

An internal State Department document reportedly said the Near East Bureau required confirmation from the administration by April 15 or else all funding for the self-styled humanitarian group would be frozen.

The State Department said the White Helmets financing was "under active review," according to the US broadcaster. Saleh complained they had not been formally notified and only had enough money to last for one or two months.

The White Helmets reported in early April an alleged chemical attack in Douma, which they claim was performed by the Syrian government, who has refuted all the allegations. Soon after the incident, France, the United States and the UK launched massive missile strikes against government targets in Syria.

Later, the Russian Envoy to the OPCW reported that Russian experts who conducted the verification of reports on the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Douma, found participants in the filming of the video, presented earlier by the White Helmets, which was provided as evidence of the supposed chemotherapy given to victims after the alleged chemical attack.

Meanwhile, Hasan Diab, a Syrian boy who has been documented in the video by the White Helmets about the alleged chemical weapons attack, told the Russian TV channel Rossiya 24 about the details of the White Helmets' footage. The boy said that he was in a basement in Douma with his mother when someone shouted to go to the hospital. When they arrived, somebody grabbed him, poured water on him and put him on a bed with other people in order to shoot a video, after that they were released.

04.05.2018 - UK to Continue Support of White Helmets in Syria - Foreign Office
UK to Continue Support of White Helmets in Syria - Foreign Office

The United Kingdom will continue to support the activities of the White Helmets organization in war-torn Syria, a Foreign Office spokesperson told Sputnik on Friday commenting on the reported suspension of assistance to the non-governmental group by Washington.

"The UK remains committed to supporting the White Helmets and the vital work they do, providing life-saving assistance to civilians affected by Syria’s conflict," the spokesperson said.

The statement was made in wake of the CBS report broadcasted on Thursday, saying that the US Department of State halted funding for the White Helmets in Syria. According to the media outlet, the US share in the funding of the group stands at about a third of its budget. The broadcaster added, citing a group representative, that provision of funds had stopped in recent weeks.

The situation in Syria significantly escalated, when the White Helmets, a Western-backed NGO, released a video showing alleged victims of the "chemical attack" in the city of Douma on April 7, which the US immediately blamed on the troops of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Damascus denied the allegations, while Moscow considered whole "attack" to be a false flag provocation carried out to justify the followed aggression against the country. Later Russian journalists found alleged victims of the "chemical attack", who asserted they were forced into the staged video.

05.05.2018 - Here's How White Helmets Used to Get Funding
Here's How White Helmets Used to Get Funding

CBS recently reported, citing the leader of the controversial group, that the US had halted the White Helmets' funding, which amounted to a third of the group's budget. The Russian Defense Ministry has suggested it may be connected with the recent massive exposure of the White Helmets' provocations and fake videos.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, speaking about the White Helmets' funding, noted that the media has published many materials showing that the NGO was getting its financing from countries directly involved in the Syrian crisis, namely the US, UK and the Netherlands.

According to the foreign ministry spokesperson, among companies that participated in funding the White Helmets' were the Qatari Foundation, which subsidized the purchase of unspecified "heavy equipment," and Mayday Rescues, which allegedly has British origins.

Zakharova also added that George Soros-backed companies were used to promote the White Helmets in the media.

Vladimir Fitin from the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies offered his view on the reasons behind the alleged halting of US funding for the White Helmets' in an interview with Sputnik. According to him, the US decided to find more "serious" and effective partners to work with in Syria.

"I think that this was a natural reaction to obvious failures that this organization, funded by Western countries, has shown. Some obvious facts have already been revealed, depicting multiple fakes aimed to intensify the anti-Russian and anti-Syrian campaign," the scholar said.

The White Helmets are a Syrian NGO that claims to be a politically neutral organization aimed at defending the country's civilian population. However, they have been spotted multiple times working with terrorist groups and staging fake videos of attacks, including allegedly chemical ones, against the civil population by the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

One of their latest fake videos showed patients in Douma hospital that allegedly suffered from a chemical attack. The Syrian government denied the allegation and Russia deployed its chemical experts to determine whether the attack was real. Both countries invited an OPCW mission to join them in a fact-finding mission. So far, no confirmation of the attack has been found.

Later, Russian journalists found several participants from the White Helmets video. The participants were invited to testify before the OPCW and also to speak at a press briefing, where they explained how the notorious video was made and that there was actually no chemical attack.

The leader of the White Helmets said recently, according to CBS, that the United States, which is responsible for 1/3 of their finances, was halting their funding. The Russian Ministry of Defense suggested that the move was caused by multiple facts that resurfaced recently, proving the NGO was producing fake videos and reports of chemical attacks.

White Helmets Complex Down Lane From Terrorist Bomb Making Factory, Ghouta
Eva Bartlett | May 5, 2018 at 05:16 (Associated links within):
Recently, I visited Saqba, eastern Ghouta, interested in seeing the vacated former White Helmets complex. These “humanitarian” and “neutral” so-called rescuers instead of staying with civilians left with other terrorists when the Syrian government liberated eastern Ghouta and humanely gave terrorists the option to be safely transported to Idlib (or, if a terrorist without blood on his hands, and also not a foreign mercenary, to lay down arms and join the reconciliation process, which as of last year when I inquired had over 85,000 participants returned to their civilian lives).
Down a path from their two building complex, just roughly 250 metres or less away, was the bomb making setup of Faylaq al-Rahman, producing mortars and missiles of varying sizes, used to fire on civilians in Damascus.

Please watch Vanessa Beeley’s highly-informative interview on this complex (starting at around 39 minutes 40 seconds into her May 1, 2018 interview on UK Column).

Corporate media does not deign to report that over 11,000 civilians were killed in Damascus alone by such mortar and missile attacks. Hardest hit were Damascus’ old city, where I’ve spent weeks and weeks in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now 2018. Thankfully, unlike prior years, now the old city is not being pounded daily by these mortars. But in prior years, the attacks on civilian areas was relentless and brutal. Following are links related to such attacks.

BEIRUT (AFP) -
Syria's White Helmets rescue force are facing a "freeze" on funding from the US, its chief told AFP Saturday, saying he was worried President Donald Trump would suddenly cut support.

Raed Saleh said that Syria Civil Defence, also known as the White Helmets, would continue its programming but that financial support coming from the US was under review.

"We were not formally told of any halt to funding, but what we were informed of was a freeze to some of the Middle Eastern projects by American organisations, in order to review their feasibility," he said.

"Among them are projects linked to stabilisation in Syria, which includes part of the White Helmets' work," Saleh added.

Speaking from Turkey, he told AFP the group's plans were being "completely reviewed."

Sat May 05, 2018 - US ‘Freezes Funding’ for White Helmets as Group’s Douma Chem Attack Claim Falls apart
Farsnews

As the reputation of the controversial militant-linked White Helmets continues to crumble, even the US State Department seems to be having second thoughts about supporting the group, reportedly placing a freeze on its funding.

The State Department’s support for the White Helmets is “under active review”, according to a CBS News report. The group reportedly hasn’t received funding in weeks, but neither has it received formal confirmation that Washington’s financial assistance has come to a complete halt. This would mean a significant blow for the group, as the money accounts for about one-third of the White Helmets’ overall funding, RT reported.

An internal State Department document cited by CBS said that its Near East Bureau needed confirmation from US President Donald Trump’s administration by April 15 in order to approve funding for the White Helmets. If that wasn't received, the department would initiate “shut-down procedures on a rolling basis.”

Online reaction to the report has been mixed, with some continuing to hail the work of the White Helmets. Among them was Samantha Power, the former US Ambassador to the UN.

The former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul also took to Twitter to say that he has donated to the White Helmets in the past and "will do so again."

Meanwhile, Middle East political writer and commentator Marwa Osman took an entirely different approach towards the group which many hail as heroes. She referred to the White Helmets as "Al-Qaeda terrorists."

The report came amid major controversy surrounding the White Helmets, after residents of Douma, Syria, testified in The Hague at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The hearing centered on the alleged chemical attack that was used as a justification for the April 14 strikes by the US, Britain, and France.

In a press conference following the hearing, hospital staff and 11-year-old Hassan Diab – who is seen in troubling White Helmets footage following the alleged attack – said there was no sign of a chemical incident at the time and that the White Helmets’ video with children was apparently staged.

The footage, which showed Diab and other children being hosed down with water, was the only publicly available “evidence” that the attack ever took place.

Still, Trump and his British and French counterparts deemed it sufficient proof to launch over 100 missiles on Syria on April 14, accusing the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad of being behind the alleged attack.

The three allies were so keen to bomb Syria that they refused to wait for the results of an OPCW investigation before doing so.

If the report from CBS News is true, it could represent a significant U-turn for Washington.

Just last month, US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert called the group “an incredible group of individuals.”

At that time, she also stated that as far as she was aware, the White Helmets were still being paid by Washington, despite a $200-million freeze in US funding for recovery efforts in Syria in late March.

Although the White Helmets says it acts solely as a makeshift emergency response team in a time of crisis, claiming to have heroically saved more than 70,000 lives in war-torn Syria, others disagree with its motives.

Footage from Syria repeatedly showed members of the White Helmets assisting terrorist groups, while multiple accounts from civilians suggested they only helped “their own” and used civilians caught in the battle only for publicity.

Russia has stated that the Douma “chemical attack” was staged by the White Helmets, with the UK pressuring the group to “speed up the provocation.”

The group has enjoyed celebrity status in the West, with a documentary praising it even winning an Oscar. However, some artists have refused to give in to peer pressure and publicly spoke out against endorsing the shady group.

Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters recently lambasted White Helmets at a concert in Barcelona, calling the group a “fake organization that exists only to create propaganda for jihadists and terrorists.”

His remark came after emails emerged showing that the White Helmets tried to lobby Waters with Saudi money.

US Halt of Funding to White Helmets Aimed to Distract From Useful Tool - Analyst

Commenting on reports of the US decision to suspend funding for the White Helmets accused by Russia of spreading fake data about the use of chemical weapons in Syria, Moscow said that Western media should look into ways the NGO obtains its funding. Francesca Totolo, an independent Italian journalist, spoke with Sputnik about the issue.

Sputnik: In your view, why has the US stopped funding the organization?

Francesca Totolo:
In the context of the sources used by the Western mainstream media to tell the war in Syria, the White Helmets organization has always been the most used source for spreading propaganda against President Bashar al-Assad and supporting the "moderate rebels". The White Helmets are a British non-governmental organization founded by James Le Mesurier, former officer of the British army and intelligence service, and former (perhaps) mercenary of the contractor company ACADEMI (Blackwater).

We can not realistically talk about non-governmental organization because the White Helmets have received massive funding from various Western governments: the United States through USAID (the agency of the American government, created for the “export of democracy”, has officially donated 23 million dollars), Great Britain, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

At the beginning of last April, Donald Trump declared that he would immediately withdraw the troops deployed in Syria. The Pentagon's reaction soon came, leading to a series of pressures on the US president, such as those of the newly appointed Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joseph Dunford, which led to a rethinking of Trump.

Coincidentally, after a few days, the White Helmets staged the chemical weapons attack on Douma, calling international attention against President Assad and expressly demanding an intervention by the "allied forces".

I'm not so sure that the US government will actually stop funding the White Helmets organization. Maybe it's just another comedy from the American deep state to divert attention from such a useful tool to destabilize Syria.

Sputnik: How can this development impact the organization and the general situation in Syria?

Francesca Totolo:
I think it will not change anything at all. After the many and varied evidences of the organization's staging on the chemical weapons attack in Douma, probably the White Helmets will be replaced, to increase the credibility of the propaganda "pro regime change", by other NGOs already financed "for humanitarian purposes" since 2012 by the US government through USAID. Just to name a few: CARE International, Concern Worldwide, Global Communities, Humanity and Inclusion, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Islamic Relief USA, Relief International, and so on.

The American deep state will hardly abandon Syria and its imperialist project.

Sputnik: Some experts have pointed out that the funding may have been stopped due to Trump’s desire to roll back US involvement in Syria, what is your take on that?

Francesca Totolo:
As already explained, Donald Trump immediately corrected himself after the Pentagon pressures, declaring that he had renounced the immediate withdrawal of the military contingent from Syria, speaking of the defeat of ISIS [Daesh*] as a necessary condition.

At the moment, the US President does not seem to have the internal political force to impose himself on the deep state that are infiltrating everywhere in the American administration.

It will now be essential to see the developments on the Israeli offensive against Iran and the position the US will take on the issue.

Sputnik: Apart from the US the White Helmets receive funding from other countries as well is it likely that if the US decides to stop financing the group other countries will follow?

Francesca Totolo:
In addition to the US, the main supporters of the White Helmets are Great Britain, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands, as reported on the organization's website.
There may be a disengagement from other funding countries, but it will only be apparent. The White Helmets have become the fundamental allies of the so-called "moderate rebels", and therefore a very powerful weapon in the hands of the "allied forces" that it can easily be used as an intermediary with the contractor agencies and terrorist groups that, as we know, they were born with the approval of the Obama administration and its Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

May 04, 2018 - Video: Who’s Funding the White Helmets?
https://www.globalresearch.ca/video-whos-funding-the-white-helmets/5639059

As the U.S. moves closer toward all out war in Syria, a lot of what our government seems to base its intelligence on, especially claims of chemical weapon use by they Syrian government, is an impartial humanitarian group called the White Helmets.

You’ve no doubt, heard of the White Helmets. They have been praised in the media as heroes and have reportedly saved more than 100,000 lives as of April 2018.

But who are the White Helmets really? Are they a legitimate organization or pawns, funded for the purpose of regime change?

Let’s give it a Reality Check you won’t get anywhere else.
(6:12 min.)

Despite a recent U.S. funding freeze for humanitarian aid for Syria, the U.S. continues to fund the controversial group, known as White Helmets.

The White Helmets claim to be a neutral entity in Syria. They say they are just helping people caught in the middle of a civil war. But are they?

Follow the money and you will find numerous ties to government funding from not only the U.S., but the U.K., the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany.

Untangling these ties to the White Helmets is complicated, so stay with me.
According to their website, the Syria Civil Defense, nicknamed the White Helmets, formed in “late 2012- early 2013” as self-organized groups.

Realizing they needed training, 20 Syrians went to Turkey back in March 2013 to learn from a former British army officer named James Le Mesurier.

Le Mesurier has ties to the failed NATO intervention in Kosovo. He developed a training program for Syrians that included trauma care, command and control and crisis management courses.

He is credited for helping form the White Helmets’ structure and operations.

Le Mesurier was able to fund this training program through Mayday Rescue, his Netherlands-based non-profit funded by grants from the Dutch, British, Danish and German governments.

Now, this brings us to December 2013, when the U.K.-based PR machine backing the White Helmets was established.

It’s called the Voices Project, set up as a private limited company for public relations and communications activities.

Part of the Voices Project’s articles of incorporation state that the organization seeks to “influence public opinion” and “influence governmental and other bodies and institutions regarding reform … legislation and regulation.”

Who set up the Voices Project? The first listed director on the articles of incorporation is Jeremy Heimans, the co-founder and CEO of the global PR platform “Purpose” and a co-founder of controversial online activist network “Avaaz”.

Though Heimans stepped down from his position with the Voices Project in 2015, his connection to the project is worth noting. Here’s why.

In February 2014, New York-based “Purpose” listed a job posting for interns to “help launch a new movement for Syria.”

By March 2014, the Voices Project set up The Syria Campaign NGO, which they describe as “a human rights organisation that supports Syria’s heroes in their struggle for freedom and democracy.”

This, coinciding with the graduates of the Mayday Rescue training establishing new teams in Syria.

Six months later, in October 2014, a conference of these teams came together to establish the Syrian Civil Defense as an official, national organization. They then became known as the White Helmets, thanks to The Syria Campaign.

According to their website, the White Helmets have been directly funded by Mayday Rescue, and a company called Chemonics, since 2014.

Yet there’s evidence that both of those organizations started supporting the White Helmets back in early 2013, right around the time the White Helmets claim to have formed as self-organized groups.

Mayday Rescue, as we said, is funded by the Dutch, British, Danish and German governments. And Chemonics?

They are a Washington, D.C. based contractor that was awarded $128.5 million in January 2013 to support “a peaceful transition to a democratic and stable Syria” as part of USAID’s Syria regional program. At least $32 million has been given directly to the White Helmets as of February 2018.

The firm has been funded by USAID for years, and carries a record of failures in supporting so-called humanitarian interventions, including in Libya.

What you need to know is that first, this was only part one of our look at the White Helmets.

There are even more dots to connect here, including the relationship between USAID, Chemonics, Jeremy Heimans and Azaaz. We will make those connections in another episode of Reality Check.

But for today, let’s make this clear: there are very real questions about the authenticity of the voice of the White Helmets as representative of the Syrian people.

It is also clear that the White Helmets have ties to organizations that are being funded by governments that have been seeking, and right now continue to, seek to overthrow the Assad government and to establish a new regime in Syria.

And yet our media and government act as if the information coming from the White Helmets is coming from an impartial observer. When in fact, it appears to actually be coming from an organization that is being funded with an agenda to see the Syrian government overthrown.

This is the video here (I think). Zakharova is always a pleasure to watch, esp when she's demolishing western propaganda. ;-)

I like watching interviews with Maria Zakharova! She a very intelligent Lady and she is always "direct and to the point" on accountability issues. She leaves "no stone unturned".

Russian diplomat grills US State Department on White Helmets abrupt aid cutoff

Moscow would like to know the reasons for Washington’s decision to freeze funding for the White Helmets volunteer group, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.

"Fantastic news came today - the US Department of State has frozen funding for the White Helmets non-governmental organization active in Syria," she said. "What's wrong? Didn’t they like the last film? Maybe, there are some other reasons?" Zakharova added.

"In fact, we would like to know exactly how much money the White Helmets had received from the US government and governments of other countries, including the three states [the US, Great Britain and France - TASS] that carried out air strikes on Syria [on April 14]," the Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman said, adding that this issue was of particular importance as it could help understand "how this mechanism for producing false information operates."

Besides, in Zakharova’s words, "we do not know what the reason behind the funding freeze is, and whether the decision is final or if it’s funding would be resumed."

"This is a matter worth looking into, particularly by journalists, and I believe it is crucial," the diplomat concluded.

White Helmets Shared Buildings With Al-Nusra in Syria– Bolivian Filmmaker

Bolivian filmmaker, actress and activist Carla Ortiz, who has traveled across most of Syria, told Sputnik Mundo how the White Helmets operate in the country and why the intervention by certain Western countries is preventing Syria from reaching peace.

Carla Ortiz has visited most parts of the Arab country for the making of her film "Voice of Syria" in order to show the conflict from the point of view of its key victims — ordinary people. She is confident that their experience and stories contradict the narrative given in mainstream media.

Carla Ortiz brought her work and testimonies from Syrian citizens to Washington to show American senators those who are actually suffering as a result of the Western sanctions imposed against Syria. She noted, for example, that children in Syrian hospitals are unable to receive cancer treatment, due to the ban on the basic chemicals needed for it.

"Is it logical to claim that the president of Syria finds chemicals not to save children, but to use them in places where the war has already been won with conventional weapons? There is no logic in that," she said.

The streets of Aleppo shocked Carla Ortiz most of all. It turned out that many schools there had been occupied by al-Nusra* (al-Qaeda's* branch in Syria) and used as headquarters, together with the White Helmets — an NGO that claims to help and protect civilians in regions controlled by militants fighting the Syrian government.

"I saw how the White Helmets were sharing buildings with the al-Nusra extremist group, as if there was no problem with that. If you are an ordinary citizen, who has seen, what this group has done to your people, your family, raping your daughters and beheading people, you wouldn't share anything with them," she said.

Carla spoke to some volunteers with the White Helmets. According to them, at first they thought that they were going to save peoples' lives, but then realized that part of the White Helmets' assistance was directed at armed groups of opposition, which were not as moderate as they claimed.

Ordinary people, interviewed by Carla, claimed that the White Helmets "don't save citizens" — on the contrary — they even refused to help children in the hospitals. They went on to note that the White Helmets and al-Nusra worked together during the siege of Aleppo.

"The states that purportedly see themselves as the world's policeman need to understand better who these people are that filmed the video about the alleged chemical attack. [They] cynically support disinformation in order to continue bombings that devastate the country, which is trying to fight terrorism. The terrorism which the West is responsible for, as weapons that it supplies to the moderate opposition invariably end up in the hands of extremists," Carla said.

She believes that the only way to end the Syrian war is to listen to Syrians and not to envoys of foreign countries that stand for more intervention. Carla notes that now, even supporters of Syrian opposition forces are urging for an end to the bloody war. She is confident that spreading alternative information is a good way to do so.

London May Increase Support for White Helmets Operating in Syria - PM May

UK Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday that London might increase its support for the White Helmets non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in Syria amid the US decision to freeze their US funding.

"We recognize the very important and valuable work that the White Helmets are doing… They are, as he [Pennycook] says, doing this in horrendously difficult conditions. They are incredibly brave to be continuing with that work. We do support them, we will continue to support them, and my right honorable friend, the international development secretary will be looking at the level of that support in the future," May said.

During the parliament's session one of the lawmakers, Matthew Pennycook from the Labour Party, told May that the White Helmets continued to save lives of Syrian civilians despite permanent threats. He asked the prime minister whether the UK government was going to step up the funding for the organization.

CBS news agency reported last week, citing the leader of the controversial group that the US administration had halted the flow of US cash, which amounts to a third of their budget, had stopped in recent weeks, almost two months after their delegation was hosted by the US State Department in Washington, DC.

Damascus and Moscow accuse the White Helmets of being involved in an alleged provocation in the Syrian city of Duma, which was portrayed as a chemical attack of the Syrian government.

That was an interesting video you posted, and not unlike others that have been shown either. Having proceeded the next article, the UK's renewed support for the WH - support to do what is yet to be determined, the mockery is laid bare and thus the UK (and friends) must continue to bolster their narrative.

What the WH 2.0 will provide will depend on what the PTB do next.

For all to wait and see how active the senators get. However, good for Ortiz for shining another light and hopefully it lights up shills like Clooney for helping to galvanize American people via Hollywood around these networks of murdering thugs.

US Resumes Financial Aid To White Helmets
14.06.2018
On June 14, US President Donald Trump authorized the United States Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of State to allocate approximately $6.6 million to fund the Syrian Civil Defense, that is known as the “White Helmets,” and the UN’s Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM)

In an official press release, the U.S. Department of State stressed the US support for the controversial Syrian organization and described its acts as “heroic.”

“The United States Government strongly supports the White Helmets who have saved more than 100,000 lives since the conflict began, including victims of Assad’s chemical weapons attacks. These heroic first responders have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world and continue to be deliberately targeted by the Syrian regime and Russian airstrikes,” the U.S. Department of State said in its press release.

The U.S. Department of State suspended its financial support for the White Helmets on May 3. Back then, the US TV channel CBS reported that the Department of State was reviewing its support for the Syrian organization.

The U.S is not the only supporter of the White Helmets, radical groups such as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sahm (HTS), which is labeled by the U.S. as a terrorist organization, also back the organization to facilitate its work. Former leader of HTS Abu Jaber Shaykh and radical Saudi cleric Abdullah al-Muhaysini even stressed their support for the White Helmets in a public video, which was released last year.

The Syrian organization was also accused by Russia and the Damascus government of covering up militants’ crimes and of staging fake chemical attacks to provoke a U.S. military action against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). The most notable case was the alleged chemical attack in the district of Duma earlier this year.

Most of the US funds will likely find its way to the White Helmets centers in areas controlled by the former branch of al-Qaeda in Syria HTS and other al-Qaeda-affiliated groups. This poses a serious threat, especially that the U.S has no real mechanism to track these founds once they are delivered to the organization.
