Who drinks alcohol here and how much?

I mostly drink for social purposes.
Around here some people get unfriendly if you don't accept to have a drink with them. And I think there is a good reason for that, because you may not want to drink to avoid revealing your true nature or something. in vino veritas, as the saying goes.
So, I'll accept the drink offer in certain situations. One example would be if this is the first encounter with someone.

In answer to the thread title question: very little these days. In fact, now that I think about it, I quite naturally became a near teetotaller years ago when I sorted out my diet. Like a few others that have posted on the thread so far, I will occasionally have a glass of wine with a meal in a social situation (quite often with Italians, so, 'What ya gonna do?').

Humberman's podcast on alcohol a few years ago was really good. He mentioned that there are typically 3 different ways people react to alcohol:

1. A mostly negative reaction; flushing, vomitting, nausea, with even smaller amounts.

2. Feeling the effect, but will become tired after a few. Can easily stop drinking when they want.

3. Feeling the effect, but will tend to have a down/crashing sensation if they do not continue to drink more.
This was a good bit of information. I'm happy to say that even in my more 'thirsty' years as a yoot I still would have been firmly in the reaction no. 2 camp.
As to whether alcohol could be a medicine, I'm not sure. I understand that its objectively a poison that the body works hard to break down and get rid as quickly as possible, but that said, it seems to me that at least some of our response to alcohol is dependent on our spiritual state before we partake. Some people really do unleash their inner demons when they drink, for instance.

As Ark took a shot of Whiskey to block some attacks, i think if taken too much, it becomes the attack, it doesn't block the doors anymore, it does the opposite. Just a theory.
I've wondered about that advice from the C's and came to the tentative conclusion that their recommendation was specific to Ark in that specific circumstance (I believe the shot was to be taken after some vigorous exercise?). However, I'm open to the suggestion that a shot of whisky does something to aid in blocking attacks.
Just as an aside: if I recall accurately, Ouspensky describes Gurdjieff as consistently drinking Armagnac in their early meetings in ISOTM with no apparent negative effects.

IMHO, drinking red wine in moderation is an ideal way to benefit from higher resveratrol levels and polyphenols, as well as improved brain health, as red wine is a good antioxidant.

Organic wine is an excellent choice for a natural, flavorful, healthier, and Eco-friendly beverage.

And from the Vault, food for thought.
Session 31 May 1997
Q: (C) That's what I thought, it's like a code. (Ark) I think it's like when people can use, what is it, a finger code, you can somehow train, bypass conscious interference that way. (L) Yeah, that's what it is, it's bypassing your conscious damping. We all tend to just think our ways out of things. (Ark) But the interesting question is can one somehow disturb this monitoring? Is it something physical that can...

A: Sure, the issue is covering the many frequencies and shifts. White noise makers deal with some, but not all!

Q: (Ark) I was wondering if a shot of whiskey beat it. Like, you know, when I had this experiences in Göttingen and the advice was...(L) A shot of whiskey! So you want your shot of whiskey now? (laughter) (Ark) Sure, to prevent being monitored!

A: In some cases a shift in chemistry also means a shift in susceptibility, but not a cessation of the activity.

Q: (L) So it ain't gonna stop it, though you might reduce - temporarily - your susceptibility. (V) Well, a slug of whiskey? Wouldn't that be just a little too easy? (Ark) You know we are in a non-linear world so to become even a little less susceptible can mean a lot. (V) Right. (B) Is that justification? (laughter) (L) We've got some Southern Comfort. Next? (V) Just so I can get it out of the way because I've been wondering for months and months: I would like to get some information about the symbol that came to me one day in meditation, the ankh with the infinity sign vibrating in and out of the bulb. Where did the symbol come from? A: Your consciousness.

Session 14 September 2002
A: Yes.

Q: Can you tell me?

A: Body chemistry alteration.

Q: In what sense is there body chemistry alteration going on?

A: Brain wave factors.

Q: Is there something he can do for protection?

A: He soon will leave the area.

Q: Well, during the time he is there, how much damage can they do?

A: Probably not much.

Q: Is there any other step he can take other than going to the library or staying in his hotel?

A: Good idea!

Q: Anything else?

A: One shot of whiskey per day will help.

Q: Well, that is a bizarre thing to say! A shot of whiskey?! That will help his brain chemistry?

A: Some.

Q: What is this altering of his brain chemistry designed to do?

A: Befuddle.

Q: Well, I think it is working. Any other suggestion? Come on, we are you in the past! Help us out here!

A: Then you will know in the "future."

Was never a fan of it. One of my caregivers drank as a way to cope with trauma, as a way to disconnect from herself and some of her feelings. The problem was that as a young child I needed to feel connected to them to feel safe, and when she drank I couldn’t connect with her and felt some abandonment wounding there.

The thread reminds me of the recent video posting by the NewEarth youtube channel; in which Sylvie attempts to make her case for Alcohol being one of the most powerful weapons used by the 'Dark side' to sidetrack humans. Sylvie thinks and believes the 1 glass of red wine as a health benefit was promoted by the 'Dark Side'. She sites studies carried out by Vladimi Zhdanov who once appeared on Russian national television to detail his findings on Alcohol. The very next day alcohol sells in Russia dropped. Russian regions were getting their act together; but some government authorities view alcohol has a wonderful source of tax revenue therefore Vladimi Zhdanov hasn't been invited on national television since.

One study done was on some 'insects' (might be another test subject) either way the alcohol given to those 'insects' made the males feminine and less in pursuit of females; whereas the females became aggressive to the point of killing the male 'insects'.

When the topic of Alcohol presents itself, I recall Neville Goddard's words from the lecture Thinking Fourth Dimensionally:

Feast on the idea, become identified with the idea as though you were already that embodied state. Walk in the assumption that you are what you want to be. If you feast on that and remain faithful to that mental diet, you will crystallize it. You will become it in this world.

When I came back to New York in 1934, after three heavenly months in Barbados, I drank, I smoked, and did everything I had not done in years.

I remembered what Abdullah had said to me, "After you have proven this law you will become normal, Neville. You will come out of that graveyard, you will come out of that dead past where you think you are being holy. For all you are really doing you know, you are being so good, Neville, you are good for nothing"

I came back walking this earth a completely transformed person. From that day, which was in February 1934, I began to live more and more. I cannot honestly tell you I have always succeeded. My many mistakes in this world, my many failures would convict me if I told you that I have so completely mastered the movements of my attention that I can at all times remain faithful to the idea I want to embody.

But I can say with the ancient teacher, although I seem to have failed in the past, I move on and strive day after day to become that which I want to embody in this world. Suspend judgment, refuse to accept what reason and the senses now dictate, and if you remain faithful to the new diet, you will become the embodiment of the ideal to which you remain faithful.

If I had wanted to destroy myself, I would have chosen alcohol. That's how harmful it is. Every time I drink a little too much at social or family events, I feel the damage I'm doing to my body (palpitations, headaches, feeling sluggish, slurred speech, kidney pain). The problem is that alcohol has an incredible effect on me. Out-of-body experiences, disinhibition, uncontrollable laughter, feeling at one with my surroundings. The feeling of no longer having a body is exhilarating (no pun intended). So it's easy to see it as a unique sensory experience. The trouble is that I pay dearly for it, and the good news is that I can't hold my liquor at all. In the end, I drink in moderation when I'm with others and never alone at home.
