Why are so many beautiful Pointers abandon - given to kill shelter in the south?

I frequently visit Pointer Rescue dot org and see so many beautiful, intellegent, sweet Pointers just dumped.

What is it with you southern men that seem to use em, abuse em and dump them with nary a care?

I realize that the majority of people that visit this site are probably not the ones that do this type of thing, because we are talking moronic, heartless and just plain cruel and all of the people I have talked to here seem to be a step above the normal.

But this is bothering me.

I recently lost my pointer, Odie. We were privledged (and I mean that sincerly) to live with this extraordinary being for 15 years. We got him (as a throw away) when he was 4-5.

If you go to Pointer Rescue, you will see dozens upon dozens of beautiful Pointers that are just dumped like wads of paper into kill shelters with no care, no thought, no feeling and it's mainly in the south.

What is it with southern men? Are they that stupid and heartless?

Georgia seems to have a real problem with animal abandonment.

For God's sake, SPAY-NEUTER-RESCUE.

I realize it's just not Pointers, it's all dogs and cats - but I can only speak about my Pointer we had for 15 years.

He was the most obedient, affectionate and intellegent dog I have ever known. Why do people think they can just use a dog (and or cat) like a thing and just throw them away like their life means nothing?

The dog we are now adopting - rescuing was used as a breeder female for 5-6 years.

She came from Georgia.

The jerk didn't even have the decency to come out and feed her, he had a automatic feeder and watering system.

He would throw a male dog in with her, get her pregnant and take her puppies away as soon as they could be weaned.

When Lucy turned about 5 - this jerk from Georgia decides he wanted a better, flashier breed of Pointer so he takes Lucy to a kill shelter.

Pointer Rescue, rescued her before her time was up.

Her foster mother says that she snuck a bunch of tiny beanie babies into her crate and hid them under a blanket - (probaly to make up for the emotional pain of having her puppies taken from her).

What is it with humanity - the way we treat all the other inhabitants upon this planet?

We are mean to each other yes, but we're also mean to the helpless ones that have no voice and no legal rights.

Why?

I cannot understand people who do this. And it's not one or two, it's millions of people.

Don't tell me loss of a job, I lost my job and cut back on eating out, perfume, clothes, books, Dunkin Donut Coffee, a lot of little things I don't really need and saved enough to now adopt someone else's throw away animal.

Her name is Lucy and she is not a thing, a it - she is a living entity with feelings and emotions.

Sometimes I am really ashamed at being a part of the human species.

We are suppose to be smarter, more humane and yet at times, we're this planet's biggest problem.

Just curious as I notice most hunting dogs, Pointers in particular, are abandon mainly in the Southern United States. What is it with these southern men?

The jerk that had Lucy pent up in a cage for 5-6 years with a automatic feeder & water system should be stuffed into a cage and have the same thing done to him for 5-6 years.

Don't people follow the golden rule any more? "Do unto others (including animals) as you would want done unto you".

I can only afford to adopt one dog, there are several more really nice ones I saw that "their time is running short".

If you need a friend, a dog, unlike many humans, will never betray you, love you whether you are fat or thin, rich or poor. They don't care if you are a President or Janitor. They love unconditionally, which is more than I can say for most humans.

This is why it is so important to adopt - rescue a dog vs buying one from a breeder or pet shop.

Every dog that is bought from a breeder or pet shop is supporting these jerks.

When we first brought Odie into our vet, he stopped and looked at us and said, "How did you people come across such a beautiful dog?"

I said, "What do you mean?"

Dr. Pearl said, "This is a beautiful, beautiful pure bred Pointer, he's show quality".

Our Odie was really smart, I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe on how smart this dog was.

I talked to him a lot (he's the only one that really would listen to me) and like when we would say it's time to go to the v.e.t. - he would run and hide.

If I said, "Odie you need a bath". He would run and jump into the tub.

One night we came home from work and he had thrown up on the floor infront of the upstairs toilet - the lid had been closed. If the lid had been open?

He would wait anxiously at Christmas for his gifts, he would sit and wait and when we handed him his wrapped boxes, he would tear into them just like a two year old.

On and on I could tell you stories about the intellegence and sweetness of our Pointer.

He passed away July 12, 2010 and my heart still aches.

He never gave me the problems and heart ache my human children have.

He never asked for much except for walks, milk bones and a blue blanket I brought home (yes he came up and nudged it with his nose and looked at me asking me if he could have it).

Animals are not just things, like rocks.

All the dogs I have had have been death row doggies and all four of their ashes are now in my bottom drawer and will be buried with my ashes.

Don't buy from a breeder or pet shop - adopt, rescue, make a difference - save a life.

Perhaps it's because there are those who either deny (or have been denied through trauma) their own humanity. Or there are those who lack humanity (their access to what it is that makes us human) - psychopaths.
