WorldTruth Social Networking Site

Has anyone heard about this site? From google: "WorldTruth.org is a unique World Truth social networking site with No Ads, No Trackers, No Data Mining, Join the Social Networking Revolution Today!"

http://www.worldtruth.org/

It seems like it operates just like facebook but without many of the negative aspects. Here's a video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7ZpbC8QojY

Maybe it will be a good alternative to facebook?

Not yet heard of but thanks for sharing, Masamune.

I tested it quite thoroughly yesterday night. It is impressive indeed. No ads, trackers, etc. What's amusing is that it is almost identical with Facebook in terms of appearance and functioning as though they used Facebook's code. You can select the Facebook theme there, called ‘Facebookish.’ It even provides an API for developers. I'm wondering whether this is legal at all. It seems to be reversely engineered in some way or cloned.

If you read what people are into there, you encounter all lot of conspiracy and ‘politricks’ stuff. Look at its title.
The network consists of roughly 3,000 members at present.

I can't say whether it is worth it or not. At least it does not appear to be as bad as big companies' and larger organisations' social networks. Of course, it is less popular.

I think you just said a lot. It has virtually no "reach," and almost everything I could find about it was promotion originating from the site itself. At this point I have no reason to believe anything I have read about it. One of the few "outside" references I found about it was this forum topic!

I think this kind of site will target and appeal to a specific kind of person. With that in mind, it is potentially dangerous.

In other forums which exist to bring like-minded people together, the moderators, owners and group members are known to each other, and the relationship between all will build over time through day-to-day interaction. Yes this is a unique forum which is well run and there are many examples of others which aren't. Apart from trolls, lurkers, and people who join and don't interact, everyone generally knows everyone's business and if someone doesn't fit in it will either immediately stand out or be revealed in time. As a very general assessment, the purpose of the forum is known to all.

But for a social networking site such as 'WorldTruth' which appears to be a clone of something which already exists, I would be cautious in joining. What is the purpose of it? Who is running it? What is their agenda? From the 'Privacy Notice':

MikeJoseph82,

it could certainly be agreed that a community consisting of like-minded people only won't grow that much and reach global attention or awareness the way Facebook and Google have had. They will remain exactly this, a small- or middle-sized community, dangerous or not. Such an approach (attracting people with similar interests and orientations) is a barrier to expansion. One has to provide a rather general service in order to address the majority of people. But if you look at WorldTruth, you see that they aren't of neutral orientation. Its title is even the first thing one would notice. I mean, what is the first image in your mind if your hear or read “WorldTruth”, conspiracy theories perhaps or 9/11?

But for a social networking site such as 'WorldTruth' which appears to be a clone of something which already exists, I would be cautious in joining. What is the purpose of it? Who is running it? What is their agenda?
Good question. That applies to any alternatives. I saw recently a thread about Paypal and its alternative(s) here. There is always the question, how good is the alternative, by whom is it being run, what's their agenda, etc.?
Though, technically, they have cloned Facebook very well!

They have either a bad lawyer or created their privacy policy themselves ;). The personal pronoun “my” fits only for personal blogs and websites. An organisation should use “we” instead, no matter how many staff members are really in charge, be it only one person. There are general phrases that use “we” and “us” like “contact us”, etc. It shouldn't be mixed with “my”, of course.

If what he said on the site is to believed, it was started by an unemployed person looking for something to do.

I guess I don't believe it.

I am World Truth on my site www.WorldTruth.Org.

I just copied the privacy disclaimer from somewhere on the net, and don't have the literary know-how to rewrite it, but can use your example above and do so; hoping that it is correct.

There's no hidden agenda. There are many social scripts out there that one can use to create their own social network. We've put a lot of work into our coding to make it safe and remove all of the tracking mechanisms in the API's for Fascistbook, Twitter, Google, etc.

There are a lot of conspiracy theorists on the site, but it serves as a nice platform for people who are constantly seeking the truth in whatever subject to communicate on a social network without violating their privacy and security.

You can register on WT without verifying your email, with a fake name, date of birth, fake everything, and we could care less. If we ever got a subpoena we would merely alert the user, and if they chose to delete their account, it deletes everything immediately.

Our backups run 2x per day, and they are incremental r-sync'd so if a user removes their account, it is subsequently removed from our backups.

Hope ya'all consider a different view on our social network. It isn't for everyone, but some people enjoy it.

As for me...? ---Well I must tell the truth, I'm still semi-unemployed. I work various temp positions, but things are tough out there, and I'm 41, with various physical limitations, so I can't just run out and be a human fork lift like I could when I was in my 20's.

My name is Anthony Jordan, and if you have any other questions, you can reach me at: [removed number to protect your privacy] . Have a great weekend/day/life.

just hopped on and it seems very legitimate. on the sign up page is a declaration against tracking and government agents un lawfully pulling info. llc and everything so kudos masamune!

I checked it out a bit, and it seems like a good start, but very buggy with Firefox. Friend Requests, Notifications, Create List and Message scripts don't work...at least not with Firefox 16.0.2.

Everything seems to work in IE, but who's going to launch Microshyt to open one board? I'll check back in awhile and see if they've gotten any of the bugs fixed.

Seems to work okay with Firefox 19.0.2 (and version 20.0)- might be worth updating your Firefox?

Yeah, I thought of that and just updated to 20.0...and they still don't work. I have Java enabled, and ad-block disabled. Still looking for why the drop downs won't work?

BTW, they work fine here, Fakebook, etc? Bizarre

OK, I restart with all my add-ons disabled, and everything works fine, so it's evidently one of my dozens of add-ons. Oh joy.

The problem appears to have been with "ad-block" Even though I'd already disabled it, I had to restart the browser for the changes to take affect.

Apparently "exclusions" are not working in ad-block?

I have firefox 19.0 and it works fine. probably you want uninstall , reboot and reinstall. it's a pain to install addon's though.

I figured it out, one add-on at a time.
