Thought to post this radio interview (51 min), just listened to today, about a writer I had not been aware of, and with his other books, released a book titled 'Good Lord Bird'. McBride's seems to have compiled a great deal of research and writes about John Brown's 1859 revolt against slavery at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. I profess not to know a great deal about this man and event, yet the author explains things in an apparent well researched and written way. People in the U.S. may have a different understanding, yet he says a great deal of interesting things in the interview, with context, both personal and historical.

James McBride was the surprise winner of the 2013 National Book Award, for his novel The Good Lord Bird. It's a comic treatment of controversial abolitionist John Brown, who led a violent crusade against slavery.
