Xanthelasma

My doctor didn't seem to be too concerned about my overall blood test results, other than the elevated levels of LDL. But I was wondering, if I wanted further tests done to check the condition of my liver, what specific type of tests should I be requesting from him?

While you go on ketosis, your vitamin C level needs will drop drastically, but I would try taking your max possible levels for awhile. Now it might be 8 or 10 grams, and it might drop to 2 or 4 with ketosis.

Vitamin C mega-dose pioneers claim that negative side effects of familial hypercholesterolemia were reverted with enough C intake. It has to do with the protective effect of Vitamin C on blood vessels, collagen, capillaries and the endothelium.

I remember coming across with specialized lab tests for the main mitochondrial functional pathways and liver detox pathways, but it would be probably best to find out with the lab. Some of these tests might be available only in main cities.

I'm wondering if IV Vit C would clear something like that up, too?

Yeah, I was just reading Dr. Klenner and Linus Pauling information on this topic just this moment. They say that cholesterol levels in the blood of subjects vary with the amount of C used. In one patient, cholesterol was lowered 42% in 6 weeks with oral intake from 10 to 20 grams per day. They say that vitamin C was critical especially in those with a family genetic tendency for high cholesterol levels. IV vitamin C in high doses was used to lower cholesterol levels and they said that atherosclerosis was a deficiency in vitamin C since it was critical for the health of the collagen in the arterial wall. These are reports from a long time ago, the 40s. We know vitamin C is crucial in endothelial health and it is oxidized LDL cholesterol which is a problem, not necessarily high cholesterol levels.

So IV vitamin C would be a great thing to do to normalize and restore the health of the endothelium and "sanitize" the circulating cholesterol levels. It will also probably reduce cholesterol levels to a more normal level (say around 250 or so) as it was seen in the 1940s.

I would definitely give it a try.

Can't find the source of this info as I printed the document, but here is Dr. Klenner's experience on vitamin C and related therapies http://www.doctoryourself.com/klennerpaper.html

He has at least 4 case reports where he healed multiple sclerosis! The information is fascinating, especially IV vitamin C for deadly viral infections. People will be cleared out of measles within hours while using megadoses of vitamin C. It is amazing. I'll be posting more about it in the Vitamin C thread.

I wonder if there is any list of places/clinics that do this therapy in the U.S. and Canada?

Sure! There is a list here by countries: http://orthomolecular.org/resources/pract.shtml

Here is the US, listed by states: http://orthomolecular.org/resources/pract.shtml#us

And Canada, by states: http://orthomolecular.org/resources/pract.shtml#can

Very interesting. My normal daily dose of Vit C is 5-10g of Ascorbic Acid powder dissolved in water and consumed during the day. I'll try upping the dose until I reach saturation, starting with double the amount.

One of the presenters at Ancestral Health Symposium 2012, Maelán Fontes (Food and Western Disease Beyond Nutrients: Antinutrients), mentioned in passing a potential issue with vitamin C supplementation causing harm. At least I think he did -- I wish there were a transcript. I will have to listen to this talk again at some point.

I would not be surprised if your tolerance is much much higher than the rest of us in the same diet. If it is a high intake, all is pretty much used and therefore needed.
