Xylitol from the EU?

Here's a UK shop that has a good price, but they only ship to the billing address on your credit card: http://www.britannia-healthonline.co.uk/acatalog/xylobrit.html

Here's a place in France:

http://www.ribesnature.com/xylitolsucre/index.html

You don't have to register for an account, and payment is through PayPal, which allows you to specify a different billing address if necessary. You don't actually need to have a PayPal account, which is nice.
:)

Help!! Could someone who speaks French tell me if this is a fishing attempt?

From what I could tell, shipping is free for 5 kilos. I've already received an order confirmation, which quotes shipping as 0.00 with an order number that doesn't appear on the above e-mail. I've also received a payment confirmation from paypal. The e-mail from paypal has a professional design with 4 colors and header and it's from paypal's e-mail address, whereas the above e-mail was just regular black times new roman font, and it was supposedly mailed from ribes e-mail address. I'm pretty sure it's bogus, but I don't want prevent my order from being shipped.......

Hi Miss Issness,

Here is a quick line by line translation of the Email you received.

Hello (my e-mail address)

Gaetan Ribes (_ribes-distribution@wanadoo.fr) would like to receive your payment through Paypal.

NB : Good evening, after the payment of the shipping fees, your 5 kg xylitol order will be shipped on Wednesday.
Regards, Ribes nature

So apparently you have to pay 20,5 euros of shipping fees (that's not a shocking price for a 5kg international shipment).

Thanks for your help Belibaste. Ribes has since sent me an invoice asking for the shipping fee, apparently because it's going to Italy. It's strange that the correct shipping cost didn't appear on the original invoice I paid through paypal. After all, I entered the shipping address.

Unfortunately, the only reason I ordered 5 kilos was to get free shipping. I don't think the website indicated it was only free to France, but maybe I missed it. I tried writing Ribes in English asking them to just send 3 kilos + shipping, and refund the balance, but I didn't get any response. I've also tried to pay the balance through paypal from the link in the e-mail, but they require a password, which I don't have.

I don't really want to sign up for a paypal account just to pay the shipping. This is what I wrote in the e-mail:

Hello,

If shipping to Italy is not free, please reduce my order to 3 kilos + shipping and refund the balance.

Thank you,

I thought that since Xylitol is being suggested for use that this WARNING FOR DOGS ought to be brought to the attention of those with pets.

If it has been produced elsewhere, and I have missed it, I apologize in advance.

Wikipedia said:
Dogs which have ingested foods containing high levels of xylitol (greater than 100 milligram of xylitol consumed per kilogram of bodyweight) have presented with low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) which can be life-threatening.[27] Low blood sugar can manifest as loss of coordination, depression, collapse and seizures as soon as 30 minutes after ingestion.[28][29] Intake of very high doses of xylitol (greater than 500 - 1000 mg/kg bwt) has also been implicated in liver failure in dogs, which can be fatal.[30] Animal protection groups are reporting that xylitol may also be lethal to animals other than dogs.

There's also quite a write-up here about dogs and Xylitol. A woman tells about her dog that ate 2 - 5 sticks of Orbit gum and was in very bad shape.

However, it is great for people, even being able to fight osteoporosis.

I just want to be sure the puppies are safe. :)

Not only xylitol, but chocolate is very bad for dogs. We have a list of items toxic to pets on our refrigerator.

recently i looked into xylitol because i wanted mints or chewing gum that contain it.
here in austria none of the available brands at the major supermarket chains contains xylitol, only aspartame. even in a health shop i only found gum that is partially sweetened with xylitol.

so i ordered chewing gum sweetened with 100% xylitol from this site:
http://www.topcaredent.ch/en/index2.htm

service and information via email worked completely satisfactory.

i still think it is very odd that i've never come across a 'caries conspiracy' (even a ludicrous one) - for pretty much every other common ailment there are dozens of different theories.
and dentistry is of course a huge industry...

there must be a way to get rid of streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus, the bacteria responsible for caries.

Hi,

Just wanted to report back that I've gotten a response from Ribes, and if I've understood correctly the problem has been resolved.

I also found the information regarding shipping charges to other countries in the general sales conditions section of the web-site.

In the UK, a brand of xylitol called Perfect Sweet is available from Holland and Barrett, Sainsbury's and a few other stores. Details on the Perfect Sweet website at _http://www.perfectsweet.co.uk.

Anybody know a good place to buy xylitol in the EU? I know it's legal, but can't seem to find it.

I don't know where are you from and where you want to buy and of course what quantity, but you can buy clear xylitol (real birch sugar) on http://www.ksylitol.eu
They sell abroad also.
Page in Polish, but send an email in english ang you'll get the answer.

And in France, one can get it from here:
http://www.bioticas.com/fr/?inc=produnits&id=120&gclid=CLaAktL425gCFcyR3wodfl6scw

Or here:
http://www.rizen-sans-gluten.com/
-- a super site for wheat free / dairy free products. (though at this time she's waiting for a new xylitol delivery, which is apparently blocked at the customs)
