Siegfried’s Funeral Music is a pivotal orchestral interlude from Götterdämmerung, the final opera of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen cycle. Composed between 1869 and 1874, it follows the tragic death of Siegfried, who is murdered by Hagen in Act Three. The music, lasting approximately 7 to 9 minutes, serves as a somber funeral procession as Siegfried’s body is carried through the forest.

People might know it from the movie Excalibur (1981), underscoring Arthur’s death. However, Nazi Germany used it in radio broadcasts to mark the deaths of prominent National Socialists, including Adolf Hitler (May 1, 1945).
