YouTube videos don't load in Firefox

I noticed that YouTube vids don't load nor play in my Firefox browser (fully updated, 64-bit) but there's no problem in Chrome browser.

Firefox displays the message 'This video isn't available - Error code : 0'

The problem is occurring is multiple threads, e.g. Krzysztof Jackowski - Polish Clairvoyant, or Session 28 June 2025

I'm at a loss for an explanation.

Edit: Restarting the browser after clearing the cache made no difference. Also being logged in, or not, gives the same result.

I've had similar experience when using firefox , but i had a bit of add-ons for privacy and whatnot , maybe that's the cause ?. A couple of months ago switched to another browser , now the only issue is getting Brazilian Portuguese audio with youtube playback in the forum links XD.

I use uMatrix mainly and that app has never caused any problems in playing multiple videos. It's the thing I always check first to see if any additional permissions need activation for proper functioning - which wasn't the case here.

So I don't think the cause would dwell in there.

Anyway, thanks for trying !

I think you need to enable DRM content.

The steps that might fix it for FireFox are :

  1. Click the menu button
    Fx89menuButton
    and select Settings.
  2. In the General panel, go to the Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content section.
  3. Make sure the box next to Play DRM-controlled content is check marked.
Also make sure that the Google Widevine plugin is activated:

  1. Click the menu button
    Fx89menuButton
, click Extensions and themes and select Plugins.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager Plugins panel, click the ellipsis (3-dot) icon next to Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.
  3. Ensure that Always Activate is selected in the drop-down menu.

I find that when I click on a Youtube video on the threads I get the message that I need to log in to play it. I am already logged in to Youtube. I can only see it by clicking on the "watch in Youtube" and then it works when I go to the site. This is on Firefox and has only been happening very recently.

I've had the same issues recently with Brave , but not always , sometimes it just works eh , even if not logged to youtube as well.

I went to your linked threads above and played several of the videos and they worked just fine. I updated my Firefox yesterday, seems like they have an update every other day.

This appears to have been the problem cause for me. I daily check for updates in Firefox browser but yesterday there wasn't one available.
However today there was one but I now had to manually check for it expressly as my regular update apps didn't signal its presence.

Anyway, all vids do play properly once again - so problem solved.

Thanks to everyone for their prompt reaction.

Well...it seems I've been too optimistic since now -just a few hours later- the videos won't play or even appear anymore. So the remedy was a very short lived one, it appears. Although I don't know why.

I've also checked the DRM-rights and the Widevine issue and found it was duly enabled in my Settings parameters.

Yes, thank you for the reminder but I will leave that for a later date when I have more time to deeply delve into that option.

I'm on my laptop ATM which I will not use the next two days when I switch to my desktop that may not be plagued with this issue (fingers crossed). We'll see...

I googled 'firefox This video isn't available - Error code : 0'
and there seems to be something about that since 2 days ago or so.
- AddBlockers, or other add-ons might cause problems (or rather google/youtube causes you problems when you use them)
- incognito mode might work (probably because it doesn't use you add-ons)
You might check this reddit thread to see if you find anything helpful:

You don't write what operating system you use, and what version of FF you installed. Anyway. The problem may be because:
a) the codec library are not compatible with your Firefox (solution come back to older Firefox)
b) Mozillla release web browser with bug (solution is go to Mozilla forum and ask them for tips).

TLDR: I use two different web browsers. Latest Firefox version for online banking and html email, and old version of Vivaldi for YouTube.
