In 2003, 26 people raped a 13 year old girl. Turkish court's decision : "it happened with her consent"
This grim incident happened eight years ago, in 2003. N.C (this poor girls full name is unknown to the public) was 13 years old then. She was sold by two women to 26 men and those 26 psychopaths raped her. The poor girl had to have 4 surgeries after this. Now she is 21 and has lots of psychological problems. The juristic case was going on for 8 years and this week the court decided that -as a summary- the intercourse between this poor child and 26 sickos happened with her consent. So most of them are free now or will be free in a couple of years.
I am very very angry like many others in Turkey.

I've joined a FB group which aims to make this shameful and inhuman decision of the Turkish court internationally public and put some pressure on the judiciary system and the lawmakers for taking this awful decision back. Here is the declaration of the group (it's being translated into several languages) :
I would appreciate if at least some forumites share this statement on their FB page.

OPEN LETTER TO HUMAN BEINGS
When she was sold by two women to have intercourse with 26 men most of whom were public servants in 2002, the 13 year-old N.C. made us question our humanity. According to Article 103 of the Turkish Criminal Code children under 15 are not old enough to comprehend sexual harassment therefore there is no need to seek their consent.
By subjecting these sexually abused children to a court case and interrogating them with incomprehensible intensity, labelling them guilty – as it happened with their consent- feels like raping them second time around is torture and a crime of humanity. Moreover by offering the rapists of the child ‘a good behaviour concession’ shames us even more.
Nowhere in Europe where Turkey yearns to belong sexually abused children are not even sent for a physical check to stop adding to their trauma.
Unfortunately this case is neither the first nor the only case in Turkey. It is time to stop this. Sexually abused children have not been protected enough in the Turkish Criminal Code that came into effect in 2005. It is the duty of the government to make this issue the first item on their agenda and do whatever is necessary to do away with this shameful reality.
Judges who are to enforce the inadequate laws should also not become scapegoats. The Government, which is capable of passing hundreds of legislation through the Parliament in any given night can amend how these crimes are punished in a very short time. It is our right to expect this statute from the Parliament in the name humanity.
We the undersigned want to appeal to the consciences of who call themselves ‘human beings’. We need to live in peace in society and need impartial and independent Coroner’s Office and Fair Judiciary to raise our children. Turkey has to stop this bleeding. We invite everybody to be sensitive and ask our community to tackle this taboo and expect the international community to pursue this issue.
