Veron Emilio is 19 and gained popularity this week for showing a picture of a meteorite that was said at first, resulted in the early hours of Monday in Monte Grande the tremendous explosion that caused the collapse of a warehouse and two houses . A woman died there 43 years and eight residents were injured. The fact is officially attributed to a gas leak from an oven pizza trade that worked on the site. For that reason, a picture displayed at the wrong time, Veron was imprisoned for 12 hours on Tuesday, along with his brother Jonathan, 18. "False witness", told the media, but the police never told the reason for his arrest.
The photo, in reality, as he tells us, had been taken by her younger sister (Maria Soledad, six years) two weeks before the tragedy and showed a red object that fell from the sky. Veron showed them the image to the media only with the intention of graphs that may have fallen. The data is spread with the speed of light and so was he ended up arrested. In an interview with PROFILE, Emilio told his story, still convinced that "something" fell from the sky.
"That morning was in my backyard with my brother Jonathan. We heard the explosion and ran to see what had happened, "he recalls. Emilio lives in a humble house three blocks from where it all happened. "The first thing we did upon arrival was to help bring people from the rubble, was a disaster," he said. The blast was at two in the morning and Veron, along with his brother, spent the morning helping the survivors.
Hours later, when the media had already arrived on the scene, Veron was the picture you had in your phone to a television movilero. "I told him I had been another day, but that looked like what neighbors told me they saw before it exploded," he said. "Then there were other journalists and I made it show on camera." After that, the youth was approached by five police officers and forced to go to the detachment of the neighborhood to explain. "I do not want to go and they forced me, my friends tried to stop them and told them to shut up, that had nothing to do with it," he explains.
Once at the police office, Veron was not treated very nice. "They asked me to tell them what was that photo and said I could get to spend a year in jail. I was detained from half past nine until ten at night, all the time I said I had to wait for the fiscal Lomas de Zamora (Andrea Nicoletti), but never arrived and, besides, I had to break my work, "he lamented. Emilio masonry does odd jobs and painting with his brother, and he could not finish high school, he was a regular at the place exploded, where he was to buy pizzas and invoices. That day at the station he was held incommunicado, not allowed to go to the bathroom, he kept the phone, a ring that so far not been returned. He says the police told the truth, that the photo had taken his sister two weeks ago. He is convinced that "they want to cover everything that happened."
On Friday, before the interview with this newspaper, Veron was visited by "a member of the Air Force", who asked him details of what he saw and how he got the picture. Before leaving he suggested "not to comment further and to get a good lawyer." Such pressures, more detention at the police station today makes you feel afraid. But despite the fears and the pressure continues to hold, along with all the neighbors of Esteban Echeverría (seems to be unanimity on this), that what caused the explosion was "something that fell from heaven" (see box).
