AHA claim: Coconut Oil is as bad as Tallow and Butter!!!

Some of you may have read or heard of a new report that claimed coconut oil is as bad as animal fats. Dr. Mercola has this to say,
USA Today announced the AHA's advisory with the nonsensical headline "Coconut Oil Is About as Healthy as Beef Fat or Butter." Why, yes, it is! But here they're trying to say that all of these are unhealthy, which is altogether backward and upside-down.

I didn't see the article up on SOTT and thought it might be a good addition to Health and Wellness. In an earlier part of the article Mercola even manages to take a dig at Flat Earthers,
If you've followed the news lately, you will have seen bold headlines declaring coconut oil dangerous, and that you should switch from butter to margarine to protect your heart health! How is this even possible? It's akin to the flat Earth theory that inexplicably gained traction in the 21st century despite clear and indisputable proof that we indeed live on a planetary sphere.

Brilliant.

The mainstream media would have people believe it is as bad as tallow and butter, while actually, the word 'bad' needs to be switched with 'good'. So, it's just playing with the MSM's headline, because for people in the know the headline makes it obvious immediately that coconut oil is good, if it's listed along with the other two non-villains. Hope that makes sense. ;)

I modified the headline to better reflect the perspective of the forum and thread.

Thank you. I was not suggesting coconut oil is bad. It is a suggestion for a SOTT article regarding recent claims that coconut oil is bad and Mercola provides some evidence that it is not the case. I'm sorry if that was not clear. The headline was an AHA claim. Thank you, Laura for for the clarification..

Yes, I completely agree. My initial reaction was, "Yeah, ok, tallow is good, so..." But I have had several conversations regarding the recent headline and I thought it might be an important article for folks to see that this is basically fake news. And, yes, I guess I'm guilty of using click-bait. The headline I used is the headline we might see in the news, not my opinion. My opinion is that if coconut oil is "as bad as" beef fat, it is a good source of fatty acids. I thought that was clear with the article and my comment but I am sorry it was misleading.

I guess I just thought it would be obvious after reading the article, with the added background of where the forum stands on healthy fats, that coconut oil was just getting a faulty profile. I thought it was humorous they should paint coconut oil in a bad light by comparing it to other healthy fats, and Mercola makes a strong case that it is a silly claim. The "news" was faulty. Anyway, I was being cheeky and not clear. Sorry.
