Just wanted to recommend the following show in case there are people who haven't seen it. Actually, I read the books, but started watching the series only recently after being highly recommended to do it. And this show is indeed really great on many levels!

And not only because Alf Wight (James Herriot) was an integral part of the production and made sure that all the cases from his books and the attitude (especially the veterinary practice involved) would be done in an exact and professional way (you can even see calving and rectal examinations on the screen, yep). But also because this series is full of various examples of external consideration and how to handle difficult or impossible people.

It also shows personal integrity and kindness of the characters, so it surely not surprising that it was super popular at the time, and also acted as an inspiration for many aspiring veterinarians. Beside that, it is full of cute animals, and is also very funny. In my opinion, a good example of positive dissociation.

And just a note, that I was able to find full series on YT, but not sure if it is legal. On the other hand, it doesn't look illegal, and they are not being removed. But just in case, I am surely not going to put the link here. ;)

All Creatures Great and Small

All Creatures Great and Small is a British television series based on the books of the British veterinary surgeon Alf Wight, who wrote under the pseudonym James Herriot. In 1977, the BBC tasked producer Bill Sellars with the creation of a television series from Herriot's first two novels, If Only They Could Talk and It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet, using the title of the 1975 film adaptation.

Chimimg in with my recommendation too. I remember watching this years ago- a friend of mine at school who really wanted to be a vet (and is one now) used to watch it. I watched quite a few episodes and came to love the characters and especially James - the stories make you laugh and cry. The English countryside is stunning and it is a great show for families to watch together. I haven't read the books, I dare say they'd be great too :)

This is really a very very good series, very funny also. I also read the books, but the series is as good as the books. Every character is well play, and you can see many, many animals and how a good vet is dealing with them. There is also the scenery that is very beautiful and I agree, lot of compassion, lot of human and animal understanding. If you feel depressed or sad it is a perfect series to give you energy and love.

Keit,
Thanks for information about TV show. I did not know about it until now.
I haven't watched any show yet, but when my children were young, we read all of the James Herriot's books.
And we laughed, talking about it constantly, and recommended to all of my friends and their children.
Certainly books and TV show will gives heartwarming experience to everyone.

Keit,
I am so glad you brought up that this show can be watched on YT. I read all the books when I was young and watched it back in the 90's when it was shown on PBS. I lived on a farm at the time and my life revolved around animals. I love the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. I have wanted to watch it with my husband who isn't acquainted with the James Herriot stories but is also an animal lover. I looked to buy the videos on Amazon but they are not cheap. So thank you for the heads up.
