American psycho?

If any of you all have not seen American Psycho part 2, it is very much worth watching. The protaganist is female in this one. I thought it was better than the first one, actually.

I think American Psycho is a masterpiece, American Psycho part 2 can't keep up with the first one, not a bit! (just my opinion)

It is just a presonal prefernce, actually. I really enjoyed the first film. I just though that some of the mannerisms and actions of the 2nd film's character gave a very real look into how a psychopath's mind works. I do not necessarily think that the storyline was the best in the world, but some of the subtleties were well done. It would have been nice if it did not revole around murder, as that is an extreme that sticks in the public's mind, but the portrayal of lack of concience was excellent.

I liked American Psycho quite a bit. Mostly from art point of view, as it was very surreal descent into a dark mind.

I agree with this

I never watched the 2nd one but the original movie blew me away when I first watched it. And back then... I didn't know anything about psychopaths except that they're mostly murderers, etc..

Well IMO 2nd part is not worth watching, it has nothing to do with riveting insight into humanoid's mind as seen in 1st part. In fact I thought the way they used character from the first part to continue the story was unimaginative and totally lame.

Nothing really makes sense in this movie - none of the characters, none of the story, it is poorly filmed, unconvincing and pretty boring. Sort of Criminal minds meets Glee club.

With apologies to posters who praised it - I am not a movie critic just connoisseur, and this is my personal impression FWIW ;)

thank you Keit for starting this thread, i didn't knew about this film till i found this thread ,i just got the movie and will watch tonight from what i understood from all who participated at the discussion whom i also thank ,it seems a good opportunity to see an "image" of a psychopath and to gain a little bit more knowledge about psychopathy. The are many paths to knowledge. :)

I hated the film when I saw it, years ago. It left me deeply disturbed and feeling "icky", like I couldn't shower it out of my mind. I usually have the same visceral reaction against most psychopath/horror films...

It's long time ago I watched this one and back then I did not know much about psychopathy. I should watch it again I guess.

But I remember the (who has the best) business card scene which is hilarious ('Oh my God! It even has a watermark'):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoIvd3zzu4Y

Bateman takes out his wallet and pulls out a card.

PRICE
(Suddenly enthused)
What's that, a gram?

BATEMAN
New card. What do you think?

McDermott lifts it up and examines the lettering carefully.

McDERMOTT
Whoa. Very nice. Take a look.

He hands it to Van Patten.

BATEMAN
Picked them up from the printers yesterday

VAN PATTEN
Good coloring.

BATEMAN
That's bone. And the lettering is something called
Silian Rail.

McDERMOTT
(Envious)
Silian Rail?

VAN PATTEN
It is very cool, Bateman. But that's nothing.

He pulls a card out of his wallet and slaps it on the
table.

VAN PATTEN
Look at this.

They all lean forward to inspect it.

PRICE
That's really nice.

Bateman clenches his fists beneath the table, trying to
control his anxiety.

VAN PATTEN
Eggshell with Romalian type.
(Turning to Bateman)
What do you think?

BATEMAN
(Barely able to breath, his voice a croak)
Nice.

PRICE
(Holding the card up to the light)
Jesus. This is really super. How'd a nitwit like you get so
tasteful?

Bateman stares at his own card and then enviously at
McDermott's.

BATEMAN (V.O.)
I can't believe that Price prefers McDermott's card to mine.

PRICE
But wait. You ain't seen nothin' yet.

He holds up his own card.

PRICE
Raised lettering, pale nimbus white...

BATEMAN
(Choking with anxiety)
Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Paul Owen's card.

Price pulls a card from an inside coat pocket and holds it
up for their inspection: "PAUL OWEN, PIERCE & PIERCE,
MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS." Bateman swallows, speechless.
The sound in the room dies down and all we hear is a faint
heartbeat as Bateman stares at the magnificent card.

BATEMAN (V.O.)
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness
of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark...

His hand shaking, Bateman lifts up the card and stares at it
until it fills the screen.

He lets it fall. The SOUND RETURNS TO NORMAL.

CARRUTHERS Is something wrong? Patrick...you're sweating.
