Are Americans a broken people?

Will want to discuss something I came accross in this SOTT article found here: http://www.sott.net/articles/show/199089-Are-Americans-a-Broken-People- . The "abuse syndrome". Have done a quick check in Google with this word but found nothing significant going along with the article view.
Actually, it seems to me that in my country we are also suffering of this syndrome. It often baffled me to see people who are unable to satisfy their most basic needs do nothing to change the situation causing it, even by only organizing themselves in small communities to create alternatives to missing state services. It's just as if we have no more collective creativity. And what is still curious is instead of uniting together to try to relieve the pain, individualism and materialism tend to become the norm. It seems like people just don't want to think, to change their situation; they just accept this order of things while it's obvious it's not favourable to them. Don't know if this situation can be identified with the "abuse syndrome" though.
Will apreciate to receive your view, additional info regarding this "abuse syndrome".

I just finished reading this article you mentioned.

They nailed it, bro. I live in america, and you know what? They're right.

I don't even HAVE a high school diploma dude, senior year I pretty much gave up, and i honestly believe school was contributing to a detiorating mental state, I learned very, very little during high school. To be honest, the crap you put up with at a "real job" isn't worth it to me right now.
That's why i'm still in food, but more fun imo.

I especially agree with this:

Commericalism of Damn Near Everything: While spirituality, music, and cinema can be revolutionary forces, the gross commercialization of all of these has deadened their capacity to energize rebellion. So now, damn near everything - not just organized religion - has become "opiates of the masses."

We've created a country of people who think their dollars can buy happiness, spending money on so many useless things.
Sitting in front of the television instead of being creative or intellectual, i know too many people who do this. No desire for anything else,
just junk food, television, and whatever other unproductive activity. Surfing youtube for stupid videos of dancing chipmunks or something.

I rarely have other people talk to me about something they LEARNED. People are so hopeless now, they just go about their business.

Hi Marc-Aurélius,

If you are from Congo, ex-Zaïre, then I think that one could easily talk about multi-abuse thru generations. Do I have to write down the timeline of the sufferation the Congolese have endured ever since Léopold :scared:, the king of Belgium to the PTB/Tutsie(Havila) invasion?

It is not my endeaviour to analyse Congo before Léopold since we have almost no data. Léopold didn't come to learn more about the local populationS, interact with them, but to pillage. Your ancestors (if you have a black skin) were not considered as humans and were subjected to the worst treatments. It has not stoped ever since...

Talking about abuse syndrom?

Respect

I agree. However I have looked up dancing chipmunks...well...for the kiddos. ;)

I KNEW IT! No, seriously, I put that in there because i've seen people do it.

There is a serious contrast between me and my old friends now because they're still doing the same old thing, and I am trying to do all this stuff to

"fix" myself, and they are still looking for beer on the weekends...tragic.

I think a lot can be gleaned about the state of the American mind from the TV programming that's presented as "news/current events".
I see networks such as CBS, NBC, and ABC offering utterly moronic early morning wake up shows such as "Today" and "Good Morning America", where the hosts stand outside the studio and manipulate crowd reactions.
Everything is carefully scripted.
All these adult crowds behave like child imbeciles, screaming with glee at just about anything shoved in their faces as cheer-worthy.
It reminds me of a high-school pep rally, where there is no substance, just fluff.
I see the Today show host Ann Curry, who has mastered the art of changing facial expressions to match the news, easily frowning and crying about a "disturbing" child abuse case, and seconds later wearing a big grin talking about holiday recipes.
There is nothing sincere or informative about these programs.
Fox News and talk radio are even worse, as it's just propaganda 24/7.
From what I can tell, the U.S. is in a complete state of mental lock down.

Don't get me started. I knew, even before all of this researching about all this stuff, that pep rallies were time well wasted. When i was in highschool a couple years back almost,

I was once pretty much forced to attend a pep rally (because it IS the school's job to mind control everyone) and I was surprised by the reaction of the teacher i talked to when i tried to

explain that I simply didn't want to participate, had no interest. I wasn't rude. This is fascism, we are living it NOW, support the regime or be blacklisted.

There is nothing sincere or informative about these programs.

Forgive me if i am mistaken, but I believe you have described America as a whole, insincere, and uninformative. We don't care and we don't know, and we don't want to.

All this america bashing depresses me, I should find something to laugh at. :)

Hey, whatever.

At least we're free.

Everyone else is jealous of this, man.

That's why we kill them like God want's us to, praise Jesus.

Amen.

I think too this is a nation that has a serious problem with 'growing up.' I have coworkers who to send mass forwards of videos of random stuff that isn't really funny or productive. I mean a glitter heart that says to send this back to the person who sent it to you, and then to another number of friends in order to 'attain' some sort of universal love or wealth. It's just weird. Who has that kind of time? I ignore the forwards, but still they send them to me as part of their mass email lists. Maybe it's fun for them, so no worries.

The kids love the youtube vids of the dancing cats too, but they are really young... ;)

I've often wondered where these e-mails originate from. There must be a factory somewhere that pumps them out. Some of them are really awful.

When I was blogging, I saw them once described as "glurge" which seems to fit.

Laura got one a few years back which we discussed.

I would not be surprised one little bit if there's a secret government agency that is devoted to distracting us with useless junk.

I picture it like this:

"Okay, it looks like people are starting to get bored with micheal jackson"

"We got a lotta mileage outta that one"

"Yeah, it was one of the better ones, i think...what's next?"

"let's remind americans how jesus died for them"

"uh, passion of the christ, hello??"

"oh, right, umm...well, team C came up with these really lame chain letters"

"great, lets use those ASAP!" :)

Yes, I've seen it unfold right before me and it shows no signs of getting better.
The perpetual fairy tale about American freedom, liberty, and strength makes me want to vomit.
The glorification of all things military, the complete dominance of corporate interests, and the ever-present Christian fundamentalist talking points about "God" blessing America, are such a toxic brew that I've had to simply drop out and become a hermit.
I'm 55 years old, barely escaped being drafted into the Vietnam war, and have witnessed an amazing increase in technology while at the same time I've watched a country turn into a debt worshipping, consumption driven tribe of militaristic locusts.
Years ago, I voted for Reagan TWICE, and finally realized the "noble America" he was supposed to embody was little more than a myth peppered with corruption from top to bottom.
People here are for the most part completely owned from birth, and have descended into a state of indentured servitude, and have been given playthings and toys to distract them.
There is no place for these people to aspire or ascend to because they are already in their version of heaven.
They're in their ideal element already.

I'm 55 years old

I'm honestly a little relieved to know your age BK. Quite a lot of people your age, from my subjective perspective, still don't "get it" at all. I'm 20.

Other people around that age might just say "i'm retiring soon, who gives a crap?" Which you already pointed out, basically.

and the ever-present Christian fundamentalist talking points about "God" blessing America

and WHERE EXACTLY is this christian "god" they speak of? And WHERE IS SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE???????? THERE IS NONE!!!!!!!!!!!

whew, sorry, i'm still steaming about monotheistic lies at this point in my life.

Years ago, I voted for Reagan TWICE, and finally realized the "noble America" he was supposed to embody was little more than a myth peppered with corruption from top to bottom.

THANK YOU. My dad once told me if I don't vote i have no right to complain about government or politics. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!!!! :curse:

I refuse to participate in a corrupt system's "elections." I wish that just one time for one election nobody would vote, and then they'd see right through everything.

There is no place for these people to aspire or ascend to because they are already in their version of heaven.

Precisely!! They are in heaven, because that's all they can see. They can't see the hell that is right in their faces. They will never dream of anything more than making money and so forth.

Some people believe I am pessimistic and the truth is, i am not pessimistic, i just see the world a tad more objectively, that's all. When I look at politicians, I don't see clean faces

and expensive suits. I see liars, murderers, and psychopaths. I see criminals. I see people who intend merely to control us and have their way with us. They sicken me.

Healthy New Year to All! Just came across this letter from King Leopold the II to his missionaries in the Congo. Reading he letter gives me chills because it's as if they have refined their method of enslaving the minds of many, not just those of the developing world. The letter contains some offensive language, but if you can get through it, one can surely see the similarities of today's world. Be Well!

Letter From King Leopold II to Colonial Missionaries Heading to Africa, 1883

AFRICANGLOBE – Below is a letter written in 1883 by King Leopold II of Belgium to Belgian Christian missionaries being sent to Congo. These Christian missionaries would eventually become the spearhead of Belgian colonialism only to be followed by Belgian traders and lastly the Belgian army.

Reverends, Fathers and Dear Compatriots:

The task that is given to fulfill is very delicate and requires much tact. You will go certainly to evangelize, but your evangelization must inspire above all Belgium interests. Your principal objective in our mission in the Congo is never to teach the n!ggers to know God, this they know already. They speak and submit to a Mungu, one Nzambi, one Nzakomba, and what else I don’t know.

They know that to kill, to sleep with someone else’s wife, to lie and to insult is bad. Have courage to admit it; you are not going to teach them what they know already. Your essential role is to facilitate the task of administrators and industrials, which means you will go to interpret the gospel in the way it will be the best to protect your interests in that part of the world. For these things, you have to keep watch on dis-interesting our savages from the richness that is plenty [in their underground. To avoid that, they get interested in it, and make you murderous] competition and dream one day to overthrow you.

Your knowledge of the gospel will allow you to find texts ordering, and encouraging your followers to love poverty, like “Happier are the poor because they will inherit the heaven” and, “It’s very difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom of God.” You have to detach from them and make them disrespect everything which gives courage to affront us. I make reference to their Mystic System and their war fetish – warfare protection – which they pretend not to want to abandon, and you must do everything in your power to make it disappear.

Your action will be directed essentially to the younger ones, for they won’t revolt when the recommendation of the priest is contradictory to their parent’s teachings. The children have to learn to obey what the missionary recommends, who is the father of their soul. You must singularly insist on their total submission and obedience, avoid developing the spirit in the schools, teach students to read and not to reason.

There, dear patriots, are some of the principles that you must apply. You will find many other books, which will be given to you at the end of this conference. Evangelize the n!ggers so that they stay forever in submission to the White colonialists, so they never revolt against the restraints they are undergoing. Recite every day – “Happy are those who are weeping because the kingdom of God is for them.”

I was listening to NRP the other day and the topic was water rights and quality (toxicity) in India. A man was going around trying to organize people to stand up for their basic human rights, in this case access to clean water. What he found was that almost all of the adults were not interested in doing anything at all to help their own cause. They (the numerous people on the street) had this idea that the government should be the ones to fix the problem, and that they should have to do nothing. The man's words fell on deaf ears in the case of the adults, but many children who overheard him speak soon took up his cause and joined his movement. They soon started going around querying people on the quality of water and inserting people's addresses into a smartphone so that a map could be created, that could then be used as evidence to the local governments to affect some change.

It was mentioned in the report how this same sort of behavior has already worked elsewhere in India, and that a local garbage dump, located deep inside a residential area, had been removed and converted into a playground.

For me, it shows the lack of hope that people have that they can have any sort of effect. They do not believe that their own voice matters, and have essentially sold their soul to others and allow someone in government to make all decisions for them, apparently content to live what many would consider to be a miserable existence. Pretty sad really.
