Baltimore riots

I always wonder it's like for the police officers in such situations. They seem so cold and inhuman looking at the people they are containing, I wonder if there is a story of one putting a hand on a civilians shoulder saying 'look I understand your grievances but we have a job to do', but it seems there is no humane common ground.

That would look even worse because it would sound like "look I understand your grievances but we have a job to do, and if you grieve anymore we ll beat you up because it is our job". That would be one real understanding.

I can not say how it is exactly in the US, I do not live there, but the things are seemingly out of control when it comes to police. In other countries, even if corrupt, for unjustified use of deadly force you would end up in jail, of course there are cover ups but if there is enough evidence, witnesses and enough pressure from public you end up in jail if you are small fish, if there are some political players in question or those higher in police hierarchy with political links of course it will be covered up and would get little media attention or any. It is a different world, but from I saw many people do not understand it that police officers are bound by their experiences, partner is the only one who is protecting your back and there is an understanding because of that when someone else makes some mistake - from that it is easier to foment us vs. them with all that brainwashing with simplistic views(if some even need it), ordinary people do not understand how it is because they never experienced it, you are limited in your freedoms that you see people take for granted, you take lot of things everyday and lashing outs from superiors, there are stressful situations where it is easy to forget yourself and it is impossible to think about procedure and it s many variables and people are quick to jump to assumptions and point the finger. Others are plain stupid or immature and only follow orders or only watch for their self interest and would stab you in the back for their gain, using the position for selfish gains, even if others know about that they only distance themselves because they do not want conflict and it depends about your superior and level of corruption from station to station. If the superior is also corrupt and majority of station you risk marginalization and maybe even being killed, it depends on how far are they willing to go, but higher it gets the more corruption and pathology there is, and there are some real first class slimes.

Some take bribes because they see that those higher ups are corrupt and if they can earn millions while I risk my life everyday for small money why not earn something from side, but they get fired if someone photographs them.

There is also an existential question, if you have family and it is dire economic situation you can not afford to say no and what will it accomplish on that protests if one policemen with conscience steps out that are minority everywhere, people would applaud and say bravo but he would get fired immediately and who is going to feed his family? Those protesters? I do not think so, question is if he would find any job at all if he ended on discipline commission. Even if there is some revolution, change of government, everything stays the same, pathological s infiltrate it sooner or later. But there are boundaries, if it gets to it to shoot people with no cause or shoot on hungry people, it is a signal to go out because things went bonkers.

But from what it is happening in USA, the pathological s are majority everywhere because of ponerazation.

In my country where there were some situations I know to use firearm - being shoot at, policemen did not want to fire, some of fear and others did not want to kill the men, it is easy to say but in real situation it is different story. One case was where multiple murderer wanted to take gun from policemen but he throw ed it away because he did not have legal conditions to use it, this guy was not armed and could have killed him with his own gun. And after some situations ambulance was needed because they were in state of shock. Compering it to the USA, it is stark contrast, it would be a war zone, then it is a no surprise when they came here and were baffled when hearing about conditions to use firearms.
