Books in Other Languages and Donations

Kaigen

The Living Force
Hey all,
After having discussion with my father few months ago about Lauras books in Polish, and yet another friend asked me this same.
I had a thought about donation for Books translations in different languages.

I must say my father had a stroke few years back, but this was his topic, still is. He can not use Internet, but he loves books. :)
Sometimes I print out a bunch of pages from the site Pracownia4 and send it from Japan to Poland.

I'm sure there are more people which are interested in reading books in own languages. Two years ago I made big step here in the forum and wrote my first sentences in English. I'm very glad I did, and I encourage everyone to do it too. Besides this Forum helped me in my work, which from the start seams impossible for me. I work as English teacher for elementary schools. Now I say nothing is impossible. Just start and keep going.

I made a little research on sites as Translators base _http://translatorsbase.com/ for further informations how it works with translations.
I started imagined project and became bits for book translations for 0.02 USD / word.

For ex. the book "The Apocalypse: Comets, Asteroids and Cyclical Catastrophes" with 268 pages and about 105.000 words would cost
2100 USD. There are professionals which are doing it for more then 20 years. After I asked about the quality.

Another thing is I have no clue about what is next (costs, work, ect..) after Translation is ready to go. Let's say Kindle edition?
Printed edition would be much more work extensive I guess.

I must say that, I am very thankful to the translators team which is very busy translating all possible articles and books.
It is also hard to do it as volunteer too, often is the motivation, after hours and hours, days, weeks, months and years of working on text to take a lot of punishment. I was trying to translate texts more times it was like a pain. I want to do it but I couldn't.

Here ones more Big thank you for your hard work! :flowers:

I remember the Kick-starter motivation was huge, the goal is Book translation in any language! backers simply become the kindle version of the book.
I know it is not so simple as I write it, but we are network and could figure it out, right?

Any thoughts on this ?

Thanks Kaigen

Laura's books are specific and require translator who understand the material firstly if we would like to receive translation on the high standard. We would have to find concrete person/persons and they cope with books.

The best solution would be use the allegro.pl which is like Polish equivalent of the amazon. They have over 10 millions users in Poland. Allegro has something similar to amazon kindle, this is ebooki.allegro.pl. You download a book and read on the reader pc or kindle. Books are safeguards against illegal copying.

Of course it requires register business activity and costs associated with this. Requires profesional translation and some money for advertising book/books if costs would have to be paid.

I agree. And it is also a chance to give something back. And it don't have to be entire books per se, articles are also helpful.

There are some chapters translated in Polish: http://quantumfuture.net/pl/index.htm

What do you mean by punishment?

Yeah, I am acutely aware of this. The articles are publish in the pracownia4.wordpress.com. Who can translate then translate. Post above I responded to the possibility of publishing Laura's books in Polish and sales.

Thank you Lux I was not aware of these.
Will check it later. But this looks more complicated I think.

Gawan, What I meant was that after doing it long time you get stressed and tired and stop translating for longer period of time.

What I was thinking is:
Like donation bar on German Sott site for German books
And French or spanic. On each site. There are plenty of people who have no ability to learn another language.
Thank you for your thoughts.

:) did you know about the polish Kickstarter Polak potrafi?
_www.polakpotrafi.pl
Althought new, could be helpful.

So often, many things are more complicated than we suppose :)

There are many hidden law loopholes and charges especially in such a corrupt country like Poland. Here is a big bar to jump over for ordinary not wealthy people who want to be creative and make some business. Hard nut. But is not impossible.

However, something is happening here, for example, recently I had been a chance to listening the radio or reading newspaper I saw/listened different sponsored news about e-books, convenience of e-books, benefits of reading books at all. Something is happen like the ebooki allegro started in 2012, this is something new, it gives some new options.

When in comes to Poland, I feel that there are few people, and if we want to do something for our motherland, books or something else, we need to take decisive steps to unite, all, now.

:) I agree, could you elaborate further steps, what would be the good start to begin with?

So I checked the site _http://ebooki.allegro.pl/

Looks promising but there is no information who and how can sale e-books, so far I can see.

There are apps for iOS, android, Kindle, PC.

In the 'ebooki allegro' publishing houses advertise. For sure 'allegro' want a commission for it. In addition, in order to sell in the way like through 'ebook allegro' you need to register business activity, on the country territory, it could be costs about a dozen or so thousands złotych at year or more. The next step would be find somebody who will translate the book/books. But we need ask for help someone who stricken in the matter of translations. And what is most important is what we want to translate, I would prefer The Secret History series, vol. 1, Horns of Moses, and others volumes which is planning. We would have to determine what is the estimated amount of readers who might be interested in the book/books. Calculate. And then we'll see what's next. Give some time, I will look at this and inform what I searched in the point of law and allegro.

We have already worked with two "professional" translators, and the result was tiwce a disaster. Right now, I'm proofreading Ponerology in Spanish, done by a professional (a group member paid her as a gift to us), and I'm having to pretty much re-write it. So, it's very hard to find somebody.

I see, that is different as I thought. So in that case I will double my effort and set my shoulder to the wheel.
Thanks Ailén.
