Bye-the-way - Happy Birthday(s)

Thanks Parallax! I guess the baby photo also applies to me. Yesterday, the General Law was pushing some buttons(including a lost internet connection), but today, coming from my surprise birthday party(thanks to my friends!) and your message made me VERY happy. Thanks again. :flowers:

And I got a gift, pop-up book of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, my favourite book from childhood!!! :wow:

Yes This was my favorite book, too.

I used to cry when I read it.

It's beautiful.
"Nothing's perfect," sighed the fox. "My life is monotonous. I hunt chickens; people hunt me. All chickens are just alike, and all men are just alike. So I'm rather bored. But if you tame me, my life will be filled with sunshine. I'll know the sound of footsteps that will be different from all the rest. Other footsteps send me back underground. Yours will call me out of my burrow like music. And then, look! You see the wheat fields over there? I don't eat bread. For me, wheat is no use whatever. Wheat fields say nothing to me. Which is sad. But you have hair the color of gold. So it will be wonderful, once you've tamed me! The wheat, which is golden, will remind me of you. And I'll love the sound of the wind in the wheat..."
I just want to say thanks for the baby picking her nose with cake!! It made me laugh sooo hard and I really needed that! :D

Happy Birthday to Puck :), nickdneo :), BCii :), may you find great insights all while having fun!

Cheers!

I wanted to thank you all for bringing up this book. I had never read it before.

It's awesome and I can't wait to give copies to my kids when they are older. What a lovely story.

I agree. You know, when I read it a few days ago, I was a little worried because it passed at least ten years the last time I have read it. I was wondering if my tastes have changed or if I would find it silly. Nope, as I read it, tears came and it was beautiful. Especially the piece about taming the fox. It is such a great story that I think somebody should make a Jungian analysis about this story. If nobody does it, I am going to do it myself. :)

On a sad side note, Exupery mentions a Turkish astronomer discovering Little Prince's asteroid B-612 and nobody listens to it because of his old fashioned clothes, the clothes were modernized by a Turkish dictator. That dictator is Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, and I personally agree with Exupery that he is a dictator, though others may think differently.

The sad part is, this part of the book is censored in Turkish translation, it says "Turkish leader" instead of "Turkish dictator"! And for the same reason, the Ministry of Education did not include the book as 100 Essential Books, a list of books which contain classics for the reading of children in schools. What a pity, imagine how could it contribute to their understanding. :(

That is interesting about the censoring of The Little Prince, sadly it doesn't surprise me. :(

It's strange I never came across that particular title before. At first I was thinking there was no way a children's book would move me to tears, but I was thankfully wrong.

Have you ever read "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein?

No, I have never heard of it, but after reading its subject, I will definitely read it. I am constantly thinking about "selfless giving" and how to incorporate it into my life nowadays, so I think that book might be very useful and give some food for thought about this matter. Thank you for mentioning it. :)

Cool thread! Happy birthday to you all!

Ha, thanks guys.... been rough sailing these last few weeks so I really appreciate the good vibes.

And STRENGTH to you Puck, for whatever it is you are facing lately!

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it.

Whether was great today, had a nice dinner, some good conversations, colourful balloons that my partner spread through the house (something I hadn't had since I was about 10 years old )

And a belated Happy birthday to all the early to mid November folks!

Happy belated to CorkyC , Nicholas , Willow and StandingOnTheEdge; apologies, caught , however, hope you had fun :flowers:, and Happy Birthday today to Xman , Gonzo, and Mona ; have a wonderful day !!! :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. My wish for my 60th year was to pray for transformation. In the last several months I have begun the E-E breathing meditation exercise, gone on a detox diet, I'm performing a strengthening exercise program with light weights and using QiGong movements, and I've grown a white beard, since hair that was once on the top of my head refuses to grow there any more. I would safely say that I am transforming...and it feels GREAT!!
I can't wait to see all the wonderful things that will unfold with such an amazing group of people as all of you.
Thank you again and much love to all of you at this point of our synchrony.
