Caffeine withdrawal

Just wanted to note that I picked up my own (red) rooibos today. It was not at either the grocery stores or health food stores I went to (I didn't search exhaustively), but I came across a tea wholesaler who carried it and just picked up half a pound. They let me sample it on location, and it was quite good, but it was too hot and I couldn't get a really good feel for the subtleties. I look forward to trying it out this evening at home.

I think you should just have it anyway, since you'll have to have ten cups of the red to get the same goodness of one green cup. ;)

That is a good point. I'll see if I can find some around here...

LOL! I agree with both you! I am on day-4 without coffee and I feel pretty good. Even though my coffee pot misses me terribly, I think I'll try to find the rooibos, too.

Pete02, thanks for recommending the Teeccino!

Edit - Quotes

I’ve been avoiding :scared: this thread because of being so conflicted  with information over the years; paired back over the last few weeks, tea with lime juice and a bit of honey and that is not good ether (honey).

Of admission is that “I am a Coffeeholic “ :-[ and the thoughts of leaving it behind have weighed heavily, yet it is a must. Glad to know “I’m not alone” :)

Thanks for the thread and advice in approaches in getting off the bean…work to do here.

OK so I tried some of the Teeccino herbal coffee offerings. Although there are particular types of herbal coffee that are recommended for coffee drinkers, I found they didn't taste too much like coffee. Well, not enough to fool you anyway! But after ordering the sample pack, I've been trying a different type every night. I have to say that they have really grown on me. I add a bit of rice milk, but no xylitol necessary as it's not as bitter as real coffee (possibly due to it being alkaline, not acidic).

Teeccino’s high content of potassium, an alkaline mineral, helps neutralize acidity and restore the blood’s alkaline balance. Most of the ingredients in Teeccino like the carob, chicory, almonds, ramon nuts, dates and figs are all alkaline. Additionally, by roasting the ingredients in Teeccino, the carbohydrates become more easily digestible and thus less acidifying.

Drinking Teeccino helps you reduce acidity in your body in two ways. First, it provides the alkaline mineral, potassium, which your body uses to balance the acidity in your diet. Second, the inulin from the chicory in Teeccino supports a population of beneficial microflora that enhances your digestion and increases the the bio-availability of minerals. Thus Teeccino gives you a better ability to absorb your alkaline minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium, cobalt, and copper that a healthy person needs to maintain the body’s natural alkaline balance.

Inulin is known as a pre-biotic because it is food for the beneficial microflora in the intestines. You need inulin to establish a healthy population of Bifidobacteria that increase the efficiency of digesting your food plus create vitamins and enzymes that further promote good digestion and boost the immune system. Other harmful bacteria have been shown to decrease in population after inulin helps the healthy digestive flora become dominant. Supplementing with a pro-biotic that contains live Bifidobacteria and consuming a pre-biotic like inulin helps improve your digestion and your health.

Also, of interest:

"Is there caffeine in the cocoa powder in Mocha, Chocolate Mint & Maya Chocolaté?"

Cocoa contains a small amount of caffeine. However, since cocoa is used as a flavoring in Teeccino in very small quantities, no detectable level of caffeine has been found in a cup of Teeccino Mocha or Chocolate Mint when tested by independent laboratories.

Would be better if they used cocoa without the shell! Therefore, no caffeine whatsoever.

Also, please note that the "Maya" range includes ramon nuts.

GOD! I drink coffee all day, all night, every dawn, every day and when finished, do more ... I'm not addicted, like me, I quit very easily. had read an article that said that coffee was not much damage to man. I do not have insomnia, do not drink coffee in motivation or psychological dependency, but if I have caused damage. I think I understand why so many crazy things... and all for a cup of coffee.

Hey guys,

I posted this in another thread about two years ago, but rooibos has a significant level of fluoride. _http://greentealovers.com/images/rooibos_table5.gif According to this website, it contains 5% of the RDI (Recommended Daily Intake- never knew there was one for fluoride), or .22mg per 200ml cup. So y'all might want to reconsider this if you are looking to avoid fluoride, which probably most of us are.

Darn! :( Thanks for pointing that out D Rusak.

I had thought I was limiting the intake of fluoride since I only drink bottled water and Rooibos. I knew there was fluoride in bottled water but didn't realize I was doubling the intake every time I made a cup of tea. I'll havta check it out!

Edit for spelling.

I quit drinking coffee over one year ago. I had been drinking coffee up to that point for 20 years, 2-3 cups a day. When I finally gave it up, I had a BOUNDING headache for three days. Something I do not want to go through again. I have learned over this year I don't NEED it ....

Ok read the thread and you guys are driving me crazy!.... well only because I need a substitute for coffee ;) (that's hard, I live in Italy and enjoy coffee) So Rooibos has fluoride? Are we sure? I had been contemplating the coffee discussion and was ready to buy my Rooibos....and now it has fluoride.....well alright then, but someone has gotta give me another idea to substitute the coffee ;)

My question is: If I am on diet (anti-candida especially) should I avoid green tea as well? It is promoted as healthy replacement for a coffee, and I personally respond it to very well. Usually, I drink 2 cups a day and it helps me concentrate, not to mention burst my energy level. I wonder if I could function without caffeine. I thought about trying yerba mate too, but now I'm quite confused about the matter.

Btw, rooibos seems very good. I'm interested especially in antioxidants in it, since I have Floaters in my vitreous humor and their appearance is often connected to ODFR (oxygen derived free radicals). I'll try find rooibos in my local tea store and see how it works for me :)

Hello- I gave up coffee a few weeks ago and switched over to teeccino...while in the process I noticed there was more than just an addiction to the caffeine. I noticed there was also an addiction to the habit of having a hot beverage to start the day. I am trying to figure out where that connection began. It seems rather strange to crave something hot when I live in Arizona and will spend the day outside working in 110+ degree days.

I am understanding one should strive to observe oneself objectively. Is it necessary to figure out the "why" to every action? I am guessing there is probably a program running somewhere, but am not sure. Is it better to just keep observing in the now rather than to struggle with figuring out the why immediately? Or is that where a "shock" can occur, and to not press into it harder you are avoiding a shock?

Thanks for input
