Was really nice to join you yesterday, lots of great contributions!

I'm not sure what the issue was, but we'll work on figuring something out so people can hear us better next time. It was a great discussion and looking forward to the next one!

Yes, it was a bit difficult to understand you guys, especially those not directly in front of the mic (and perhaps especially for those of us who are not native speakers - following people talk in a foreign language can be more challenging than reading, at least for me, and great audio quality helps very much). FWIW just an idea - you could use a USB microphone with a USB extension cable and pass it around, since the transmission is digital, it might be less prone to interference.

For everyone from Cesarea, like someone is playing with plastic bag or something on the end of every sentence.
Yes, it was quite difficult to hear Cesarea people... :-(

I´ve managed to fix my Zoom issues. It was actually sound settings issue, as you will see below....

Here is adjustment for Win10.

There are basically 2 things to adjust:
1. right-click on your speaker (down on the left) and click on "Sound"
- on tab "Communications" choose "Do nothing" option and save/click OK
2. go to "Sound" option in Control Pannel or just type in "Sound" in search and choose "Sound settings"
- click on "Device properties"
- then click on "Additional device properties"
- when small window openes, go to "Advanced" tab and under Exclusive mode uncheck option "Allow application to take exclusive control of this device"

After that my Zomm worked smoothly; I´ve done some testing today with my brother on the other side - my Zoom app would freeze every time with sound issues problems, etc.
Zoom app was probably trying to "take control" of the sound settings and that froze entire thing.

So, hope it will help as it heped in my case.....

I was enjoying the discussion. If someone wants to "change reality" aka background just go to your settings in Zoom and choose Virtual Background. I hope you'll choose space
Definitely Dakota i love it. I had plans to place a Space wallpaper in my office last year but never got around to it. The discussion is getting warmer as we move along. I was always looking forward to learning in a setting such as this over the past year. It just dawn on me that maybe AI or one of you senior guys could give a 5 or 10 min talks on a topic of importance to us as we go through the Wave readings. Thanks much to you all.

Thank you @Arwenn, @Aya, and @Keit for organising and moderating the session and the summary. It was really good to put names to faces and have an open and active discussion. Session like these are very beneficial in clearing out some blind spots by adding clarity to the message contained in C's sessions and Laura's interpretations.

Our Zoom session was pretty smooth given low number of participants. Anyone from EU and USA timezone want to jump in to spread the load then feel free to do so. I do have some general advice on Zoom given my technical background and experience in organising Zoom meetings with 600+ participants -
  • Understand that if a Zoom meeting has more than 10 participants, it becomes a seminar as opposed to a meeting. A seminar has small amount of active speakers with floor open to questions from other listeners.
  • In general, except for the moderator and active speakers, everyone else should mute their microphones and turn off video after meeting has started. This cuts down on the bandwidth usage and improves the experience for everyone. This is also the most considerate thing to do.
  • Always use the Zoom app on your laptop/PC/smartphone - do not use the Web browser. The App will work better with your device hardware and drivers. Web browser will have microphone access-permissions denied and WebRTC related issues and not very stable.
  • Ensure you are close to the microphone when speaking and sitting in a quite noise-free area. I have seen some people dial in from public parks etc with lots of wind noise which makes it very hard to hear them and involves a lot of second guessing - terrible manners and inconsideration towards others' time. If you have to dial in from outdoors then ensure you are a passive listener only with microphone muted and video off.
  • Use a dedicated headset with microphone if your finances allow for it. The built-in microphones in laptops and other devices have bad pickup and poor noise cancellation.
  • If you have one-way audio issues or unable to hear the other party, close the Zoom App and test your microphones first from this website - Microphone Test - Check Your Mic With Our Online Tool | OnlineMicTest. Reboot your computer too as this will apply any pending Windows updates and re-initialize your audio drivers.
  • Joining a meeting - Each meeting has either a re-usable or random meeting ID. If you know the ID, you can join a meeting directly from the Zoom app by entering the ID. If your internet is slow, you can also dial into the meeting via a phone call - the Zoom App will provide you with these numbers + meeting ID when you click on "Join Audio" and "Phone" tab.
  • Zoom Meeting ID - this can be fished out from the "Join Cloud Meeting..." link easily. When you click on the link, it will open in the browser before launching Zoom app. Notice the link in your address bar, e.g.
    Code:
    https://zoom.us/j/282921554
The numbers at the end are the meeting ID which can be directly entered into Zoom App. So, in this example, the meeting ID is 282 921 554
Hope the above steps are helpful and the next Zoom meetings are smoother for everyone.

I thought it was a good discussion too, and thanks to everyone for letting us know that you had trouble hearing us! Can't fix something if you don't know it's broke.

We were using a USB conference mic and it's seemed to work fine for other calls that we've done, or at least no one has mentioned bad audio quality up to this point. So we'll do some debugging and see if we can't get it worked out before the next one so y'all can hear us. :flowers:

Thanks for this opportunity too! (Just came form the EE workshop thread). I'm a little late to the party, but I'll try to read as fast as I can and watch the videos of the previous sessions so I can join the next one. Meetings are still at 6:00 PM UTC?

Great, Cantera! And don't worry, you can join the next meeting and catch up later if you don't finish with the reading.

Meetings are still at 6:00 PM UTC?

Yes, the next meeting for the members in America and Europe will be on April 25 at 6:00 PM UTC.

And the next one for Asia-Oceania-Africa will be on April 25 at 10:00 AM UTC.

You can join either or both if you want.
