Sadly, a second boy has died from gunshot wounds to the back of his head.
One other boy that was life-flighted may still be in critical condition, and two others were taken to a hospital little more than a stones throw from my house.
Chardon is located 20 miles from where I dropped off my kids at school this morning.
Details on the family life of the accused are slowly coming out. It has been reported he tweeted about bringing guns to school the night before, and that he posted on facebook on December 30th which ended with
He attended a 'special' school for kids and his daily routine included being bussed to school along with other students enrolled in a vocational program at a different school.
First reports stated that one of the boys sold him 'bad drugs', others that he had been bullied and that the second boy that died had been dating an old girlfriend.
Here I found some information on his family life; the father has a history of abusing women with which he has had children with, including attempted murder charges:
AS more details slowly trickled in yesterday, in the midst of trying to understand what happened and wondering whether those injured would survive their injuries, all our 'newscasters', 'public officials' including the attorney general, the sherriff, the governor of ohio, the chief of police, etc. were 'praising' the response of the police and swat teams, gushing over the quick response thanks to their prior drills in handling such a situation.
In other words, never let a good tragedy be wasted in a political election year.
Coming out of the other side of their mouths, was the need for more gun laws and metal detectors being installed at the doors of all schools. Not to be forgotten however, would be the responsibility of the kids who know these 'troubled' kids to alert officials of any threats of any sort (not that I totally disagree, but that would assume someone would actually listen, and that the 'snitch' wouldn't have trouble brought upon himself).
Not once did I hear that teachers and administrators need to pay more attention to the bullying that occurs, and my own kids tell me their teachers don't care.
The actual heroes were the two teachers who chased the boy out of the school, and who were dodging bullets themselves. Some have said as many as 10 shots were fired, and that 2 handguns were involved.
My thoughts are with the victims and their families, and with the more than 100 students in the cafeteria who witnessed the shootings and saw their schoolmates fall in a pool of blood.
Very, very sad what these kids are faced with .....

I am Death. And you have always been the sod. So repulsive and so odd. You never even deserved the presence of God, and yet, I am here. Around your cradle I plod. Came on foot, without shod. How improper, how rude. However, they shall not mind the mud on my feet if there is blood on your sheet. Now! Feel death, not just mocking you. Not just stalking you but inside of you. Wriggle and writhe. Feel smaller beneath my might. Seizure in the Pestilence that is my scythe. Die, all of you.

The Lake Academy is an alternative education program offering a unique approach to formal education for students who are experiencing serious challenges in meeting expectations within traditional school settings. Many of the students attending The Lake Academy are considered “reluctant learners” and may be struggling with a variety of individual problems, such as: substance abuse /chemical dependency, anger issues, mental health issues, truancy, delinquency, difficulties with attention/organization, and academic deficiencies.

Teen suspect in Ohio school shooting had violent upbringing
[snip]
It appears that T.J. Lane had violence in his life from the beginning.
The father of the teen who authorities say shot five students at Chardon High School in Ohio on Monday had been arrested many times for violent crimes against women in his life, including Lane’s mother, records from Geaugu County court show. More than once, police or courts warned him to stay away from the boy and his mother.
[...] Dad known to authorities
The father, Thomas Lane Jr., was known to county authorities because of a series of arrests for abusing women he had children with, court records show. It’s not clear how much contact the father and son had.
But between 1995 and 1997 both the boy’s father and his mother, Sarah A. Nolan, were charged with domestic violence against each other.
The father was later charged with assaulting a police officer, and he served time in prison after trying to suffocate another woman he married several years after his son was born, according to court records.
He held the woman’s head under running water and bashed it into a wall, leaving a dent in the drywall, the court records said.
But soon after he went to prison, the woman wrote a letter asking that he be released early.
She had divorced Thomas Lane but said in the letter that he was always a good father to their twin daughters and a son she had before they married.
Some kids, who attended a vigil at a church on Chardon’s square Monday evening, said the teen lived with his grandparents and had multiple stepand half siblings. His grandmother, Carol Nolan, declined to comment.
