I've just read a very interesting yesterday's article re Ukraine, Russia, China, US and EU roles in the current crisis titled What is at stake in Ukraine. The article is rather long (5 pages), but it's certainly worth reading. It gives a very reasonable explanation of the author's view of today's geopolitical situation. It is available both in Russian and in English.

Excellent article.

Hmmm... "About": _http://nationalinterest.org/about-the-national-interest

Over almost three decades, The National Interest, founded in 1985 by Irving Kristol and Owen Harries, has displayed a remarkable consistency in its approach to foreign policy. It is not, as the inaugural statement declared, about world affairs. It is about American interests. It is guided by the belief that nothing will enhance those interests as effectively as the approach to foreign affairs commonly known as realism—a school of thought traditionally associated with such thinkers and statesmen as Disraeli, Bismarck, and Henry Kissinger. Though the shape of international politics has changed considerably in the past few decades, the magazine’s fundamental tenets have not. Instead, they have proven enduring and, indeed, appear to be enjoying something of a popular renaissance.

Until recently, however, liberal hawks and neoconservatives have successfully attempted to stifle debate by arguing that prudence about the use of American power abroad was imprudent—by, in short, disparaging realism as a moribund doctrine that is wholly inimical to American idealism. This has been disastrous. After the Bush administration’s failure to discover weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, it became abundantly clear that the lack of a debate in Washington was part and parcel of a larger foreign policy failing, which was the refusal to ponder the larger implications and consequences of the promiscuous use of American power abroad. A reflexive substitution of military might for diplomacy, of bellicose rhetoric for attainable aspirations, dramatically weakened rather than strengthened America’s standing around the globe. But today, as Russia, China, and Iran assess and act upon their own perceived national interests, Washington must attempt to understand those nations as they understand themselves.

This is why a return to realism has seldom been more imperative. It is notions of interdependence, the end of sovereignty, and the inutility of power that have all proven wanting in the past decade. International relations was not reinvented in 1989. While it may be an old foreign policy concept, the notion of a national interest is not an antiquarian one. On the contrary, it has never possessed more relevance than now.

What actually constitutes true realism is, of course, an appropriate source of controversy. And so, on both its web site and in its print edition, The National Interest seeks to promote, as far as possible, a fresh debate about the course of American foreign policy by featuring a variety of leading authors from government, journalism, and academia, many of whom may at times disagree with each other. But it is only out of such disagreements that dogmas can be dispelled and clarity about America’s proper aims achieved. By contributing a vital stimulus towards fashioning a new foreign policy consensus based on civil and enlightened contention, The National Interest seeks to serve this country’s wider national interest.

Doesn't mean it wasn't accurate, but we have to be alert about the source and possible biases.

With everything heating up all over the planet, I'm wondering what the real meaning of all these violent escalations is all about. Keeping the funding to the Military Industrial Complex is part of it, I'm sure. But is it also a way of distracting attention from pending pandemic/plague, economic/financial collapse leading to the collapse of technological industrial civilization, all accompanied by ecological destruction and collapse (the unfolding 6th extinction) and climate chaos leading to the rapid return to an ice age?

The main goal of the Powers that Be being to try to keep control at all costs (at least over their populations) and keep the masses of humanity from finding out that they are NOT in control, as studied and discussed extensively here. If the enslaved, dis-empowered population of the world - the 99% - do have an extreme reaction against the elite, it seems to have been, over and over throughout human history, when everything fell apart and the ruling classes were unable to do anything about it.

I also get the feeling (don't know exactly how accurate this is) that there's no real strategy being pursued by the Powers that Be and the Empire. It could just be that the when psychopaths have taken over all positions of power in most of the world, that the near total global Pathocracy has degraded everything to such an extent that much of this horrible, violent bloodshed, chaos and destruction is just the psychopaths feeling an "inner pressure" to go on a mass murder spree with no real "strategic pursuit" behind their pathological behavior and no long-term planning at all.

And maybe someone like Putin is more of a symbol - in addition to all he's said and done over the years inspiring hope - that there's still some balance, hope and a small window of opportunity that another near total destruction on the planet can be mitigated. Putin seems to be the exception to the rule that all who get to those positions of power are pathological with no principles and no vision. There were some others like Chavez, but he was much more emotional and flamboyant and even easier to demonize by the controlled mainstream media. Also Chavez didn't have as much power on the world stage to stand up to the bullies and out-of-control greedy psychopaths. Putin seems to show lots of empathy and conscience, but keeps his emotions mostly under control when he confronts the epic evil deeds and intentions of the Pathocrats and uses reason and logic to temper what would probably be his enormous emotional revulsion to their sick machinations.

What I'm getting at is that just having a world leader like Putin may be a marker that all is not yet lost and there's some small chance left to ameliorate total destruction by a cosmic reaction to the chaos and suffering on our unfortunate planet. Whatever the outcome of these escalations and conflicts or Putin's strategy and actions to try to stabilize an increasingly out-of-control world, the sign is for the rest of us struggling to make a difference that there's an opportunity to give all and make a last stand to try to ameliorate the coming destruction and the wiping of the slate clean; while using all efforts to increase the chances of a better world being built on the shambles of the old for the likely survivors, however few, that need to take a totally different direction in how they arrange their lives and deal with any surviving psychopathic marauding gangs, etc.

That's the way I'm seeing it right now. Putin is the most hated man by the ruling elite of the world, and the most popular world leader for the informed people of conscience, in addition to his huge popularity in Russia itself (probably enjoying the most popularity by his own people of any leader of a country currently in the world). He's been able to stay ahead of his and humanity's enemies and make concrete positive changes in Russia no matter what's been thrown at him for a decade and a half. He's increasingly been trying to obstruct and slow down the destructive deeds of the Psychopathic Oligarchy running the world. But in addition to all that, he's been a signal to those resisting the lies, manipulations, exploitation, public looting , death and destruction being spread, that all is not yet lost. But time and opportunities are running out, so we all need to make super-efforts to find out and point out what's going on all around us day in and day out....

Could be what the C's said.

A: As the changes approach, they feel the pressure but do not understand what it is. They only feel an insatiable hunger and fear that they will be left with nothing. Thus the drive to grab and destroy.

For Israel's PTB this seems to be especially true, as shown by a recent article on sott.

http://www.sott.net/article/283106-Israel-A-cornered-rat

But it is just an illusion. Israel is not behaving like a confidently powerful nation. Instead, it is desperately lashing out like a cornered rat in the final throes of rabies.

The rats in Israel have their backs to the wall. They are cornered, and they know it. And as they blindly lash out in useless fury by mass-murdering ever-increasing numbers of helpless women and children, they are simply hastening their own inevitable demise.

Hi SeekinTruth,

I agree there's always hope and there still are slim chances for evading a complete and utter derailment.

Having said this, your summation brought memories of the Secret History by Procopius back to me.

Based on his account about a similar situation back then, I would expect a steady downturn unevenly spread across the globe -- which means there could be pockets or enclaves of relative 'normalcy' within the total chaos, where chances of survival and rebuilding what was lost remain better than elsewhere.

I think the recent moves aimed at establishing FOTCM communes where ever viable go precisely in that direction and it goes without saying it's impossible to predict any outcome whatsoever of such a strategy. Nevertheless, that's still an aim to cherish and to work for as best as we can. OSIT.

Wonder if this translation is correct and the site, a valid one? If true, it would give some understanding as to why Kerry requested an immediate truce.

Pentagon General Randy Allen Key Wounded In Ukraine???
_ http://vg-news.ru/n/110397

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

(English translation)
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that “Kiev authorities are ready to immediately stop” fighting in the Donbass. According to available information, cause a sudden attack of peace in Washington in the deaths of several American military trainers and wounded Pentagon General Randy Allen Key (Kee Randy Alan) who commanded the Ukrainian punishers in the southeast.

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry , after a meeting with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin made a statement that the Kiev authorities are ready for a ceasefire in the Donbas “not in the future, and now” , based on “peace plan President Poroshenko” .

Note that the U.S. official is already making statements on behalf of the head of the “independent” Ukraine. Guys are palyatsya, yes. But it is, bar, for illusions about who is now actually taxis in Kiev, no longer exist.

What is important is that this call for a truce sounded very suddenly and goes against all previous U.S. policy.

Immediately note the version that the U.S. leadership horrified the horrors of the civil war in Ukraine and decided to fight for peace on humanitarian grounds of conscience and morality. It’s fantastic that you can only voice Jen Psak either already late John Ronald Reuel Tolkien .

A more realistic assumption that the Ukrainian army and natsgvardiya suffered lately heavy losses and just are not able to fight on without respite.Yes and fund military operations Kiev has nothing to what expressly stated Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak and former PrimeYatsenyuk . In this light, Washington and Kiev requested a truce could be a ploy to gain time to regroup and pull-up reserves.

According to reports, militia Novorossia destroyed several U.S. “military advisers” and wounded General Key Randy Allen , who actually commanded all the troops of the Kiev junta.

Recall, last week it became known that the Ukraine arrived 180 U.S. Army trainers representing the Rangers, airmobile forces and specialists to restore aviation. Many of them have recently been intensively studied Ukrainian language.

Arrived in Kiev July 23 American officers and NCOs assigned to the Fort Benning base in the states of Alabama and Georgia, and obey the command of the Force Special Operations Command and the training and development of the military doctrines of the U.S. Armed Forces, saidpravosudija.net .

Most instructors have experience in training military personnel in Central and South America, which was held in the framework of the military-industrial and military cooperation.

Sending military advisers to Ukraine and reported in the American media. Thus, the newspaper “The Washington Times” July 22 wrote : “Since the Ukrainian army crumbles soon Ukraine will be sent to a group of American advisers who strategize suppression of pro-Putin separatists and determine what material investments and other assistance required for this suppression “ .

A direct leadership Ukrainian law enforcers Pentagon sent Maj. Gen. Randy Allen Key, Head of policy, strategy and partnership opportunities for European command of U.S. forces. July 21 he started to work, coordinating of 12 working groups, which are intended to “improve the security of Ukraine” . Under the leadership of the Pentagon’s general these working groups discussed including the fighting in the south-east.

However, upon arrival to Ukraine American “military experts” immediately began to suffer losses. So, in summary number 83 armed forces command Donbass reported the destruction of two U.S. advisers:

“July 24 in Mariupol partisans carried out a successful military campaign, during which the streets of the city were destroyed by two U.S. military advisers from among 180 officers of the U.S. Army instructors, days earlier arrivals to control punitive operation and training punitive” .

At Monday, July 28 Commander forces DNR Igor Gunmen told details about military engagement marinating, where among the security forces were killed Ukrainian blacks.

“ By marinating militias attack reflected the height of 198.3. During this battle destroyed four tanks, four armored personnel carriers. All of them were burned. Among those killed are people blacks. Militia commander is ready to provide for the filming of the corpses “ - told Shooters.

Another day later, it was reported new casualties among U.S. military and among the victims were the general himself Randy Allen Key.

Tuesday, July 29 at the social networks reported: “In the area of intelligence and Raisins subversive group (RDG) militia attacked a convoy of U.S. military trainers. Killed three U.S. officers and wounded General Key Randy Allen, who commands the punitive operation “.

And right after that John Kerry requested ceasefire.

.S. leadership could ignore the deaths of their mercenaries from the private military companies (PMCs) such as “Greystone” and the like. Donbass such militias killed at least several dozen, if not hundreds. But the loss of mercenaries (even with American passports) Washington could not help noticing as “gray geese” formally act on their own risk and the state is not responsible for them.

But hush quietly death ordenonosnogo personnel officers from elite units of the U.S. Army no longer happens. These bodies have to drive home in coffins covered with the Stars and Stripes, and solemnly buried under fireworks and cameras. And if in a coffin, or even in the hospital would be a general at the Pentagon – it is quite a scandal for which Obama will have to justify in front of Congress and the public outcry.

In addition there is a very interesting information published HERE . The author, who has access to confidential sources, said that the other day a very senior GRU officer of the General Staff of Russia held a series of private conversations with colleagues from several Western countries.Expressed surprise at the claims to Russia from the United States, which for years arming and training around the world most of these terrorists, GRU officer came to the point.

The point was in two main theses:

1. On the intentions and capabilities of higher authorities officer;

2. On its own capabilities and intentions.

He told me that his boss has irrefutable evidence in the case of the Malaysian “Boeing” and will be forced to publish them, if the stream of slander from the White House about this tragedy does not stop immediately.

Note that information about Boeing , which previously outlined at the briefing Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lt. Gen. Kartapolov very likely kept deliberately left a gap, which could not fail to draw attention to its Western counterparts.

And myself a senior GRU officer asked him to convey it, even without reference to the commander in chief, has the authority to send the aid of Donbass hundred compatriots highly professional and properly instructed volunteers. And the result of their trip will be that “all one hundred eighty”unlikely to survive for more than four weeks.

European interlocutors General Staff immediately understood what it was about and in their professional (and not so narrow) range started a lively discussion. Some, in particular, reminded of the tactics of the Viet Cong, oriented only certain groups of snipers shooting at officers.

As a result, the competent circles formed the view that aimed to base Fort Benning to Ukraine 180 elite U.S. Army trainers were held hostage, which at any moment can turn into the status of “victims.”

In the capacity of his Russian interlocutor during the month an “all one hundred eighty ‘ home in coffins, no reason not to doubt. Europeans gave a warning to their U.S. counterparts, and as if by magic, Secretary Kerry begged the world.

PS

July 30 in Mariupol while swimming in the sea was shot another one of 180 military advisers. sniper bullet caught up with American when he swam in the sea. After the shot, he immediately plunged into the water. Those on shore colleagues could not help him, because they themselves were trying to find shelter from the shelling, which on the beach was not a goal. When, finally, the American soldier dragged ashore, he was dead.

Thus, for a full week of 10 180 have already been destroyed.

Here is a Youtube video of an interview with a Russian opinion journalist and politician Nicolai Starikov, who says the Ukrainians have two choices and one of these is to go to Russia, Poland or any other neighboring country and ask to become interned persons. Something which he says is in accord with international law.

Just a note, that there is an emergency meeting of the security council going on right now, and Russia was the one who called for it. The topic is the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis. They talk on RT about it.

Yes, very interesting. From the NYT:

The general was among a group of senior American and Afghan officers making a routine visit to Afghanistan’s premier military academy on the outskirts of Kabul when an Afghan soldier sprayed the officers with bullets from the window of a nearby building, hitting at least 15 before he was killed.

According to the Washington Post, recently Pentagon sent its officials as advisors to Ukraine.

And now we have this news:

Coincidence? Or maybe it wasn't really a "crazy Afghan soldier" who shot the American top-ranking general and possibly 15 others? And maybe it wasn't really Afghanistan?
