The court of Lille, France, sentenced 9 Ukrainian sailors to 5-8 years in jail, for drug trafficking. General cargo vessel CARIB PALM was intercepted by French forces on Dec 10 2015 off Boulogne-sur-Mer, and taken to Boulogne-sur-Mer for search. The ship was en route from Dominican Republic to Poland, allegedly for repairs, via Cartagena Colombia. French Coast Guard found ballasting freighter suspicious, and ordered CARIB PALM to sail to Boulogne-sur-Mer. Dogs search didn’t detect anything suspicious, but continuing search found hiding place with 2.3 ton of 75%-pure cocaine in it. Back then, it was a record drug bust for French law enforcement. Sailors said they were ordered by Captain to load cocaine, when the ship stopped off the of Venezuela coast on Nov 16. They were recruited by a fictitious crewing agency, registered in Marshall Islands and bearing a fake name.

Sailors were also sentenced to pay surrealistic fine of 75 mil euro. Who’s going to pay it, and how? Convicts are sailors, not CEOs. They’d hardly fall in for drug trafficking, be they rich enough to collect 75 mil euro among them. Ruined lives and careers aren’t enough, French justice wants to destroy their families also?

The ship remained at French port, until finally, she was dry-docked in Brest, this year, for dismantling.

It is understood,, that it was an operation, and French law enforcement agencies knew about cocaine shipment. No news on crew.

Kiev’s Pechersky District Court arrested the property and corporate rights of the Kuznitsa na Rybalskom shipyard, one of the main enterprises of the former president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, lawyer Andrey Portnov, the former deputy head of the Presidential Administration under Viktor Yanukovych, announced on his Telegram channel.

“The seizure of assets took place in the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated by my application on the legalization and laundering of criminal proceeds and tax evasion. The main defendants in the case are Poroshenko and Tigipko,” Portnov wrote.

Since 2014, the plant has been actively fulfilling military government orders. In 2017, the border service received four armored personnel carriers from the enterprise for 60 million hryvnias ($ 2,4 million), for which it was planned to buy 12 combat vehicles. After this incident, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau became interested in the enterprise.

In the fall of 2018, Kuznitsa na Rybalskom was sold to businessman Sergey Tigipko for $ 300,01 million. Prior to this, the enterprise belonged to Poroshenko's investment funds (73.9% share) and Igor Kononenko, the People’s Deputy from the Petro Poroshenko’s Block Party (20.1 %). According to Bihus.Info, before the sale of the shipyard, its owners siphoned off more than 60 thousand square meters of real estate.

In 2019, Petro Poroshenko was accused of trying to usurp the judiciary, high treason, money laundering, abuse of power, money laundering to offshore jurisdictions, tax evasion, as well as a forgery on the formation in 2016 of a coalition of parliamentary factions and the illegal appointment of the government. Six criminal cases have been filed following Portnov’s allegations.

Sep 21, 2019 - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko on Saturday (Sept 21) denied suggestions that US President Donald Trump had put pressure on Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy during a phone call in July.

In an interview with media outlet Hromadske, Prystaiko said Ukraine was an independent state and would not take sides in US politics even if “in theory” the country was in a position to do so. He added that Kiev appreciated the assistance it received from Washington.

On Friday, reports by US media outlets said Trump repeatedly pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate Joe Biden, one of Trump’s chief political rivals, in a July phone call.

The call featured in a classified whistleblower complaint that has sparked a political battle between Democrats warning of a national security threat and Republicans turning it into an attack on Biden, a frontrunner in the field of Democrats seeking to challenge Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

Reuters has not confirmed details of the whistleblower’s complaint. But a source familiar with the matter said it alleged “multiple acts” by Trump, not just a phone call with a foreign leader. The source requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Zelenskiy’s office has so far declined to comment on the allegations.

“I know what the conversation was about and I think there was no pressure,” Prystaiko said. “This conversation was long, friendly, and it touched on many questions, sometimes requiring serious answers.”

Trump dismissed the Sept 12 complaint from the whistleblower within the intelligence community as a partisan hit against him.

Trump had spoken to Zelenskiy less than three weeks before the complaint was filed. Trump is due to meet Zelenskiy during a United Nations gathering in New York.

Prystaiko said Zelenskiy had the right to keep conversations with other leaders confidential. “I want to say that we are an independent state, we have our secrets,” he was quoted as saying in the interview.

The July 25 call between the leaders is under investigation by three Democratic-led House committees, who want to know if Trump and his personal lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani, tried to pressure the Ukrainian government into aiding Trump’s re-election campaign.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Trump urged Zelenskiy about eight times during the call to work with Giuliani to investigate Biden and Biden’s son.

Trump defended himself Friday against the intelligence official’s complaint, angrily declaring it came from a “partisan whistleblower,” though he also said he didn’t know who had made it. The complaint was based on a series of events, one of which was a July 25 call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, according to a two people familiar with the matter. The people were not authorized to discuss the issue by name and were granted anonymity.

Trump, in that call, urged Zelenskiy to probe the activities of potential Democratic rival Biden’s son Hunter, who worked for a Ukrainian gas company, according to one of the people, who was briefed on the call. Trump did not raise the issue of US aid to Ukraine, indicating there was not an explicit quid pro quo, according to the person.

Ukraine wants to stay out of a domestic political battle in Washington and any attempt by either side to take advantage of Ukraine would damage relations, a top official in President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's administration told Reuters.

There was Kiev agrees to EU-backed roadmap aimed at pushing peace settlement for eastern Ukraine
There has also been a mention of US officials, democrats going to the Ukraine recently, while some think it is related to impeachment it may be for altogether different reason in line with John McCain style foreign policy efforts. McCain was a democrat, but he was very active during Obama Precidency, so why not democrats during the period of a republican president?
From the Maidan crowd supporters there was a retweet of
If Kiev agrees to resolve the conflict in Donbass, will there then be "impeachment attempts" of Zelensky, the new Ukraine president. If welded groups of people deny the possibility of finding a solution, they can keep the conflict in the Donbass going and going for still some time. This is not unlikely as neither the US nor the Israeli governments have yet achieved what they want in their struggle for power and control. One reason to keep the tension high in Ukraine is that it will allow pressure to be maintained against Russia along the whole western border, sanctions to be prolonged and continued etc.

08.10.2019 / 5-6 minute Read:
On October 6th, a protest took place in Kiev, against President Volodymyr Zelensky’s agreement with the Steinmeier formula.
Participants of the rally protested against the “capitulation”.
As per police estimates, about 10 thousand people took part in the rally. No violations of public order were recorded.
Participants in the protest are against holding elections in the region of Donbas and assigning a special status to these territories because it allegedly contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine. They demand that Russia “leaves” Crimea and Donbas unconditionally, while Ukrainian authorities should not be accepting any compromises.
The protest was dubbed “Steinmeier-Maidan” and protesters were urged to bring yellow tape and ribbons as a symbol of “surrender resistance.”
Its organizers declared a certain “Resistance of Surrender” movement, which included various radicals that participated in the conflict in eastern Ukraine on the side of the kiev regime.
Dmitry Yarosh, a founder of the well-known neo-Nazi organization Right Sector, also expressed support of the protest.
This coalition is coordinated by ex-deputies Dmitry Linko, Andrey Teteruk, Sergey Vysotsky and Andrey Levus.
“Ukraine is one step away from surrender in the war with Russia. Holding elections in Eastern Ukraine opens the door to the autonomy of the region, the legalization of terrorists as politicians and the “people’s militia” and, ultimately, the loss of Ukraine’s sovereignty. In order to systematically counter surrender, we announce the creation of resistance to surrender”, – the event page said prior to the protest.
According to the Strana.UA’s sources in the SBU and the Police, negotiations were held with many nationalists over the past few days, as a result of which some of them significantly reduced their activity.
On October 7th, the disengagement of troops was planned to take place Zolote and Petrovske in Luhansk region. It didn’t happen.
According to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko “Russian-backed militants” fired upon the cities and made it impossible to disengage.
“The disengagement was supposed to start today, indeed it was agreed upon in Minsk by our negotiation team. (…) Unfortunately, a few days ago Petrivske and Zolote came under fire. As you may remember our decision was that the disengagement starts on the seventh day after peace stands on a particular site and there are no attacks,” Prystaiko said.
He recalled that, by agreement, the withdrawal of troops begins on the seventh day after peace is maintained at a particular site and there is no shelling. This means that 7 days need to pass from October 7th during which “the militants must prove that they are serious and ready for further steps, such as disengagement.”
On October 1 the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk agreed to disengage forces outside Petrivske and Zolote. As the next step the date for the Normandy Four meeting should be set, the Kremlin stated. Because the disengagement failed, the next Normandy Four meeting is postponed.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said that the Armed Forces are technically ready to the disengagement of troops in Petrivske and Zolote.
The October 6th protest also requested to not withdraw troops from Petrivske and Zolote. The representatives of the volunteer battalions promise to take the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and continue the fight if the troops withdrew.
Moscow has not yet commented on Ukraine’s refusal to withdraw troops. The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said that in the agreed disengagement format there is no prerequisite for seven days of calm.
According to the DPR, on October 7th the parties were to notify the OSCE of the whereabouts of their positions in Petrovsky and Zolotoy.
“On our part, this obligation has already been fulfilled. But Kiev, instead of following the schedule, decided to fill the media space with completely destructive statements about the alleged shelling of pilot sites and the need to observe 7 days of calm,” the DPR said in a statement.
According to them, “Ukrainian diplomats, either intentionally or by oversight, overlooked the fact that a seven-day calm regime is not necessary to eliminate violations and restore disengagement in these areas. It is this approach that the OSCE also supports.”
The next possible date, if these 7 days need to be observed is October 14th, the Day of the Defender of Ukraine and the Armed Forces.
But if the protests continue and if the nationalists start being violent, it is likely that even more violations are recorded and the disengagement continues being postponed.

Izvestia: Russian companies in Iraq unscathed by protests

Russian oil companies in Iraq have nothing to fear, the protests in Baghdad and some cities in the south will not impact their operations, diplomatic sources told Izvestia.

"Russian companies continue to work as usual, no problems have arisen because of the protest movement," one source informed the paper. "Perhaps, this is due to the fact that a wave of protests took place in large cities, such as Baghdad, Nasiriyah and Basra, while Russia’s oil interests are concentrated mainly in the northern fields."

Another individual likewise assured that the protests had not affected the work of Russian firms. Gazpromneft confirmed this information to reporters, stressing that the company had been present in Iraq since 2010, and its work had not stopped for a single day.

During his meeting with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Iraq’s top diplomat Mohamed Ali Alhakim highlighted the prospects for eliminating visas for Russian businesspeople in order to boost the flow of investment into the country.

A wave of anti-government protests broke out on October 1, when Baghdad residents gathered for a rally demanding jobs and an end to corruption. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets against the demonstrators.

"The organizers of the protests posted calls on Facebook and Twitter, and people reacted immediately coming to Tahrir Square," a local reporter told Izvestia.

"Rumor has it that hired snipers shot at people on Tahrir [Square] and the Republican Bridge, so that someone could benefit from destabilizing the situation," he stressed.

According to the reporter, Shia clerics such as the leader of the Saairun party, Muqtada al-Sadr, are under suspicion. He supports the protesters verbally, but his ultimate goal is to oust the prime minister and his cabinet, the journalist believes.

Vedomosti: Russian authorities admit risk of falling demand for oil

A slowdown in the growth of global oil demand can eventually result in a drop in consumption, the Russian Energy Ministry admitted for the first time ever in its amended draft known as Russia’s Energy Strategy until 2035, Vedomosti writes citing the document, which the government has been working on since 2015.

According to one of the paper’s informed sources, this forecast is based on "various scenarios" for the development of the global oil industry.

"The accuracy of that forecast will largely depend on the pace of development of alternative energy and electrically propelled vehicles," the paper quotes BCS analyst Kirill Tachennikov as saying. "Even if the sales of electrically propelled vehicles double every year, their share in the global car fleet will remain less than 15% in 2030," he noted. In addition, there are industries that continue to grow rapidly without using alternative energy sources, specifically, aviation and high-sea shipping, he said, adding that supply likewise affected the price. "While the peak of demand is ahead, the peak of supply has probably past," he said.

"Competition between oil and natural gas in electricity generation will intensify, that will limit both the demand for coal and the demand for oil," Senior Director at Fitch Ratings Dmitry Marinchenko warned. The largest oil producers in the Middle East like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait, plan to increase LNG purchases and produce more natural gas to maximize oil exports, the expert stressed, adding that low LNG prices would accelerate that transition.

"From the viewpoint of the full cycle of costs, Russian oil projects look very good, taking a back seat only to the Middle East due to longer transportation. Operating costs and capital expenditure per 1 barrel of overall production do not exceed $15-20," Marinchenko pointed out.

Nezavisimaya Gazeta: US seeks to control transit of Russian gas to Europe

The domestic political feud in the United States has been shedding light on many secrets related to Ukraine’s gas sector, Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes. The Associated Press reported on Sunday that several businessmen supporting the Republican Party sought to "install new management at the top of Ukraine’s massive state gas company." They also planned to "then steer lucrative contracts to companies controlled by Trump allies," the report said citing some sources.

The Americans keep talking about the dangers of Russian gas for Europe, at the same time promoting their own LNG. US Energy Secretary Rick Perry earlier said that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline would strengthen Russia’s influence on Europe’s foreign policy.

You are getting warmer. Pelosi is diverting NATO weapons through Ukraine for resource grabs all over Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. This isn’t just Kompromat.

I would imagine, if the statement above has any truth, might be the main reason Pelosi and Schiff just used up "flyer miles" to go sight-seeing in Jordan? If true, both are crossing the delicate line on the (U.S.) Logan Act and in a real functioning Democratic Republic, would be arrested for Treason, as soon as they stepped back on American soil. There was a situation where the Ukraine President Zelensky didn't fare much better than a new teacher in school controlled by unruly kids. His intentions are alright, but there are other forces and these soldiers are surely not the only or even the worst.
In case the Tweet goes down, it says:

Then chief of police 'overrules' #Zelensky. Death Threats, etc. They say will bring more weapons & fighters."

The yearly vote on the Russian resolution yields the yearly confirmation that little has changed. Below is the picture followed by the article:

ANTI-NAZISM RESOLUTION PASSES IN UNGA, DESPITE US AND UKRAINE OPPOSITION

On November 7th, the third committee of the UN General Assembly on social and humanitarian issues adopted by majority vote the Russian draft resolution on the fight against the glorification of Nazism.

There were only two countries that voted against – the United States and Ukraine, and the resolution still passed.

The resolution is titled “Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobiea and related intolerance”.

121 states voted in support, 55 abstained and 2 were against.

The resolution recommends that countries take appropriate specific measures, “including in the legislative field and in the field of education, in accordance with their international human rights obligations, in order to prevent the review of the outcome of World War II and the denial of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed During the Second World War.”
The authors of the document strongly condemn the incidents related to the heroization and propaganda of Nazism, and urge states to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination by all appropriate means, including, if circumstances so require, legislatively.

As Rinat Alyautdinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights, told reporters, one of the delegations that voted against the Russian resolution stated during consultations in the preparation of this document that “no one should ever be blamed for cooperation with Nazism.”

“In my opinion, there is nothing more to comment on,” he said.
Answering a clarifying question whether this was the Ukrainian delegation, the diplomat said: “It’s easy to guess.”
At the initiative of Russia and a number of states, including OSCE participants, the UN General Assembly annually adopts a resolution against the glorification of Nazism. Moreover, traditionally only Kiev and Washington oppose this document.

It is more than likely that the US opposes the resolution mostly due to the fact that over the past years, it has openly backed Nazi and neo-Naiz organizations in Eastern Europe, including the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Why Ukraine opposes such a document is clear to see. Its Prime Minister attends concerts of Neo-Nazis and holds speeches telling them how appreciated they are.

It is acknowledged even by its “true ally” the US as the Nazi hub of the world. The Ukrainian government also wouldn’t want Nazis and “volunteer battalion” members, who are predominantly Nazis to protest in Kiev because their representatives at the UN supported a resolution against their core ideology.

Don't want to go off-topic here but I found the following info interesting. After reading the latest Kolomoisky's interview with New York Times (which is pretty interesting in terms of him being suddenly very bold towards the US side) I came across this:

Zelensky speaks on land sale market opening
...
According to the draft law, by January 1, 2024 citizens of Ukraine and Ukrainian legal entities, as well as foreign citizens or companies, who have been using Ukrainian lands for at least 3 years (for example, renting it), will be able to acquire ownership rights of agricultural land.
...

Ukraine will perhaps be sold out and obviously it won't be bought by ordinary Ukrainians. Various foreign entities have likely been expecting and planning for this move:

Saudi Arabia's SALIC buys Ukrainian farming company Mriya (happened in 2018)
The Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) has acquired a large Ukrainian farming company Mriya Agro Holding, thus signing the largest contract in the agricultural sector in the history of Ukraine's independence.
...
"This contract does not involve the purchase of Ukrainian land. It involves the purchase of Ukrainian assets, raising the level of investment in the Ukrainian agricultural sector and raising the level of technologies that are now coming to Ukraine," Poroshenko said.

The head of state added that these foreign investment would promote the increase of crop yield, export, receipt of foreign exchange earnings in Ukraine, and the creation of new high-paying jobs."

War&corruption-torn country is always a tasty pie for powerful players and I would expect Western, Israeli or even Chinese or Russian companies trying to move in but I am a little curious why money from SA. Climate change / planetary upheaval plans? Migration? War? I really don't know. Just thought to share it. In the end maybe it is nothing else than big money looking for a big profit.
