Thanks, everyone. The ones I really feel for are his children, he has three school age children (his youngest is best friends with my youngest), and to see them and his wife having to deal with this is the hardest thing. It was cancer so it was expected but he was not yet 50 so that is hard. The death of a parent has such bad effects on kids who are not yet adults, makes them more prone to depression later in life. It is so much easier to deal with a parent's death after you are grown up. I can't imagine losing a parent at age 9, for example.

And he passed away on the day of my father's birthday, the first one since my father passed away last fall.
