Crazy Storm Weather and Lightning - Global

"We have never seen such a STRONG hurricane this EARLY in the season" is the common comment on social networks about Hurricane Beryl.

Beryl is the strongest Caribbean hurricane ever recorded this early in the season and its making landfall at peak intensity.

Hurricane Hunters are reporting "extreme turbulence and frequent lightning" in the eye-wall of Beryl, a surefire sign of strengthening. Beryl could make a run on CAT 5.

Not normal. Well, not 'old normal' anyway.

Scientist finds intense lightning activity around a hurricane's eye

Phys.Org June 24, 2006

However, according to Dr. Richard Blakeslee of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Ala., "Generally there's not a lot of lightning in the hurricane eye-wall region. So when people detect a lot of lightning in a hurricane, they perk up -- they say, okay, something's happening."

Interesting! I did a quick search and this is what I found regarding lightning in the eyewall of a hurricane.
Dated 2018

Lightning in the eyewall of a hurricane.

Other than Michael, hurricanes like Emily, Rita, and Katrina all had extensive lightning. All of these storms were also extremely powerful, violent systems. Furthermore, lightning can also be seen when hurricanes are undergoing an “eyewall replacement cycle,” which results in the strengthening of a storm.
Could there be a connection between lightning and hurricane intensity? The question still remains unanswered, but just goes to show that there is still a lot to learn about hurricanes in the science of meteorology!

Crazy Storm Weather... and crazy people.

At the end of May and without warning, the statue of Poseidon made a surprise appearance on the Malecon in Progreso Yucatan. The 3-meter figure surprised tourists and residents alike, as there was no official information about its installation.

With the imminent arrival of hurricane Beryl to Cancun, Quintana Roo, social networks and residents of Progreso, blamed the statue of Poseidon for having angered Chaac, the Mayan god of water and rain, thus causing the next calamity that would mean the arrival of hurricane Beryl that has gained strength in recent minutes and will surely impact the Mexican peninsula as category 3.

The situation escalated with the creation of a Facebook event proposing to destroy the statue of Poseidon. Scheduled for July 15, this event generated controversy and quickly escalated in popularity, reaching thousands of people.

The memes of the Poseidon vs. Chaac battle are already being shown in social networks.
