Earthquake in Chile 8.3

A few minutes ago another strong earthquake happened in Chile, and the latest news said that was 8.3 degrees Richter. The truth this was very strong, but another peculiarity is that was so long too. After this movement, came about four very powerful movement, and people are really scared. Right now trembling slightly again. The tsunami warning has been declared for the entire country.

True, it lasted for a long time. Even the replicas were unusually strong. According to the news, it has been felt as far as the Buenos Aires region in Argentina (and apparently even in Brasil?).

According to the latest news, from the chilean SNAM website, the tsunami amplitudes already registered are:

Wow! That was a pretty strong quake. Glad you are okay down there mkrnhr. Is that 4.2 meters?! I do hope that is a typo on their part. :scared:

Yes, it was really impressive and strong (at least in this area, the central zone of the country, Santiago), and although it was a little less powerful than the 2010 earthquake (at least in this zone) the duration was very, very disturbing and strange, and I had never experienced it before (and in that, they all agreed), and above all, the aftershocks that followed were really very powerful and in just a matter of minutes !, each aftershock was the equivalent of an earthquake that in another country happen every so many years, but in this case, in minutes !. I just spoke with a friend who live in Buenos Aires and she tells me that she felt strong there. mkrnhr, you're in the fourth region (in the zone of the epicenter of the earthquake), isn't it?

Seems that the 4.5m amplitude is the wave far from the coast.

Carl, just the people who live along the coast were evacuated (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTLxKVgvrUs). And another thing that has attracted much attention, besides the long time of the earthquake, is the large of territory that it covered, in this video look at the movement of water from the pool in Buenos Aires Argentina! Also the video describes the scare of people who live in tall buildings in the capital of Argentina with this.


Until now go over 50 aftershocks.
