Seismic swarm in the Gulf of California, Mexico.

According to information from the National Seismological Service (SSN), there have been at least 11 earthquakes greater than magnitude 4 in the Gulf of California, Mexico in less than 24 hours

The tremors were located south of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora; as well as San Felipe, Baja California and Baja California Sur.

The last earthquake occurred at 8:48 p.m. with a magnitude of 4.1 and with an epicenter 158 kilometers south of Puerto Peñasco, Sonora: its focal depth was 13 kilometers.

BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 jolted 15 km SSW of Pyrgos, Greece at 05:08:10 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 70.62 km, was initially determined to be at 34.8666 degrees north latitude and 25.1168 degrees east longitude.

Reports of an M7.3 in Timor Leste, both from USGS and EMSC:

We got woken up at 4am this morning by this in Northern Australia. At first I thought that my dog was rattling the bed with her scratching so I told her off but the rattling kept going for a bit longer and then it dawned on me what it was.
We get little tremors every now and then from earthquakes in Indonesia but this one was pretty big for us and seemed to go for a long time.
Considering we are more than 500 nautical miles (900km) from the quake it must have been a pretty big one. I did lay awake and wonder if 'this was it' but then decided I was pretty happy where I was and fell back asleep

Thank you for the video, michaelrc! I thought it was very interesting information about earthquakes and why earthquakes in the East are much more devastating than in the West of the USA. I liked the natural history bit as well as the world history part of it. I don't know whether it was symbolic or not, but I thought it was interesting that there were scores of earthquakes with a big one just (only a few years) after the old colonies (Spain and France) had left the area.

Also, learning more about liquefaction was really good and if I remember it correctly this is the same reason why these earthquakes in the north of the Netherlands create quite a bit of damage, even if the tremors are quite small and not very deep.
