6.3 Magnitude Quake Second to Strike Lombok, Indonesia - Reports

A powerful earthquake rocked the Indonesian island of Lombok on Sunday; the nation is still reeling from the 6.9 magnitude quake that claimed over 430 lives on August 5.

According to the US Geological Survey, the latest quake's epicenter was detected at a depth of 7.9 km (4 miles) near the town of Sembalun Lawang, in an area of recently-hit Lombok island. However, there is currently no information on damage or casualties yet.

The USGS said that the new tremor was registered at 04:10 GMT at a relatively shallow depth and was strongly felt by local residents in East Lombok.

The island of more than three million people, located immediately to the east of Bali, was pummeled two weeks ago by a devastating earthquake that claimed over 430 lives and damaged thousands of homes.

On Sunday, a number of states of the Ring of Fire suffered from earthquakes including Colombia, Fiji, Japan and Russia.

August 22, 2018 - 'Big One' talk swirls as 69 massive earthquakes hit the Pacific's Ring of Fire in 48 hours (Video)
'Big One' talk swirls as 69 massive earthquakes hit the Pacific's Ring of Fire in 48 hours

A large swath of earthquakes hit the Pacific's so-called Ring of Fire earlier this week, prompting some to wonder if it is a precursor to the oft-discussed massive earthquake, colloquially known as "the Big One."

Sixty-nine earthquakes, including 16 tremors registering 4.5 or above on the Richter scale, recently hit the area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), which recorded the events but did not issue a warning.

Several of the quakes registered significant impacts, including one that hit 5.0 and shook the area on Tuesday morning. Fiji appeared to be the most impacted, as five tremors above a 4.5 magnitude hit the small island.

Luckily, the earthquakes did not reach the western coast of the U.S., which partially sits on the Cascadia subduction zone, a fault that stretches from mid-Vancouver Island to Northern California. The recent tremors have sparked concern that "the Big One" could be near, according to The Daily Mail, but the USGS has made no mention of this.

Of the 69 earthquakes, 53 hit the area on Sunday, followed by the 16 subsequent tremors, impacting Indonesia, Bolivia, Japan and the aforementioned Fiji.

"The Big One"

"The Big One" is often described as an earthquake with a magnitude 8 or above, causing massive destruction to California, which some have said is overdue for an earthquake of this magnitude. California sits on the San Andreas fault, a 750-mile fault that has been responsible for some of the state's most devastating earthquakes.

The last earthquake that came close to a 8.0 magnitude in California was the great earthquake of 1906, which hit a magnitude of 7.9 and shook San Francisco to the ground, destroying 80 percent of the city and resulted in 3,000 deaths.

A massive earthquake registering 8.2 was registered on Sunday, hitting 174 miles north-northeast of Ndoi Island, Fiji, according to the the USGS. Luckily, the massive quake did not cause any significant damage, hitting at a depth of 347.7 miles, too deep to cause a tsunami.

“We are monitoring the situation and some places felt it, but it was a very deep earthquake,” Director Apete Soro told Reuters in an interview.

The Ring of Fire

The Ring of Fire is a 25,000 mile horseshoe-shaped ring, accounting for approximately 90 percent of the world's earthquakes, according to the USGS.

The region also contains 452 volcanoes, more than 75 percent of the world's active and dormant volcanoes.

Though the USGS did not issue a warning, the recent spat of earthquakes in the Ring of Fire could eventually cause some problems for the western part of the U.S. and other close regions. (Article continues.)

I have been considering the causes of earthquakes, and it seems to me that "The Wave" has arrived, or at least 'a wave'.
If you consider the motion of the entities in a lavalamp, the spherical bodies seem to pulsate first in a north-south motion and then in the East-West orientation, much like a jellyfish swimming.
I imagine our planet and other planets to be undergoing a similar type of motion in their orbits about the sun, as they are perturbed by other entities in the cosmos.
Now if you look at the latest sequence of earthquakes there was a large 8.2 in the Fiji area, and this has resulted in a whole bunch of the let's say 'harmonics' of this in the same area, which appear to have an equidistant spacing, depthwise.

The force coming up from under the aesthenosphere then transferred horizontally outwards from this area, and produced many earthquakes around the Pacific rim of similar magnitude, mainly in the 6.0 range.
The youtube channel produced by Dutchsinse describes them in much detail.

Dutchsinse compares the [Fiji Quakes] to 'standing waves' such as might be seen in a pond which is disturbed by an incoming repetitive force, building up a resonance which then can move larger objects.

What worries me is that force coming up from this area usually produces earthquakes which are at least one magnitude larger than the original quake, which means that a 9.2 might be in the offing somewhere on the Pacific Rim. These have occurred at Chile and at Japan in the past. Who knows where it might surface this time, but be alert over the next couple of weeks.
Have a plan.

Death Toll in Indonesia Earthquakes Climbs to 555 - Reports

The number of people killed in powerful earthquakes on Indonesia's Lombok island has increased to 555, media reported on August 24, citing Indonesia's national disaster management agency.

The earthquakes left around 1,500 people injured, the Channel News Asia broadcaster said, adding that hundreds of thousands were left homeless due to the disaster.

On Monday, the agency's spokesman said that the death toll amounted to 506 people.

On Sunday, Lombok was hit by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake. The quake's epicenter was located at the depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

On Sunday, Lombok was hit by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake. The quake's epicenter was located at the depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

Earlier in August, the island was struck by a 7.0-magnitude quake, reportedly claiming the lives of 436 people.

According to the country's Tourism Minister Arif Yahya, Lombok may lose around 100,000 tourists in 2018 over the earthquakes. He said that Bali had lost around 1 million tourists over six months following the Mount Agung eruption in November 2017.

"I project that the loss of tourists in Lombok will follow the same pattern as in Bali, with a ratio of one to six. Lombok will start recovering in early September, while the recovery process will take six months," Yahya said, as quoted by the Jakarta Post newspaper.

The minister claims that while Bali receives around 6 million tourists every year, around 1 million tourists come to Lombok annually.
