Apologies to any patriots in the US, but this article just drives home the fact that the US really is the evil empire. Reading the books of Prouty and William Blum etc, it is just staggering how much evil has been spread around the world by agents of the US government and those acting in its name.

U.S. leads world in foreign weapons sales: report

WASHINGTON - The United States accounted for more than two-thirds of foreign weapons sales in 2008, a year in which global sales were at a three-year low, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Citing a congressional study released on Friday, the Times said the United States was involved in 68.4 percent of the global sales of arms.

U.S. weapons sales jumped nearly 50 percent in 2008 despite the global economic recession to $37.8 billion from $25.4 billion the year before.

The jump defied worldwide trends as global arms sales fell 7.6 percent to $55.2 billion in 2008, the report said. Global weapons agreements were at their lowest level since 2005.

Italy, the second ranked country, amassed only $3.7 billion in arms sales, while Russia ranked third with sales falling to $3.5 billion in 2008, down from $10.8 billion in 2007.

The report attributed the increase in U.S. sales to "major new orders from clients in the Near East and in Asia" as well as to continued contracts for equipment and support services with globally based U.S. clients, the Times said.

The United States also led in arms sales to the developing world, signing 70.1 percent of these weapons agreements at a value of $29.6 billion in 2008, the report said. [...]

Of course, the British come in a close second, followed by the rest of the "G8" more or less.

Do you have seen the movie "Lord of War" with Nicolas Cage ?

He play the role of a big weapons dealer who his chase by Interpol.
At the end he is caught. He's prisoner, sitting on a chair in a big dark room. The Interpol man enter and say him "This is the end for you, you're going to jail".
Then he reply :
"You know what will happen ? Someone will stroke at the door, will congratulate you and say 'Your mission is over now, thanks.' and, I will be release."
Then, we can heard someone knocking at the door, talking to the Interpol man and, in the next scene, giving Cage a briefcase with money.

Cage say to the spectator, "States need me. How would "kind" states sell weapons to other states with a bad reputation if I will not be here ?". Then the off voice enumerate which country sell more weapons:
1) USA
2) Russia
3) Germany
4) France

The character played by Cage is a composite of real persons.
