Eye problems

Hi all,

Just wanted to post my progress with my eyes. Well I haven't gone to the doctors lately because I dont have health insurance (just to expensive). But I have been working on my diet and my lifestyle. I have eliminated two of the major evil food types from my diet, which are gluten and dairy(I just recently started back up on the no dairy diet). I start taking bilberry extract to help improve my eyes recently. Bilberries or more specifically Vaccinium myrtillus is a edible fruit that grows in low shrubs, mostly in Northern Europe. The anthocyanins pigment in the fruit is the key compound that has the host of positive effects. Some of the effects are improved blood flow to the eyes and reversal of eye damages.

Since taking the bilberry extract I have noticed my vision improve slightly and my cloudy vision has also decreased a little. I am also taking other supplements to improve my health, such as Vitamin C,D,E, 5HTP, magnesium citrate, fish oil, and zinc citrate.

I recently came up with a hypothesis that, this static vision that many people are suffering from and no one really has any idea whats really causing it. Could be a symptom from the coming wave. If anything else develops Ill let ya know :)

Here is a link that has some good information on bilberry, http://www.stevenfoster.com/education/monograph/bilberry.html.

I've had the snow and FLOATERS. Of the two, the snow is less annoying. Floaters can drive you absolutely crazy. Also, the fogging of the vision. Just a whole lot of changes in the eyes since I was 44. That seemed to be the year of rapid decline from perfect vision to needing glasses.

You might want to check out N-acetyl carnosine eye drops. I've got some and use them occasionally and they seem to help. Also, we have mixed up a 25% solution of DMSO with sterile saline and use it in the eyes and ears. Helps a lot!

Don't know about the 'snow' but I was just wondering about 'floaters', since I had it and still have from when I was 10 (and didn't know how to name it :)

Well, I had one rather big floater which was very fastidious that was the consequence of hitting my left eye on the head of another child while playing along the school's doorway. The oculist at the time told me it was an actual scar on the retina and gave me some pills that in a matter of months reduced this much elongated floater to a very narrow filament, not really fastidious but still noticeable that faded away in years.

Then it was only after my 30's that I've started to notice more or less heavier floaters around, sometimes really fastidious as very often I react to them with surprise... you think you've seen a fly or a mosquito or an unknown object thrown at you when in fact it's only one of those dark spot on the periphery of your visual field moving faster as you turn your eye quickly, right or left.

Thanks for listing remedies for that!

I read only a little on this, but haven't tried it, so have no direct knowledge of it's usefullness. Might be worth a look though.

Yes any eye problem seems really scary and annoying :/. I will certainly check out what you have suggested, thank you for the help. If you dont mind can I ask, do you still suffer from the snow vision?

Seems to ease eye infections but doesn't seem to correlate to floaters/snow 'sindrome', called myodesopsia. The problem are proteins formed in the vitreous humor (the thick fluid or gel that fills the eye). From what I've read briefly if those proteic agglomerates are found near the eye crystal you have floaters; if near the retina you have the snow effect or something like that.

There's a useful insight on wiki about floaters:

Vitreous syneresis

The most common cause of floaters is shrinkage of the vitreous humour: this gel-like substance consists of 99% water and 1% solid elements. The solid portion consists of a network of collagen and hyaluronic acid, with the latter retaining water molecules. Depolymerization of this network makes the hyaluronic acid release its trapped water, thereby liquefying the gel. The collagen breaks down into fibrils, which ultimately are the floaters that plague the patient. Floaters caused in this way tend to be few in number and of a linear form.

And this, leading to calcium accumulation as a problem with the collagen/floaters:

Other common causes

Patients with retinal tears may experience floaters if red blood cells are released from leaky blood vessels, and those with a posterior uveitis or vitritis, as in toxoplasmosis, may experience multiple floaters and decreased vision due to the accumulation of white blood cells in the vitreous humour.

Other causes for floaters include cystoid macular edema and asteroid hyalosis. The latter is an anomaly of the vitreous humour, whereby calcium clumps attach themselves to the collagen network. The bodies that are formed in this way move slightly with eye movement, but then return to their fixed position.

Hmm... magnesium anyone? And what about this hyaluronic acid?

Hi all

Just wanted to post an update about my eye situation. Well I started using DMSO about a month ago and at first things were going well. Towards the middle to the end my eyes started getting irritated, like itching and burning. So I decided to stop using the DMSO about a week and half ago. The DMSO did have some positive effects for ex: floaters, blurriness, redness, and after images have decreased to a noticeable effect. So I don't know wheather I was herxing with the DMSO or if I am reacting to something else, but I thought it was best if I stopped. Right now I am using some simple dry eye relief tears and that has been helping my eye irritation.

Also I went to get a eye exam for my glasses and contacts about two days ago and I told the doc about my eyes problems, and we decided to dilate my eyes for a better check up. After the check up she told me that I have two retinal/macular holes in each eye. She told me to go see an Ophthalmologist and that the problem can get worse. From what I have read, these holes can cause retinal tears and can lead to more problems. There is not much information about the causes of it and I'm still trying to learn more about it, so the first thing I'm going to do is go see a Ophthalmologist and try to get a more clearer view of the problem.

Ill keep ya updated.

I hope your eyes will get better Shinjitsu. The DMSO probably helped because DMSO is effective for macular degeneration and retinal disease. This effectiveness was first discovered when patients with retinitis pigmentosa, a retinal disease, were taking DMSO for certain musculoskeleteal disorders. They sensed that their vision had improved and some had remarkable results.

A 25% dilution is better for the eyes. But yeah, if you feel uncomfortable with it, then it's best to take a break.

Hi Shinjitsu, Don't delay in seeing an opthalmologist. Retinal holes can lead to tears, which can lead to retinal detachments with loss of vision. If the holes are small, these can often just be monitered, as the body will lay down pigment around the hole and seal it. Sometimes, the holes have to be sealed off with laser. The laser repair does kill off some retinal tissue, but prevents retinal detachment. In the peripheral retina, one doesn't notice these small defects in the visual field. In the macula (our central visual area) the defects may be more noticable, however, the brain does a good job of "filling in the gaps".

If you have any sudden onset of floaters, especially if associated with flashes of light, do not hesitate to see an opthalmologist immediately. These are symptoms of retinal detachment. Particularly, large floaters or floaters that appear as a curtain or veil are worrisome. Although it could also be small floaters, but a lot of them. I recently had a patient with a retinal detachment, but her only symptom was a large change in her perscription/blurry vision in just one eye. So just be aware of any vision changes. There are always exceptions to the rules.

If I may ask, what is your glasses perscription? People who are highly nearsighted are more prone to holes and tears because the eye is too long, and the retina is stretched thin. Previous head trauma can also cause holes and tears as well.

See an opthalmolgist ASAP!! I wish you luck and sending a big hug. Lilou~

Just to let you know, please go see about those holes ASAP.
I had a period of floaters and snow a few years ago. When I had my vision check up it was exactly what you have-several retinal holes. I was told I was close to having a retina detatchment and within a day it was repaired with laser surgery. It was also recommended that I take regular supplements for eye health like bilberrry extract, astrazanthin, lutein, lycopene, DHA, fish oil and vitamin C.

So please see about this ASAP.

Good luck
Brainwave.

Hi guys,

I know that I should see an Ophthalmologist ASAP, but my insurance benefits start on the 15th! I applied for health insurance about a month ago, and the fools finally approved it! So I'm not sure what to do right now, I think I might just go in for another check up, to see how bad the problem is and go from there.

Hi Lilou,

My glasses prescription is

Right: Sphere: -6.25, Cylinder: -0.25, Axis: 150
Left: Sphere: -5.00, Cylinder: -0.25, Axis: 180

I have pretty bad eyesight and am very nearsighted.

Hi brainwave,

Yes I take bilberry extract and vit c. Coincidentally my mom has been buying a lot blueberries, so Ive been eating alot of those too.

Thanks for the responses, I wasn't to sure about the problem these holes pose, and now know its a biggie so I will go see an Ophthalmologist as soon as possible! Also will observe my eyes closely.

Yes, Shinjitsu, you're pretty nearsighted! I would say you can probably wait until the 15th to see an opthalmologist. You've likely had the holes for quite some time & the doctor who did the dilation apparently didn't see a need for an emergency consult? Just don't do any heavy lifting or a lot of bending over. No physical workouts or weight lifting or any lifting over a couple of pounds. While we were in school, we all got a laugh out of the importance of "keeping the patient erect". Just take it easy & stay alert for anything different about your vision (flashes, floaters or rapid changes in vision).

But call & get the appointment - for the 15th if possible. If the doctor that did the dilation did not set up a consultation, it may take time to get seen by a specialist. Be sure to tell them you were seen by Dr. So & So, and you have macular holes in both eyes. That'll get you the appointment ASAP. You could also call the doctor you saw & ask for a referral. But don't delay, do it first thing Monday morning.

Keep us posted. :hug2:

ditto. If you call tomorrow for an appointment, they are likely to have availability around 15th anyway. Just do not overstrain your eyes or your body in the meantime. Keeping you in my thoughts,

Hi guys,

So yesterday I did go see a Ophthalmologist, he was also a retina specialist. He told me that I have Lattice Degeneration. But that the Lattice Degeneration is not a big issue, at least not in my case I think. He also said that the retinal holes are small and do not pose much risk, but he said that we will monitor your eyes just in cause if something develops.

Though I do have a wary feeling about him, he did not listen much to what I had to say and I feel like he rushed things a bit to much, so I will go see another Ophthalmologist just to double make sure everything is OK.

Re: Eye problems, floaters, snow & fireworks

Hello Gee, I hope you are doing well. Has paleo diet helped with eye annoyances?
Are your floaters like wiki photo or more like Lilous link? _http://www.eyeonvision.org/floaters.html

I had similar symptoms and more, as a child. Also all doctors would look at me like I was crazy too. Most of the symptoms came back or have always been there? Its just that now I'm more aware of my surroundings. Here they are in no particular order.

Floaters
_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floater
Relaxed unfocused eyesight, opening eyes after meditation EE1pipe
Transparent more than wiki photo. Like 6 embossed worms and some with wings.
Drew picture when I was in high school of them
[br/]

Sparkly lines (not dots) & white fireworks
_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_field_entoptic_phenomenon
Run in circles around an object and/or fireworks everywhere. Sparkly white with bright yellow outline.
everywhere in sand & trees not just in sky.
relaxed focused eyesight. EE with sunlight.
[br/]

snow & closed-eye noise
_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_eye_hallucinations
Twilight, when dark and when I close my eyes. Like LED (red, green, blue, white, black) tv noise.
Some meditation circles used levels to recreate new place in their heads. (distraction like lucid dreaming)
[br/]

transparent swirling tunnel right above my head
deeper phase of relaxation? needs more research
[br/]

refreshing of vision (like a computer screen when you video tape it with camera)
After full EE Program & during my first accidental Reiki session. I freaked out for a moment and explained it to nice hindi lady. She said I should find master to give it to me lol. Probably because I subconsciously remembered reading about it in Wave or Amazing Grace. needs more research
[br/]

only person talking exists
perfect high resolution, you can count the hairs on their head
everything else is grey and disappears from view
all extra noises stop they don't exist. needs more research.
Has anyone else experienced these? maybe should post in EE thread but that 325 thread kind of scares me.

Also I asked all my friends when I was in high school and they thought I was crazy too. Asked Sant Mat people and they thought I was special in a good way  Some already saw the same things and most wanted to see what I was seeing. Felt extra special because of them lol now research to see that most are illusions that maybe I should ignore? I don't know the jury is still out on these... Trying to focus on 30g carb paleo diet (20g goal) and EE exercises.

I'm grateful for this forum and hope-ing to soon give more research or something more substantial. Thank you.
