finally started on detox diet

She is not ready to die and I won’t let her. There is no way in hell she is going to miss all that excitement that we will experience in a few years; she will be riding the wave with me whether she likes it or not.

Hi Mona,

I can feel how difficult it is for you and your mom. While recovering from a brain cancer I noticed how important the patient's motivation is. There's no substitute for it. However I also noticed that true support, true love, true understanding from relatives and friends is very important and can definitely boost the patient's hope and motivation.

She has been doing everything the same including the far infrared sauna (6 times a week), and she also eliminated gluten completely from her diet. The only think she is doing differently is the gluten part, she just eliminated it completely. What I think is ruining her health, because at some point her blood test was indicating that she was getting better, is the ingestion of fluoridated water. What I noticed is that at the time when she was getting better, while doing the detox, she was drinking bottled water which was treated through reverse osmosis, so the water did not contain any fluoride at all. Then I told her that the bottled water was even worse so she switched to tap water which she only filtrated through a regular filter that does not get rid of fluoride. She is unable to have the reverse osmosis filter installed at her place because she is renting an apartment at a senior’s complex and she is not allowed to drill any holes under or above the sink.

No doubt that fluoride water doesn't help. I was renting my previous place so I couldn't damage the sink either. However I installed a RO system. It was under the sink, the faucet pipe was going between the cupboard door and the rest of the sink base, and the I left the U shape faucet (closed of course) hanging on the side of the sink.

She started taking 400mg of Goldenseal root; I remember in one of Laura’s books that CC’s recommended taking this herb for the elimination of Fluoride. For now she is drinking bottled water, I know it is also poisonous, but she is doing the far infrared sauna so her body will get rid of the plastic chemicals that way. For some reason the far infrared sauna does not get rid of fluoride. Also I was wondering if she should also start taking DMSA, but I am not sure if it also helps eliminate fluoride; I am aware DMSA is good for a heavy metal detox. I read on the internet that Borax is also good for fluoride elimination, but for some reason borax sounds to me a little too toxic, and I don’t want to poison my mom even more. I read that one eighth of a teaspoon in 1L of water should be consumed per day.

I don't have enough expertise for such a particular case but I noticed that when you face some serious health problems, the body is definitely weaker so you have to go for less aggressive and more customized detox approach.

For example, I tried DMSA once and I was not strong enough to handle it: impossible to sleep, headache, crazy mood swing, itchiness...

Good luck to you and your mom.

Yeah, some people are not even strong enough to take DMSO on consecutive days.

The other important thing is to cut other evil elements in the diet, for instance dairy products. Has she done the elimination diet (ultra simple diet)? Having enough fatty acids, vitamin C, selenium, enzymes, etc.

Have you ever researched this site?: http://www.cancertutor.com/

You can't do all the homework for your mother, she has to have an active role as well. There is so much you can do, but she has to do her part as well. It will help her if she reads Bernie Siegel's book "Love, Medicine, and Miracles" in this regard. It is quite an impressive reading and it approaches emotions and many of the psychological subjects discussed in this forum in a very understandable, compassionate way.

Psyche and Balibaste, thank you for your advice. Yes, the fluoride is definitely not doing my mom any good, I will have to look at the RO system, I am not actually familiar with it, the only reverse osmosis filter that I came across was the one that required drilling. I will look into it again. I am actually even considering taking my mom with me to Kelowna where the drinking water is not fluoridated. I will think about it. Balibaste, as for DMSA, I think that her body would not handle it well. Her digestive system is quite weak as everytime she eats something that is a little more greasy she has to go to the bathroom immediately.

Psyche, you are right, my mom should be more active. The website that you mentioned I put in my favorites so I am going to make her read it. I kind of feel guilty because I do mean well and when I tell her that she should try something and when it does not work I feel that I have failed somehow. I did get her a book by Bernie Siegel, but the title of it is "Peace, love and health". I will get her the other one.

thank you again, I will keep you updated on how she is doing.

hey Mona,

Sorry to hear the news. One way to look at the situation is that you and your mother have found that her body has a strong ability to heal and she can get better. While it sounds like you did a decent amount of preparation in reading and researching, the experimentation phase of going through detox can take a longer time - so even if your mother got some immediate positive results, there may have been a little bit of luck there. So don't be too hard on yourself. Another thing to consider is that as Psyche said, your mother needs to have and active role in her health - and it does seem like you're taking a lot of the responsibility in making her do things. I've found that a lot of the personal work involved in just physical detox is very valuable and you don't want to take too much away from her. I can understand that she is not in an optimal state and I do think that help and assistance is great, but it may be good to consider her ability to take on some of these things. If she reads the Ultra Simple Diet, it should help guide her through the experimentation of detox. She may also want to consider cutting out lectins (rice, nuts and beans) and some don't react to buckwheat (I don't do well with either). Quinoa is a good grain replacement if she goes this route.

As far as the water situation goes, there are also stand alone systems that can get rid of floride and other gunk. Here's a website, check out the ones made with stainless steel (the Big Berkey System):

http://www.directive21.com/big-berkey.html

Another option could be to get a water distiller.

Also, are you both doing Éiriú Eolas? It detoxes on all levels and would probably help stabilize some of the rough feelings you both may be feeling from disappointment.

Best wishes to you and your mom.

Hi Mona, very sorry to hear about your mother. I don't have that much to add, but reading your latest post made me think of the old saying 'healing starts from the gut'. I have come to realize that for me the most important aspect of my detoxing is taking care of the 'dumping system'. My system needs at least one coffee enema per week to function properly. I also take extra vitamin C and magnesium if I feel that toxins aren't getting out.

You're probably already familiar with all this but I thought I would mention it. Hope your mother finds ways to heal her gut, I think it could be quite important. Good luck and strength to both of you!

This sounds like IBS. This is VERY difficult to deal with because some of the dietary needs of the IBS sufferer are very specific. If this is the case, according to our experiences, your mother may need to eat a lot more vegetables, less meat (stick with chicken and turkey grilled), use white rice instead of brown rice, no other grains or beans of any kind. Best to start each meal with a dish of apple sauce - home made and unsweetened - and then move to a bit of rice or rice pasta, then the vegetables, and finally, the meat with no fat. You can serve a steamed veggie combo on the rice for variety.

There are specific supplements that can be taken to calm and heal the intestines which are generally quite raw and inflamed. L-Glutamine, GABA can be taken to heal the digestive tract. Absolutely no dairy, no grains, just a bit of ghee on the veggies for taste. Getting sleep on a natural cycle is important as disturbed sleep is closely linked to the IBS. 5-htp with lunch and dinner to help with that. Important to take omega 3 oil capsules AFTER eating.

I've had good results taking DGL tablets before meals when IBS is flared up. Its the unsweetened kind, and tastes icky, but I can't argue with the results, which was an immediate lessening of pain. Coupled with L-glutamine its helped me a lot, so has eating small amounts of white rice with sweet potato. Normally if I'm going to eat lamb, I double up on digestive enzymes and also take Glucomannan, a fiber that is not grain based.

Like Laura said, take omega three oil after eating. If you take it alone it can also bring on the diarrhea.

She may sleep a lot at first when changing her diet around. I still sleep at least 10 to 16 hrs when not feeling great. When things are good, 9 hours is fine. This used to really bother me, because I spent most of my life sleeping 4-6 a night! That sounds crazy to me now. :D

Thank you sooooo much for all your advice. I had no idea that beans and rice would actually make IBS worse. My mom has eliminated gluten from her diet completely but is still consuming other gluten free flours. Also, she does eat a lot of beans because she grew up on it in Eastern Europe. I will tell her that needs to go. I did tell her that brown rice is healthier than white so she is buying only the brown rice. Oops, I have to tell her that I made a mistake. I sometimes feel like she is my guine pig.

Thanks Laura, I will look into those supplements for her, L-glutamine, Gaba and 5 htp. She has never ever taken those. I suspected that she had irritable bowel syndrome, but I did not take it that seriously. I used to be constantly constipated, until I gave up gluten completely, and used to wish I had her problem instead . I hope that the apple juice, because of its acidity, won't make her have diarrhea if she eats it before meals. But it wont kill her to try it. She needs to get her gut healthy.

Aragon, those coffee enemas sound brutal. I read about it in 'Detxify or Die' by Dr. Rogers and felt a little sick just thinking about it. But my butt has been more sensitive than in most people as I used to suffer from constipation and hemorrhoids. Just last year this doctor just cut off a few of the hemorrhoids that protruded from my butt and that was a brutal experience I will never forget. Just thinking of anything coming close to my butt makes me extremely nervous. :scared:I will explain to my mom how much it will benefit her, I just have to find a way to give her the news in a more gentle way.

Gimpy you are right. My mom actually just recently gave up on omega 3 because it gave her diarrhea when she took it on its own. I will inform her that she should take it with each meal.

Shane, thanks for the website address to Big Berkey System. I checked it out but it seems that their system does not get rid of fluoride. They do no thave a reverse osmosis system that is the only one that gets rid of fluoride in the water. Unless I missed it. I have to go back and read more about what their product is capable of doing. Sometimes I just read too fast, it drives me crazy. ANd oh yes, the nuts. My mother is not going to like me the next time I visit her. She loves her beans soup, nuts and any type rice. I think she will be glad to see me go to Kelowna for good. But I do mean well. :)

Thanks to all of you :flowers:

Hello all, just popping in to say I have been on the Ultra Simple diet with supplements for a week now and cruising. Lighter, stronger, clearer - why did I wait so long before I committed myself - the idea of all those pills(supplements) gave me the hebe jeebes I guess. Soon I'll begin to start checking out the detox diet and find my balance in that. I gotta read more of this thread before I post further but. :cool2:

Let me add the super importance of enzymes. There's an enteric coated one called "MegaZyme" that covers all the bases. We not only take them with meals, but between meals.

I just received some enzymes that I ordered online. It was from Enzymatic Therapy and called Mega-Zyme. However, I didn't catch that it contains soy lecithin. :( This product seems like the best enzyme support too with others not containing as much active ingredients. Is this the brand y'all use or is there another one with no evil substances?

I was looking to order some enzymes and this one looks good to me too. Unfortunately it also contains magnesium stearate as well. Would it be safe to say that the benefits of this supplement are so great that the small amount of m.s. is negligible? I looked around for another brand and found this one:

_http://www.cantron.com/html/nutraceuticals/megazyme.html

it doesn't contain any of the evil stuff. I'm thinking to try that one but if everyone who is using MegaZyme has no issues then maybe I should order Megazyme? I understand we should avoid these ingredients if we can so not sure how detrimental it would be as I would prefer to use one that people are familiar with.

I hear ya...the good news is that once I started taking all the supplements, I didn't get nearly as hungry as I usually get. I think your stomach gets full of pills there's no room for food ;D

This sounds like IBS.

Tormentil complex is a herbal tincture suggested for use in cases of IBS, which you may like to look into. I had gastric flu (or something like it) ten years ago, and I found tormentil compex to be gentle and very effective. I tried the usual things you can get in the pharmacy, but tormentil was the only thing that stopped the diarrhoea.

Product Description:
Bioforce A.Vogel Tormentil Complex, Potentilla tormentilla grows widely throughout Europe and was known by the herbalist Culpepper who mentioned its uses in his writings. In this remedy, the fresh seeds of young oats, a very popular herb with Alfred Vogel, are combined with the roots of Tormentil to create a gentle complex. The Tormentil herb is a member of the Rose family. It can be found all over Europe, growing wild in woods, moors and grassy pieces of ground. It is a small plant with yellow flowers. The root is thick and red on the inside, giving rise to its common name Bloodroot.

HOW IT WORKS:
Tormentil has a high tannin content which gives it a distinct astringent action on the digestive tract. Tannins bind to the proteins present in the irritated lining of the bowel, forming a layer which soothes and, at the same time, provides a barrier against infective organisms and toxins. They also slow down the frequency of bowel motions, encouraging the healing of an inflamed bowel.

INGREDIENTS FOR USE OF Bioforce A.Vogel Tormentil Complex:
Contains the tinctures of: fresh Potentilla (Tormentil) root 75%
• Fresh Avena sativa (Organically grown) (Oats) aerial parts 25%.
• Alcohol content: 60% v/v.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE OF Bioforce A.Vogel Tormentil Complex:
• Adults: 20-30 drops 2 to 3 times daily, in a little water.
• Children (2-12 years): 1 drop per year of age, 2 to 3 times daily, in a little water.
This product is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

ADDITIONAL ADVICE:
Medical advice should be sought if acute symptoms do not improve within 24 to 36 hours, or if diarrhoea is violent and accompanied by severe pain, vomiting, fever or blood loss.

USES FOR Bioforce A.Vogel Tormentil Complex:
• Diarrhoea
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Tormentil complex? I never heard of that. Thanks Endymion for suggesting it, I will look into it. My mom is now following Laura's suggestion. I told her to make her own apple sauce, but she bought it at a store instead. It's organic which is a good thing. The suprising thing is that she does not have stomach ache after eating it on an empty stomach. She was actually afraid that she would. I thought that as well. So far she is doing OK, she will get another blood test in a few months.

thanks for all your help
