finally started on detox diet

My 2 cents would be taking a lot of probiotics and enzymes before taking any supplement... well, if it doesn't work just throw those pills in the litter :P

Problems with nausea of these kind are probably stomach related. You may check your stomach acidity with deglycyrrhizinated licorice for starters - Smart City's 'DGL 500' -, keep going with healthy food, and, why not.. more breathing exercises always did a good job for my stomach too.

Thanks for researching that nienna.

i have had 0 sugar today. none, nada, zero.

i'm surprised at myself.

It's so annoying that companies don't want to tell us what is in their products, it should be totally transparent.

EDIT: I picked up a new supplement today. I was thinking about the quality of my sleep lately and i found a "night rest" supplement with melatonin, GABA, and a few other ingredients. I have been researching about

GABA and melatonin, and it seems like it might be just the thing for me. Being a night owl does sort of mess with your body's patterns.

Check out this article called Sugar:The Sweet Thief of Life.

Thanks for the link. Reading the article has been humbling and making me ashamed of what I have done to my body.

The following quote says a lot about modern medicine as we experience it:
The medical approach is always the same: if an imbalance cannot be corrected by a new drug, any natural remedy, like sensible eating, is called “unscientific.”

Oh, yes. Yes, indeed. I had no idea kids got asthma from dairy and sugar. Why isn't this common knowledge??!! (rhetorical of course)

I also would like to report that the melatonin+GABA was exactly what I needed for sleep. I got nearly eleven hours with no interruptions! I feel fabulous and energetic today.

About two months ago, I never envisioned myself taking supplements, now i have 5 that i use everyday! It's well worth the money you shell out.

If I'm not mistaken, I think PureVia is owned by Pepsi Co., which makes me not trust it a bit. There are plenty of brands of stevia you can find in health food stores that don't have anything on their ingredients lists except for stevia. I think these would be better choices.
Some nutritionists suggest only using the dehydrated ground stevia (the green powder) simply because it is a whole food. Stevia extracts like the liquid and white powder should still be considered refined foods (although I don't know if they would actually be harmful, this might just be splitting hairs).
That being said, I found the green powder to have an odd aftertaste and it wouldn't dissolve into liquids, making it difficult to use. It ended up sitting on my shelf for a few months until I finally ended up throwing it out. I don't use stevia much at all, but when I do I tend to go for the liquid. A few drops is all you need in most instances.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I have some of the green powder, and it does have that aftertaste and just floats in liquids. I've been using stevia liquid instead. The green powder can be thought of more as an herb that you sprinkle on food.

Yeah, well IMO, you can't trust nobody for nothin' anymore when it comes to products and services. (except our EE program of course)

I just wanted to say that all this research i am doing for health and diet is very exciting, intruiging and fun!!

I am learning soooooooooo much now and i cannot fathom the possibility of comprehending the vast oceans of information there is to deal with...but i'm darn sure going to try! :P

So, we started the detox on October the 20th. My mother did the FIR sauna 7 times a week for 45 to 60 minutes (minus a few days out of the whole two months when she had a little enjoyment of alcohol). I did the sauna 5 to 6 days a week for 30 to 45 minutes (I have to use the sauna at my mom's place, I don't have my own, besides I do not have any major illnesses so far, she is the one in need of it). The detox coctail included the following: 300mg of Magnesium citrate, 200 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid, 1000mg of C Vitamin, 400 IU of Vit E, and 125 mg of Glutathione (with some real red beet juice). I wish she could take higher dosages of Glutathione and Alpha Lipoic Acit, but as I said it is very expensive. But anyway, let me continue. I also took the same coctail right after we finished the sauna. Then in the morning we took a multivitamin with all kinds of minerals, 300 mg of Calcium, Vit B complex, 1000 UI Vit D3, Lutein and 300 mg of Magnesium Citrate. I also tried to exercise 15-20 minutes on a stepper right before doing the sauna, this helped me sweat a little better. I should mention that we did not sweat a lot in the sauna, maybe if the temperature was higher (we used the highest setting) like in the more expensive saunas we would have sweat more. One day I will buy the better quality sauna.

Here are the results from my mother's blood test which was taken April 28, 2009:
WBC (white blood cell count) was 30.5 (normal is between 4.0 and 11.0)
Lymphocytes was 23.2 (normal range is between 0.5 and 3.3)
Monocytes was 2.1 ((normal range is between 0.0 and 1.0)

You have to remember that her blood test results were getting worse everytime she had it done. We actually expected the WBC to be higher than 30.5

Her next blood test was done on Dec. 23, 2009, two months later after starting the detox/FIR:
WBC is 14.9 (normal range is between 4.0 and 11.00)
Lympocytes is 7.4 (normal range is 0.5 to 3.3)
Monocytes is still 2.0 (normal is 0.0 and 1.0)

Wow, I could not believe my eyes when I saw by how much the WBC count went down, even the doctor (this is the family physician not the blood specialist) could not believe it. This is truly exciting news. Although the monocytes counts is still quite high, so my mother will definitely have to continue doing this detox program (she is also excited) and after 2 months she is going to get another blood test. I got her 500 mg of NAC yesterday, so I will also get her started on that as well. I will definitely keep you posted about the next results that she will get next in February.

Hello everyone,

SO, here comes the really bad bad news. My mom has just had the blood test done today and the results are pretty bad. I have no idea what the hell happened.
Platelet count: 149 (normal is 150-400)
WBC or white blood cell count: 26.1 (normal between 4-11)
Lymphocytes: 14.6 (normal is 0.5-3.3)
Monocyte: 2.4 (normal is 0.0-1.0)
Basophil: 0.5 (normal is 0.0-0.2)

So, as you can see she is where she started before the detoxification with the far infrared sauna that has been combined with the amino acids, vitamins and minerals as I described last time. She has been doing this detox program for 4 months now. She did a few changes though, she added 500mg of NAC. So, I don’t know what to say. I would like to know where I screwed up, maybe I was too excited about her getting better and that excitement cancelled out the good results. Or, maybe it just does not work for her anymore. I should add that she has also started taking 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in a lot of water that she drinks during the day, for candida. She has been doing that for over a month. Maybe that has something to do with the last blood test result.
I don’t know what else to say, except that I feel as if I just hit a wall and am numb all over. I am not sure what else to say or do.

Hi Mona,

I'm sorry to hear about this, but don't be discouraged. Even though the doses of the detox cocktail can be increased or modified, I was actually wondering how her diet looked like? Did she do an elimination diet to make sure she's not having foods that her immune system can't tolerate or can't process well due to her illness?

FWIW, here is an elimination diet, the Ultra Simple diet: http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=13241.0

It is also important to go through the emotional aspects of diseases. If your mother is open to it, I think that "Love, Medicine, and Miracles" by Bernie Siegel is a good start. We read it when one of our forum members, Belibaste, was diagnosed with brain cancer and found it very touching. Bernie Siegel had an ease to make a connection through the book with its readers, telling all kinds of truths in a straight forward way but at the same time, in a gentle way.

Hi Psyche,
My mom has eliminated a lot of foods in her diet, I also made her switch to buckwheat flour, she mostly makes the pancakes with it instead of the bread as the bread always comes out quite heavy. When I make the bread it also comes out quite heavy even though I mix the flour with tapioca flour and brown rice flour. But you know what, I think that it is the apple cider vinegar that does not work well in her body. I think she could be allergic to it; she did complain that she would often get diarrhea. She also eliminated milk and drinks rice milk instead, though she still eats eggs.

She stopped taking the vinegar and will get another test done within the next two months. If her blood test impoves then vinegar will possibly be the evil culprit. I will update everyone on the outcome. It will be good to know if vinegar does interfere with the detox program in people with an immune disorder. I am also going to get that book Ultra Simple Diet. It will be nice to have everything written neatly in a book instead of having all these notes of mine lying around.

Thanks for your advice Psyche.

I immediately thought that the vinegar was the culprit. She may also want to test for eggs. As ya'll know, it was a huge blow to me to find out how badly eggs affect me. But, since there was something introduced, the vinegar, it's most likely to be that. We read somewhere that vinegar actually increases candida.

Yes, I was also under the same impression although I can't remember where I have read it.

It is in several of the recommended books, especially those that deal with candida, as vinegar is a fermented process. The fermentation products increase candida.
