I am sorry but i have to come back on this issue.
The village of Zacharo had indeed the tough fate of having suffered all this damage...
But there is a story of another village called Kefalas, which i read and i want to share with you for it's symbolic meaning.
This village is placed right in the center of the hell that happened, yet today there are still trees and singing birds. Why?
The village Kefalas had suffered again some years ago from a less fearsome fire.
Back then, the goverment response also left people angry and upset.
So they decided to invest in water pumps and water tanks that could be fitted on their agricultural tractors.
When this summer's fires were closing to hit their area, the people of the village had a quick meeting.
They decided to stand up and fight, NOT to evacuate their homes, and NOT to wait for the state's action.
They had 30 "fire-fighting" tractors, and because of them and their knowledge the area they managed to save their lives.

And when a villager of Kefalas was interviewed he said:
"We were not going to leave the protection of our lives and our village to few unorganized and underpaid firemen wearing shirts and jokeys. We knew what to expect of them and we knew we needed to take action ourselves. On the Peloponnese peninsula there are thousands of private tractors. If all of them had done what we did, the results would have been different.
And we will not be fooled by the 3000 euro "aid" from the goverment. Most of it is going to pay delayed car instalments and mortages. Not for rebuilding what was destroyed. We need real help and infrastructures to rebuild our lives."

So among the millions of burned acres of land, the dozens of burned villages and the 67 dead,
a village and it's people, took responsibility for themselves and their lives and walked through fire literally!
I think it is a meaningfull real life story. Thank you all for reading.
