Fireball tally from American Meteor Society

Thanks for posting this, c.a. I was wondering about a possible connection of the Baltimore house explosion and overhead activity. Although I've since read they're reporting several folk informed police of a gas smell prior to the explosion.

Right off Eastern Ave at around 10:40am I smelled smoke and ran outside. Some of the maintenance crew (Obed, Geobany, and Hernesto) were on location and did a great job getting that man out safely. Big ups to Moco's Bravest too, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue. I promise to be more careful the next time I spit hot fire!

I lost a sister in a house fire (actually before I was born). It's horrendous.
You show a fire in 2 locations-right? The building in the back was started on 3rd floor and building in front was coming from 1st floor - ?

Nine O Levin1 day ago
That is very sad. I'm sorry for your loss. Its all the same building. It started on the first floor in the front and shot up the stairwell like a chimney. What we see in the back is the top of that chimney. I went in afterwards...complete bbq. Everything charcoal

Weeks after a strange light sped across the sky across the western United States, residents in San Diego, California, reported a similar sight Monday night.

Mysterious Fireball Over San Diego Sky Defies Explanation (VIDEO)

Late last month, people across three states reported seeing a green-tinged fireball streak across the night sky. While many experts claimed it was a meteor, US Strategic Command later confirmed that the event was actually a Chinese CZ-7 rocket breaking apart as it reentered Earth’s atmosphere.

On Monday night, another fireball was seen in the sky above San Diego, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Speaking to local NBC, city resident Ruben Quintana described what he saw as a stream of light that "began as a single blur [and] then expanded into a straight line" before vanishing.

Another witness described it as a "strange aircraft with lights on bottom."

The sighting comes on the heels of this month’s Perseid meteor shower.

"The Perseids show up every year in August when Earth ventures through trails of debris left behind by an ancient comet," reads a statement released by NASA earlier this month. "This year, Earth may be in for a closer encounter than usual with the comet trails that result in meteor shower, setting the stage for a spectacular display."

But according to Steve Flanders of the Palomar Observatory, the lights filmed by witnesses do not fit the profile of a Perseid meteor.

"A meteor will move across the sky far more quickly than in this case," he told NBC, adding that it appeared to be consistent with a military rocket launch.

"The tail looks like the flames that escape from a rocket engine during ascent."

According to a local tv station, the US Navy’s USS Makin Island amphibious assault ship was training in the area at the time of the sightings, but a Navy spokesman denied that any “live fire” exercises were carried out.

The 2016 Perseid meteor shower performed well on the night of August 11/12. The sky on that memorable evening was recorded from a perch overlooking Yosemite Valley, planet Earth, in this scene composed of 25 separate images selected from an all-night set of sequential exposures. Each image contains a single meteor and was placed in alignment using the background stars. The digital manipulation accounts for the Earth's rotation throughout the night and allows the explosion of colorful trails to be viewed in perspective toward the shower's radiant in the constellation Perseus. The fading alpenglow gently lights the west face of El Capitan just after sunset. Just before sunrise, a faint band zodiacal light, or the false dawn, shines upward from the east, left of Half Dome at the valley's far horizon. Car lights illuminate the valley road. Of course, the image is filled with other celestial sights from that Perseid night, including the Milky Way and the Pleiades star cluster.

This Fireball looking thing flew by Fishers, IN as I was fishing near dark in my pond I spotted this object. I assumed it was a hot air ballon with the fire or a weather balloon...then I thought it was a glider with a jet engine....as it got right over me I realized it was just a straight Fireball of some kind. I take a couple still photos also. It flew at about 200mph give or take...judging off all the planeI see daily that normally land around 150mph....this was a little faster....it was heading down wind toward Chicago or Gary Indiana. I watched it fly out of site still burning. The fire/flame ball didn't have a huge tracer tail. It's flame was inconsistent....I was baffled from it!

The same things have appeared over Ohio, Michigan, and St. Louis this month. Do you mind if I use this clip in one of my videos covering this matter? Thanks!

Just seen this exact thing over Ohio, Columbus. It was wobbling back and forth as it flew. Never changed brightness, speed, or anything.

Another mysterious bright light streaked across the Southern California sky on Thursday evening, for at least the third time this year.

Larger, Brighter, Closer’: More Mystery Lights Up Sky Over San Diego
http://sputniknews.com/us/20160819/1044446056/mystery-lights-above-san-diego.html

The bright streak was reported by nearly 50 witnesses to the American Meteor Society (AMS) as blue or green, and was captured on dashcam video and posted to social media.

Witnesses posted descriptions of what they saw on the AMS website, with many users writing that it resembled a fireball or comet.

“I have seen meteor showers but have never seen anything like this. It appeared much larger and brighter and closer,” Amy T, from Encinitas wrote.

The National Weather Service stated on Friday morning that they are unsure of what it was.

On Monday, another strange and unexplained light flew through the sky over San Diego.

In April, there was another stunning giant green fireball that streaked above San Diego.

A massive fireball, visible along the east coast of the United States and Canada, appeared to be so close that many people panicked, believing they had just witnessed a plane crash.

Plane Crash? Huge Fireball Sets Sky Above North America’s East Coast Ablaze (Video)
https://sputniknews.com/us/20161005/1046038631/massive-fireball-north-america.html

The fireball was visible in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and parts of Canada at around 10:40 PM EST Tuesday night. The unusual celestial event was so big and bright that people frantically called police and local news outlets with fears that a plane had crashed.

According to NASA, however, the bright light zooming across the night sky was most likely a meteor from the Orionid Meteor shower.

Stargazers will be able to enjoy the sporadic shower until November 14th.

While the Orionids are typically not as noticeable as the Perseids or Geminids, they have been known to occasionally produce up to 20 meteors in an hour. The Orionids become visible each year in October, as the Earth, orbiting around the Sun, passes through debris created by Halley's Comet. Halley's Comet itself is only visible from Earth every 75 years, and the next viewing will be in 2061.

A massive fireball was caught on camera blazing through the sky over the coast of northern Japan on Monday morning.

The stunning video was captured by a Nippon TV affiliate’s weather camera, and is believed to be a very bright meteor — which is typically referred to as a fireball.

Couldn't wait to share with you guys the latest numbers from AMS. It is not only Rocking and Rolling on the ground, but also in the skies. Still 16 days to go for this year though. Looks like this year (2016) will be the alltime record, in all departments:

Thanks P, great job and awesome results :jawdrop: ... really a very shaking rock and roll :scared: ... In ten years the confirmed fireballs grew almost 9 times and teh sightings 26 times. Can we use these graphs on SOTT or will be an ultimate version soon?

Sure, you can use it. I'm updating it in the beginning of next year, so that we have the final results for 2016.

Thanks for sharing Pashalis! The bounce off the 2015 "low" is very telling.

Would be great to have an article up on SOTT when the full 2016 figures are out.

2016 is finished now and here is the current count. Note: I've must have made a mistake above; the "All Reports about Sighting" I probably have taken from "all countries" instead from the "US alone ". The counts below should be correct now (still a record year in all departments...):
