Great moments of dance

Thousand Hand Guan Yin was a dance created by Chinese choreographer Zhang Jigang. This dance was performed by 63 deaf dancers of China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe. Because they could not hear the music, there were 6 directors in white cloths helping them synchronizing with the music. This dance described the legend that Bodhisattva Guan Yin has one thousand hands. Bodhisattva is a Proto-Buddha. She can not become a Buddha because she is still attached to this world. Her vow: If there is still a single drop of tear in this world, I will not become a Buddha.

Gotta love hoofers, where would the stage be without 'em?

And God bless choreographers! :)

In the movie "Hellzapoppin" (1941) there is the best scene of swing dance I ever saw in my life:

Love swing dancing. I play guitar in a swing/jazz orchestra. I also loved a lot of the dance scenes in the movie Swing Kids (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTSum6AbLc0).

And now, for something completely different.

I was particularly moved by a series of videos posted by Matt Harding. He initially would travel the globe, filming himself doing a rather goofy dance in front of famous landmarks and would edit the shots together with music and post on his website as a form of postcard. The videos went viral. This started before YouTube. Now that he's on YouTube, his videos have become quite the sensation.

However, on one of his trips to Africa, a bunch of kids joined in and he realized how much more interesting it would be to have people join him in his dancing. Since he would constantly get emails from people wondering when he would eventually come to their town, it wasn't hard for him and his wife to organize participation in many of the places he visited in his last couple of videos.

Overall, I find seeing so many people from all over the world dancing together quite moving. The music he commissioned is quite nice as well.

Here's his latest:

Haven't seen Swing Kids in years but the dance scenes were really fun! Harding's video (I've only seen one so far) was great as well. I agree that it was very moving (no pun intended) to see so many people dancing and enjoying being together instead of the usual fighting and upset we see on the news. Thanks. :)
