Greenland - a geopolitical space on the global chess board?

Can I check something - does the US president have the constitutional power to add a new state to the US?
No, the president needs the congress for that. Also, Greenland would most likely be a territory like Puerto Rico, not a state.

I had a similar thought recently, why now? Why the US is meddling with the internal politics in Venezuela, why are they looking at Greenland as the future 51st US state? Is it for geopolitical reasons only, due to the inevitable uprising of a multipolar world?
It seems to be mostly that, as well as probably Trump's ego. In some ways it is better that the US accepts the multipolar world and focuses on being mostly a regional power in the Americas. Though it may not be that great of a deal for Latin America, depending on how the US will manage its sphere of influence.

Flashback 2021: 'How Denmark became the NSA's listening post in Europe'

Denmark served as an outpost for NSA agents spying on German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other politicians across the Rhine, as well as French, Norwegian and Swedish personalities between 2012 and 2014, if not longer. [...]

If the NSA appears to be able to use Denmark as a base for spying on Europe with impunity, it is thanks to a long tradition of collaboration between the two countries' intelligence services. "Denmark has become a sort of de facto and unofficial member of the 'Five Eyes' club..." [...]

Denmark has been engaged in a policy of military support for Washington that almost makes the United Kingdom look like a second-class ally. "We fought alongside the Americans in Libya, Syria, and Afghanistan. You could say that we are a warring country, and that has been the case for almost 30 years," [...]

What does Denmark get in return?

Washington values its northern European ally all the more because of its strategic location in the North Sea not far from the Arctic Ocean, which is likely to become even more important in the years to come.

Maybe the elites have already decided Greenland needs to be given to the US and Denmark is OK with that, and what we are seeing is just theatre for the masses? 🤷

I think so. Denmark needs to allocate significant financial resources to this sparsely populated and vast geographical area, and this amount will have to increase considerably in the short term. Europe is increasingly having to use its financial resources more efficiently, and considering the outcome, I think Denmark will sell this region at a good price.

Hard to say if the following is actually part of the real motivation for wanting to "buy" Greenland - as opposed to it being an intended distraction, for more geopolitical control, or the other reasons mentioned here - but its an interesting angle on it nonetheless:

_Greenland ‘Freedom City’? Rich donors push Trump for a tech hub up north
This got me thinking, but in a different direction.
It is well known that the surface layers of ice are a great ‘trap’ for radioactivity.

In case a nuclear confrontation is being prepared, perhaps it would be better to build shelters deep within the ice (more than 1 km in Greenland) for the elite, protected by a large ice cushion?.
Perhaps ice is more efficient for this (and easier to drill/melt) than bedrock.
