Physicians and scientists have known about the placebo effect for well over 50 years. Studies have shown that placebos -- dummy or sugar pills-- are just as effective as medication with active ingredients. Yet the mainstream study of placebos as a first line treatment gets little attention. Today on the Health and Wellness Show we'll talk about the placebo effect and take it a step further. Do humans have an inner pharmacy that can be tapped into at will? What if you can become your own placebo and experience healing through the power of your mind alone? Can you change your genetic expression through thoughts? And if this is possible, how does it work?

Thanks to the H&W team for another enlightening show! It's quite amazing to hear about all these instances where our mind breaks the conventional notions about how the body functions, and you did a great job at highlighting the almost complete lack of understanding of the placebo effect in the medical field. While it's true that studies on psychoneuroimmunology are becoming more prevalent and accepted within the establishment, I think we're still very far from truly understanding the underlying causes unless researches start looking into the power of belief and mental conditioning in relation to information theory.

Trying to apply this concept of "mind over matter" to my personal experience, I begin to wonder if on some occasions I started exhibiting certain symptoms because, having researched about certain conditions and external factors that personally affected me, I was expecting them to materialise, which in turn conditioned my mind to express that thought by physically exhibiting those symptoms? Hope it makes sense.
